Growing up in the South I'm very critical of people who imitate the Blues that originated in Black Churches and cotton fields. The love generated by these performances is what the music is about. This old catfisherman got chills from their rendition of Summer Time.
I too am from the South the Black folks spirituals have a very unique flavor as do the blues. But was wondering what part of the South you are from? I knew a Randy Stone back in my younger years.
@@carriesing actually what's called the Blues has broken out all over the world where people are being oppressed. I imagine the Israelites sang the Blues during their 400 years of slavery in Egypt. You're right though creativity can't be fenced in or owned by just one group of people.
Janice Joplin, Grace Slick, Sandy Denny, Dusty Springfield are just some of the flavors that can be heard in Mandy's vocal styling. I think she's amazing !
She reminds me also of my late wife, Lisa Kindred. Same sort of raw boned stature and heartfelt vocals. (You can find her on You Tube.) In fact, sometime in 1970, if memory serves, Janis was asked during an interview on KSAN FM ["The" FM Music station in San Francisco at the time], "Who do you consider to be your local competition?" She replied with my wife's name. No, they really didn't sound anything alike, but that didn't seem to stop people, fans, some players and pundits alike, from making the comparison. They knew each other and really didn't have a rivalry.
@@mandiegraham4571, When I watched that video and saw and heard you come up and sit in, I immediately thought of my late wife, Lisa Kindred. While you two could never be accused of "Sounding Like Janis" (nor each other) by another musician, you three all have and/or had the same approach and feeling for music. Give her a watch and listen and you'll see and hear what I mean. (Yes, Lisa was told the Janis thing a lot too.) Just "Keep on Keepin' On". Her last album is called Thoughts Of California, a song written by Wm. Moses "Billy" Roberts, who wrote Hey Joe - yes, That "Hey Joe". Hi Brendon! We are from Australia 🇦🇺 and walked through the station on our way to travel on the Eurostar a couple of weeks ago. We were thrilled to see the piano but so sorry to miss you playing. It would have made our holiday. ….. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺❤️
Hi from eastern France!Dr.K, I have been watching you for almost a year now, and I have to say the quality of your playing just gets better! LOVE the blues! Bon Courage!
Sitka is a beautiful place, well it was when I was there in the 1990s. I worked for FAA in Anchorage and had to travel to a lot of places for my job, communications specialist. I bought some Rie Munez art there, as well as some Ray Troll stuff. I still have it. Also some scrimshaw by Ellen Paneok, artist and pilot. Look her up. RIP Ellen.
Loved Mandie's performance, she is so talented. I'm from Australia and really enjoy watching you Brendan. We were in the station November last year and were very disappointed that you weren't there that day, hoping we might see you in April, next year when we're visiting the UK again.
Brendan! You're back! The last I knew, you were having legal problems and you couldn't play at the station any more and I thought that was the sad end of you! Imagine my absolute delight seeing you here today!!! Long may you play! Hello from Florida!
@@mandiegraham4571 tried to follow you. I requested it. Really think your singing is fabulous. I am from the US and can’t come in person. How can we hear you?
What a remarkable person you are so entertaining but kind as well. Your attitude and music gives so much joy and happiness to many sometimes I can see at great risk to self. My pleasure to view from Australia please take care but don't stop please 🙏❤️👋👋

Brendan, that was AWESOME! And Baby Girl, @mandiegraham4571 you were Amazingly Awesome as well! I could have sworn you were DEEP SOUTH from your singing voice. Woooo! Hair rose up ALL over my body continuously!

I guess that's why Led Zepp played Whole Lotta Love after When The Levee Breaks when I saw them
George Gershwin, a New Yorker, wrote the song Summertime, in New York City. This old New York cat fisherman gets the same chills!

There's no Sandy Denny, but there is some Ronnie Spector.
