In Germany everybody drives up to Denmark for this style of slope soaring but we build our wings way more durable. They're basically epp wings wrapped in tape so often they will never break and then covered in the neatest designs to do that combat stuff. Thermal slope soaring in the mountains is another very great thing you should check out, but these things are bigger.
It was so AWESOME to have Josh and Josh back together again. Great episode on Slope Soaring too. Very fun to watch you guys reactions to controlling your planes. Very enjoyable. Hope to see J & J together more.
Glad to see Josh and Josh back together! That's how I remember when I first got back into RC flying after a 30-year hiatus, and now have my grandkids into the fun. We would watch "Josh & Josh" and then run to the Dollar Tree to get foam. Thanks guys, and God bless!! Keep up the great work!
FT Versa is my favorite plane to fly! I have built over 10 Versas with 3 Blunt noses hanging on my wall. Thank you FliteTest for making the plans free and posting videos on how to build every plane on your site!!!
Great to see Josh and Josh again. I haven't sloped in about 17 years. one of the best experience I've ever had. so peaceful. started with a Zagi Thermal. had so much fun with it. might be time for a new one. thanks guys for the memories!
Finally some old school FliteTest. I enjoyed seeing you guys again, just having plain fun without that commercial crap... This one put a smile on my face. Thanks fellows.
One of my favorite FT videos of all time!!! There is something really special about seeing you guys out of the flat lands and experiencing something so different at such an incredible spot. I hope you are given the freedom and have the time to do more "on the road" episodes in the future!!!
You guys brought back a bunch of awesome memories from childhood. My Dad and I as well as my family flew Gliders and Sailplanes long time ago. We built and flew balsa and spruce kits to give you an idea. But really loved it. Keep dog fighting on the ridge bros. Thanks.
I lived in Long Beach Calif, and it was slope soaring that got me interested in RC. Back in about 1979, the favorite slope soaring machine (and the most acrobatic) was the simple foam airplane that you threw, and it would do a loop, and bop you in the back of the head, and typically break... lol they just cut out the spots for all the RC gear, and they were ready to go.... and boy they were fast.... Thankfully I left Calif in 1982, just after skydiving at 16 yrs old, moving to WI, and then spending 16 years in the Army.... now I'm back into RC again at 49 yrs old, so it's never to late to play LOL.
This takes me back to the 80's when I had many years of slope soaring with the Bromley Soaring Club in SE London UK. We used to fly off the South Downs. Inbuilt and flew many balsa & ply aircraft - both purchased designs and own designs. Foam wings were just coming in then but foam board was unheard of as were electric motors. Looking forward to getting the courage to go back into the hobby and built by first foam board plane. Until then I shall carry on with my Mavic Pro :).
Slope soaring is the coolest. Motor-less flight is my jam right now. Just got a gentle lady kit at a swap meet and cannot wait to build it and make a DIY high start to get it up for some thermal surfing.
Hey Josh, With your hand injury it would really be a great time for you to find (with your resources and contacts) to help and show the different helps for those of us who luv this hobby while having "permanent" disabilities (loss of fingers, hands, etc) and are struggling......We need you.... and your team! Really!! I am sure It would be greatly appreciated. or if not please at least point us to the sources available who can help us. Thanks in advance DannyW
Nice to see you two flying together, and slope soaring at that too! I had a riot when Peter brought out the at beast and was actually flying pretty well with it. Hope the hand gets better soon,so you can get back to loads more flying again!
since park flying at all the parks in my town is banned and prohibited, this is one of the few options of flying I have so i am super glad flite test caught on to this awesome style of flight
It was great to run into you guys at Habit Burger in Alameda. I'm looking forward to more west coast series videos. We don't have any Poison Ivy out here on the West coast, but we do have lots of Poison Oak! Sorry if you picked up a little in the bushes. It grows everywhere!
you guys should go to a slope combat event, TONS of fun when you get over 15 planes all trying to hit each other with the wind whipping all around. nothing like it :D i go to the Tri-cities Washington area for the main combat event in spring.
Great job guys! I actually learn to fly slope soaring then got into powered flight... slope soaring was super great to really get to know a plane... by the time I got to powered flight I had very good flying skills. By the way... I got into flying wings thanks to flite test! Keep up the good work ;-)
JOSH AND JOSH: BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN! WOOHOO! What a fantastic video! I loved watching you guys slope soaring! Its so peaceful and its one of those RC experiences that has to be shared. Watching that giant ole cargo plane slope soaring was a hoot! Its great that you shared it with us! Thank you! I really want to get my ohana (Family in Hawaiian) into slope soaring, but I have a lot of ohana that are scared of heights! lol Someday maybe. Anyways, thank you again for posting this fantastic vid, guys!
Great to see 2xJosh but I found you guys only this year so still going through old material and Josh was never gone for me! I'd love to see more slope soaring. You won't need an awesome slope like that, even a sand dune would do. Perhaps a dedicated small soarer might be a future challenge? I sloped a few wings but prefer something with a tail (Current is a glass fibre fuse, balsa wing V-tail at 800mm)
Just can't understand why you are all not much much better slopers by now. I mean dern, you've had 4 years with all the awesome slope spots in the mountainous land in North Canton, OH! Lol that looked a hoot. Thanks folks.
Awesome having Josh Scott back with the boys, great character. I fly hang gliders & mostly slope soar, that is the next level, even better than FPV, actually being up there. That looks like a great site for it.
I learned to fly doing slope soaring and still do as much as can do (or as the weather allow us). basically the nearest the ridge the most performance (ie speed) you get but also bumpier.. and away from the ridge is the cleanest... speed is pick by doing sideways runs (piloning) .. you can go for hours if the wind holds.. i have done flights of 2 hours and a half non-stop where ultimatelly you are the endurance limit (can get pretty chilly standing up in that wind that long)
Fun. I can do this once in a while in the foothills (CA - sierra) when the wind is just right. Altamont pass is also supposed to be pretty wild for sloping and dynamic soaring, not just the coast.
I could be wrong but that looks like the spot near the entrance to the Muir Beech Overlook. If it is, you could have gone another hundred yards or so north and you would have been a small clearing that most people (in my experience anyway) fly from. It gives you a little more room for landing and puts a little more distance between you and Hwy1. Either way, awesome video!
I went slope soaring for the first time about a year ago.. I wanted to try it before I bought some things incase I didnt like it. Wind wasnt that strong the first time but I went back again 6 months later and really got into the swing of things. Fast forward a year and now I have 2.6m DG1000, 4.2m DG808s. 3 wings and an F5B intertia / wilco / hawk to throw off a cliff.. I enjoy it so much, just a shame it doesnt happen as often as I would like. :) This vid made me very jealous.. :D
I cant believe its been 4 years since the last one. Does that mean Ive been flyin for 4 years ? This is the sort of video that has me hankering to go flyin ..now :-)
On the other side of a ridge I've heard of dynamic soaring where you use the vortex at the interface of the wind going over a ridge and the still air behind it as a source of energy and build up insane speeds looping in it. I'd love to see good footage of that. Nevermind, you mentioned it later.
A really fun episode guys especially the opening with Alex fulling on his face in to poison ivy OCH! LOL.BTW its very cool to see Josh Scott back flying behide the sticks I would to see him in a newer episode bringing back ''T J-Scott'' with him flying it if he hasn't crashed it already that is? LOL.Also Josh I hope your hand gets better soon.
I'd love to see you guys try slope soaring with helis! You got the hang of this pretty quickly, so it'd be a fun challenge. It's amazing to helis more or less auto rotating all day when they do that.
Super cool video guys. This is something us "middle of America" hobby fans don't get much exposure to. It's cool to see something different on the show.
You did well, considering these light wings are not really done for soaring, with "true" slope gliders (heavier, streamlined, and proper wing profiles) it's my favorite part of the hobby :)
water has a higher specific heat so in the summer it is still cold and because air flows from cold to hot win is produced and when it hits the side of the hill it flows up keeping your plane in the air
Come to salt lake. At the south end of the valley in a suburb called draper we have a mountain where theres a world class paragliding park and people often fly RC there. You'd love it.
I'm so happy Josh Scott is back!! Just like the good old days! :D
yeah
Peter could fly a rock.
Josh Scott has turned into a pretty damn good pilot
It's been cool watching him progress
Steven Zamborsky I´m impressed! he even did some aerobatics
Max Martini His soft landing in the only tree in the entire place was impressive. The other pilots were landing in the poison ivy.
+Jacob Hardy (JacobHardy64)
it's been absolutely EPIC watching the whole team grow!
The start was so funny with Alex and the Josh and Josh intro!! You ticked all the boxes on this one guys :D
FT Versa is my favorite plane to fly! I have built over 10 Versas with 3 Blunt noses hanging on my wall. Thank you FliteTest for making the plans free and posting videos on how to build every plane on your site!!!
Great to see Josh S. again. I miss him. He was the reason I started watching Flight Test. Rock on!
Welcome back Josh Scott, I can't tell you how much I've missed you and your sunny personality!!
Great to see Josh and Josh again. I haven't sloped in about 17 years. one of the best experience I've ever had. so peaceful. started with a Zagi Thermal. had so much fun with it. might be time for a new one. thanks guys for the memories!
Great seeing more gliding episodes. Again a lot of fun too watch.
Finally some old school FliteTest. I enjoyed seeing you guys again, just having plain fun without that commercial crap... This one put a smile on my face. Thanks fellows.
awesome episode. Loved having Josh and Josh back. The format was fantastic. Loved it.
Man it's good seeing Josh Scott again!! We need more videos with him please!
One of my favorite FT videos of all time!!! There is something really special about seeing you guys out of the flat lands and experiencing something so different at such an incredible spot. I hope you are given the freedom and have the time to do more "on the road" episodes in the future!!!

Loved this episode, it's really back to what FT was in the beginning, really nice! More episodes like this please!
I lived in Long Beach Calif, and it was slope soaring that got me interested in RC. Slope soaring is great. Inspired me to try my combat wings down the beach this weekend. Great video.
This takes me back to the 80's when I had many years of slope soaring with the Bromley Soaring Club in SE London UK. We used to fly off the South Downs. Looking forward to getting the courage to go back into the hobby and built by first foam board plane. Until then I shall carry on with my Mavic Pro :).
This video made me happy. Felt like old-school FliteTest :)
Great episode. The VersaWing in one of my favorite FT planes. Glad to see it reborn again.
This is one of my favorite Flite test videos.
Built the powered versa but wanted to build the slope version too. Glad to see how well it slopes. Great design‼️
Glad to see Josh Scott back, even more special here in the West coast. I live in sunny SoCal
Cheers
One of the best flitetest videos since DW left.....
Well done guys....good to see Josh & Josh together again.
Slope soaring is the coolest. Motor-less flight is my jam right now. Just got a gentle lady kit at a swap meet and cannot wait to build it and make a DIY high start to get it up for some thermal surfing.
Soooo good to see Josh and Josh back together. Great episode
This 52 year old, Loves your videos.
I have to say, The swede is my favorite.
Hey Josh,
With your hand injury it would really be a great time for you to find (with your resources and contacts) to help and show the different helps for those of us who luv this hobby while having "permanent" disabilities (loss of fingers, hands, etc) and are struggling......We need you.... and your team! Great video. Longer videos really capture the fun of flying.
Nice to see you two flying together, and slope soaring at that too! I had a riot when Peter brought out the at beast and was actually flying pretty well with it. Hope the hand gets better soon,so you can get back to loads more flying again!
Josh is back, and the world is a slightly better place!
since park flying at all the parks in my town is banned and prohibited, this is one of the few options of flying I have so i am super glad flite test caught on to this awesome style of flight
Great episode guys, really enjoyed this one, now I HAVE to go sloaping. Great to see Josh Scott again too.
It was great to run into you guys at Habit Burger in Alameda. I'm looking forward to more west coast series videos. We don't have any Poison Ivy out here on the West coast, but we do have lots of Poison Oak! Sorry if you picked up a little in the bushes. It grows everywhere!
Duane Pinkerton Nice to meet you too Duane. Well at least Alex knows what kind of poison he got covered in. ;)
FliteTest I think you guys were trompin' around in chaparral and sage. Both have very strong smells. Keep comin' out to cali!
+j69chevelle At 7:55 you can see the sage. Hills of sage! That's really cool. It must smell really nice there on windy days.
+j69chevelle - And lots of ticks in the sage...
Depends on where you are, but yes...
I've been missing Josh Scott's humor! Welcome back! Great episode guys.
Great vid lads and also good to see Josh & Josh back flying together.
JOSH SCOTT!!! Long live. Good to have you "back"
Lol. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time..
GREAT TO SEE Josh Scott and the smile on his face while he was soring.. priceless :)
OMG! The two Josh's are here! The gang is almost complete... Chad and David aren't present though, but it is REALLY good to see you two back.
you guys should go to a slope combat event, TONS of fun when you get over 15 planes all trying to hit each other with the wind whipping all around. nothing like it :D
i go to the Tri-cities Washington area for the main combat event in spring.
Slope gliding with a Zagi( Delta wing) was one of the most relaxing and fun experience I ever had.
Best episode in a long time. Whaddup josh!!
cool rc action guys, great to see Josh Scott back on youtube, love it
Great job guys! I actually learn to fly slope soaring then got into powered flight... slope soaring was super great to really get to know a plane... by the time I got to powered flight I had very good flying skills. By the way... I got into flying wings thanks to flite test! Keep up the good work ;-)
You folks are a blessing...
Love the intro lol!! And great to have Josh back!
Just can't understand why you are all not much much better slopers by now. I mean dern, you've had 4 years with all the awesome slope spots in the mountainous land in North Canton, OH!
Lol that looked a hoot. Thanks folks.
For those wondering how Josh (His youtube name, but real name is Enrique), google 'hurts hand in concert' and you will see how he hurt it.
onjoFilms lol!
onjoFilms It took me way too long to figure out the joke behind this comment lol
Lol i am the most gullible person on Earth i literally thought you were telling the truth
In a 2017 QnA, he broke his hand by falling out of a treehouse, he fell out of it because a baby racoon scared him (Or something).
Please bring back those Classic old School reviews with Josh and Josh!
In my opinion next step for Josh Scott is designing a plane and call it "FT Scotty" :)
Good to see you again Josh..
Great to see another slope soaring episode, hope you will do some more :)
Awesome having Josh Scott back with the boys, great character. I fly hang gliders & mostly slope soar, that is the next level, even better than FPV, actually being up there. That looks like a great site for it.
FUN, FUN, FUN, this is unlimited fun!!!!
Hey Josh, it's harder than you thought isn't it! Glad you finally tamed it!
great episode , all pure fun!
Feel well Bixler. Josh S - you give the right flavor for these episodes.
I learned to fly doing slope soaring and still do as much as can do (or as the weather allow us).
basically the nearest the ridge the most performance (ie speed) you get but also bumpier.. and away from the ridge is the cleanest... speed is pick by doing sideways runs (piloning) .. you can go for hours if the wind holds.. i have done flights of 2 hours and a half non-stop where ultimatelly you are the endurance limit (can get pretty chilly standing up in that wind that long)
The Versa Wing is still my favorite. Peter's plane looked awesome soaring around without a motor.
Great to see the Joshes back together again :)
Ace Combat fans will recognize the paint schemes on the under side of Josh's and Josh's planes.
Josh and Josh!!! yay best on camera duo ever! batman and robin aint got nothing on you two!!
Great to see Josh Scott! Looks like he's picked up some skills too!
That was really cool...thanks guys and get well soon Josh...👍
Josh you looked like total noob but then became a master in like five minutes!
great episode. who could build the biggest slope souring plane may be a good challenge
"Josh I'm proud of you, Don't Hit Me". That was gold literally
Yea! It's baby Josh! Long time lil buddy!
hi flite test you guys are epic and as soon as i found youre channel i got into the hobby youre amazing ! :)
Fun. I can do this once in a while in the foothills (CA - sierra) when the wind is just right. Altamont pass is also supposed to be pretty wild for sloping and dynamic soaring, not just the coast.
This REALLY makes me want to get my Siren Hotliner to the coast lickety split... I haven't slope soared in ages.
Looks like great fun. Nice to hear the I'm Josh etc intro, it's been too long Mr Scott.
I could be wrong but that looks like the spot near the entrance to the Muir Beech Overlook. If it is, you could have gone another hundred yards or so north and you would have been a small clearing that most people (in my experience anyway) fly from. Either way, awesome video!
You guys are the BEST!!!
I went slope soaring for the first time about a year ago.. I wanted to try it before I bought some things incase I didnt like it. I enjoy it so much, just a shame it doesnt happen as often as I would like. :) This vid made me very jealous.. :D
Great to see you soaring the Versa Wing. The speed record by the way is now 503 miles/hour
Can't believe it. I have been nagging you for years to do slope soaring.
And then I nearly missed the episode! PSS for the win!
I cant believe its been 4 years since the last one. Does that mean Ive been flyin for 4 years ?
This is the sort of video that has me hankering to go flyin ..now :-)

That looks super fun. Maybe you guys could go into the science behind it in another episode.
A really fun episode guys especially the opening with Alex fulling on his face in to poison ivy OCH! LOL.Also Josh I hope your hand gets better soon.
More Josh Scott! Great guy. Nice job flying fellas.
Great video! I really like this type of flying:D
Nice! I used to fly 1:1 gliders back in the day and this video made me miss it alot...
Great video, love you guys! ♥
I'd love to see you guys try slope soaring with helis! You got the hang of this pretty quickly, so it'd be a fun challenge. It's amazing to helis more or less auto rotating all day when they do that.
Looking foward for dynamic soaring
Super cool video guys. This is something us "middle of America" hobby fans don't get much exposure to. It's cool to see something different on the show.
Slope soaring would be great with the FT Tiny Trainer. Next time you must demo every Flite Test build(unpowered) and slope soar each one.
Awesome! More sloping videos please. And more glider(powered or DLG) reviews too please! Other than that great video! Thanks.
You did well, considering these light wings are not really done for soaring, with "true" slope gliders (heavier, streamlined, and proper wing profiles) it's my favorite part of the hobby :)
This 1 my fav FT videos- just wish seen J scott climbing the tree :>)! mini guinea was sweet!
water has a higher specific heat so in the summer it is still cold and because air flows from cold to hot win is produced and when it hits the side of the hill it flows up keeping your plane in the air
1:43 - More commonly known as Dynamic soaring, but it does use kinetic energy.
6:43 ;)
Klinger RC only off a bit, lol
+Rcbif They've gone over 500 MPH and will likely break the speed of sound someday. The fastest RC planes are gliders.
Nice job guys!
Come to salt lake. At the south end of the valley in a suburb called draper we have a mountain where theres a world class paragliding park and people often fly RC there. You'd love it.
