  • A few of our lovely residential advisors (RAs) recorded a quick tour of each dormitory building so you can get a glance inside and decide which dorm is for you-and see how much space you’re working with as you pack! There are definite perks to each dorm as they’re a little different from one another, but we hope this video and the information online provides enough info to assess the details of each option and choose the best one for you!
    Here you’ll find the official link to PUMS information on Dormitory accommodations through the school: pums.ump.edu.pl/admissions/st...
    Also, the English Program’s Student Union (EPSU) assists with all student-related activities at the University and-together with the RA’s-has assembled a thorough outline of the move-in process for new students. You can find that here! epsu2.ump.edu.pl/moving-into-d...
    For those of you who are interested, there are four options for dormitory living: Karolek, Medyk, Aspirynka, and Eskulap. These options are available for English and Polish students of the MD and DDS programs and are located close to one another, as well as to a few university buildings and the main library. For DDS students, a vast majority of your classes will be within 5 minutes of any dorm, while MD students are about a 25 minute walk from their main building for first and second year classes. Overall, dorm living is an affordable and reliable way to meet more people while being in a convenient location during your studies!
    In order to sign up for dormitory accommodations, you’ll need to send your dorm request via applicant.ump.edu.pl which is available only to students who have paid their first tuition installment. This process should be outlined in your welcome emails upon acceptance. Your onboarding representative can answer any basic questions you have about this!
    All first years will be placed in a double room with a roommate. Towards the end of the year, some single rooms will become available (particularly Eskulap) and if you are willing to pay double, you can take advantage of living alone!
    RENT PRICING:
    KAROLEK - 600 PLN + hot water, electricity, laundry
    MEDYK - 480 PLN
    ASPIRYNKA - 500 PLN
    ESKULAP - 380 PLN
    You only need 2 weeks notice to vacate the dorms, but need to alert administration of your intentions to leave as well as schedule time for the RA/admin team to come inspect your room upon moveout if you’d like to receive your refundable dormitory deposit back. The deposit is 1500 PLN and will be received in full via bank transfer within a month after vacating.
    If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments!

    I really wish there was a vlogger for Bialystok university of medicine (MUB) as well since it would be useful if there was someone I could contact was there even if it’s to clarify trivial things about the university or day to day activities like cooking meals, etc.

    FYI...600 PLN is only $163 a month or $1,467 a month. That's about two months rent in many places.

    Very nice and helpful video. Thanks Shammy.
    Are there kitchens and laundry rooms on every floor in each of the dormitories?

    • @ShammyBenjamin
      @ShammyBenjamin  3 роки тому +1

      Hi there! For Karolek there is only one room and it’s on the lowest level, though there is a kitchen on every floor. Some of the dorms are different I believe and have laundry on each floor! Kitchens on each floor in every dorm option. ☺️

    This is very informative! I was wondering though what would be the best options for a student to find an off campus apartment in Poznań ?are there any specific websites or agencies to go through or would Airbnb be the best bet ?

    • @ShammyBenjamin
      @ShammyBenjamin  3 роки тому

      Yes! On Facebook there are groups like PUMS Apartment Search as well as specific apps like Otodom and OLX.

    Do they offer utensils in dormitory or do we have ti bring them with us

    • @ShammyBenjamin
      @ShammyBenjamin  3 роки тому +2

      In the dorms they provide you with sheets, a pillow, a lamp, and ethernet cable, complimentary Wi-Fi, but that’s basically it. you will need to purchase all of your own utensils, cookware, and router, as well as anything else you might need. Uber eats is reasonable to utilize for your first few days until you’re adjusted and there is an IKEA nearby as well! hope this helps!

    Heyya do you mind listing which of these dorms are all inclusive i.e bills included in the monthly payment (gas and electric and water) also with regards to wifi are they also in the monthly dues and do we just have to connect when we arrive?

    • @ShammyBenjamin
      @ShammyBenjamin  3 роки тому +1

      Hey there!
      All dorms are inclusive except for Karolek. Wifi is covered in all dorms, you just need to purchase a router upon your arrival, but that is the only cost reliant upon you for Wifi :)

      @@ShammyBenjamin Hi Shammy! thanks for this reply! I've gathered all the info I need and have decided to apply to PUMS however, my exam is on the 23rd and Interview on the 25th of July. Do you think that me interviewing this late in the process negatively affects my chances of getting a place? should I get ready to apply next year or it doesn't really matter? sorry I'm just worried lol.

    • @ShammyBenjamin
      @ShammyBenjamin  2 роки тому +1

      J P That’s exciting news! So excited for you. Interviewing this late absolutely does not negatively affect you-if anything, it makes the decision process quicker than it would be at times if interviewing earlier in the year. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to respond or to connect you with other students who have insight as well :)

      @@ShammyBenjamin Hi Shammy! my exams are coming up! I'm getting really nervous! I can't seem to get physics sorted and I've got less than a week. I just wanted to ask how the admission criteria is like? do they look at it holistically? How much weight does the MCQ carry?will a low MCQ score say less than 50% negatively affect my chances of getting in? Can I still get in if I don't do well on the mcq

      @@JP-zt1uf I got a test result of 51% but I worked hard to pass the interview. I continued using the practice tests on OLAT and used Khan Academy as a resource along with SnapRevise on UA-cam and googled the answers that I didn't know, during the practice sessions, if I couldn't find in the textbooks.
      I don't how much the MCQ is weighted but was very surprised to learn that I was accepted. At the start of the interview, I was asked to introduce myself, my voluntary work/work experience and my research interests. That's where I spoke about my research from final year talked a lot of my undergraduate research. The questions I got asked in the interview were similar to the OLAT platform ones so practice like mad!
      The interview questions were based on my project - like I got asked about the blood components as I used blood in my project. They didn't ask me about why I chose PUMS or Poland. I think that might have been due to time constraints - the interview was only 25 mins long
      Good luck!

    Hi there are student couples allowed to share in karolek?

    • @ShammyBenjamin
      @ShammyBenjamin  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, absolutely! The dorms let you specifically request whatever roommate you would like and (if it’s mutual of course) you’ll be assigned together!

    I’ve been told by my Polish friends about the Poland’s attitude to lgbt. They have no experience of Poznań but how would current students rate the city?

    • @ShammyBenjamin
      @ShammyBenjamin  3 роки тому +2

      Hi There Jasper! Not sure of the context of your question but I’ll do my best. I have a few colleagues that identify as LGBTQ and I know that they enjoy the city and traveling throughout Poland and Europe. That being said, the government here is definitely extremely conservative and I have also heard of a couple of harassment cases against friends that are LGBTQ or of particular races. Overall, I think the atmosphere in the public is positive and at the school is largely supportive (maybe indifferent is a better term), but just like anywhere else, there may be incidents that take place unfortunately. I’m not sure if I’m the best resource for answering this in any more detail-I urge you to get the first-hand opinion of those who identify as LGBTQ by connecting with EPSU PUMS on Facebook and joining the Applicants FAQ group! Hope this helps-best of luck!
