  • I head to the distant Ghost Rock to stash water for my Thunder River/Deer Creek loop hike where I plan to go off-trail near Deer Creek and exit the canyon via a longer route.
However, a foot injury that I suspect is from a fairly recent car accident, brings my plan to a stop.
Thunder River Trail is located at the dead end of FSR 232 on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in a very remote region of the Kaibab National Forest. If the dirt forest roads are passible, you first arrive at Indian Hollow Forest Camp and the trailhead is another 1/2 mile or less further down the road.
Bring ALL your water. GPS navigation is/was very helpful.
It is very quiet out here.

    Backstory:
For my 5oth unbirthday (born on Leap Year) I spend 4 months (February - June 2022) at the GCNP
attempting to accomplish 12 hikes and 50 nights below the rim of the Grand Canyon.
Challenges begin soon after I arrive and my grand plan quickly dissolves.
