- A super basic ArmA 2 editor guide showing you a few of the things I use to create scenarios. I don't know everything there is to know about the editor, this is just me passing on some of what I've learned so far.

You can honestly never get bored with the Arma 2 editor, so good.
MOST SIMPLE way of a quick firefight ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
-Place 4 groups on each side!
-Give those groups only one waypoint (chose Guard waypoint, you can put it right in front of the group)
That's it!
Just go and pick a fight...any group with a "Guard" waypoint will move to the location of the fight...if you start fighting some where else they will move there too!
You can place a helicopter on the other side of the map, as soon as the fight starts he will move to the location of the fight
Remember...all you need is one waypoint for each group a "Guard" waypoint
To delete a single unit, hover over the unit with your cursor until the name appears, then press the delete key. As for grouping, you can only link people to you if you are a higher ranking unit. Thumbs up so he can see.
I honestly spend more time on the editor than playing the game. It's great. Once I've perfected the scenario I try it once and make a new one. Aha. Amazing the amount you can do. I've been wandering if you can make a unit group and copy and past it repeatedly? Anyone know? Oh and if you don't have Arma 2 or Arrow head, If you're going to get one I couldn't possibly suggest which to get, they are both as goodfas each other but original being based on USMC vs Russia and Arrowhead is U.S. Army vs op-for insurgents in desert maps.There is the editor in both.
Jacob hey dude! To answer your copy past thing all you need to do is: Copy the unit by click holding and dragging the little green box over top of the troops you want to copy, then click ctrl + c will copy and then ctrl + v will spawn it.
Plus if you ever want somone to play or even test one of your maps I would love to!
when you create a unit select none in "special" where its sais "In Formation" by default. also if u want an helicopter to spawn in the air select "flying"
To clear one unit, hover over an object and click delete on the keyboard
Great Video, one of the most helpful mini guides i've found on UA-cam. You've most definitely been told this by now but to delete individul units or groups hold DEL (delete) and move your cursor over the unit you would like to delete. :p nice video!
Great tutorial on the basics. Regarding deleting individual units, for me all I have to do is put the cursor over whoever I want to delete and press the delete key, I'm not sure but maybe you have to select them first.
Actually, you can get some really great scenarios going by just using the synchronise system for waypoints, some basic trigers and "x moveingcargo y" command. (x being the unit name of the unit moved into the y units cargo)
This way you can for example create a mission where you are deployed via helo with music being triggered, and have a parallel squad have a synchronised attack on a location with you.

To clear a unit is CTRL X to copy and past is CTRL C and CTRL V
+Zoli Feher ctrl+x is cut not delete. If you ctrl+x, then ctrl+v it will move the unit.
Oh
make sure you are in create unit mode. all you do is select one unit then press the delete key but only for one, click and drag and select multiple units then hold left shift and press delete to delete selected.
a while ago, you were complaining about how the ai bots leave cover. that problem completely goes away with turning on the super ai in the difficulty menu. the linking units things depends on which direction you link units. if you link one unit to another, that's like saying "you follow him". the only thing that changes this is the rank of units. the standard cut, copy, and paste also work here
Set formation to column. Making a convoy mission in ArmA has always been tedious but there are scripts you can use to make the convoy very robust. ArmA 3 is having a big layout change which could mean that it's easier to manage things like convoys.
I can't wait for ArmA 3. I've never really dived into ArmA 2, mainly because I'm a spoiled current-gen gamer and can't stand how clunky the animations and sounds are, but I love the idea of a game having a massive single area that you can create your own scenarios in.
Hey sidestrafe. To group and ungroup units select groups with F2 click and hold the unit you want to group or ungroup and drag the line to any unit in a particular group to group it, or into nothing to ungroup.
When you have it running well its good fun to select EVERYTHING and drag it to a different town or location.
It usually needs tweaking though.
18:40 To delete a single unit hover the cursor over the unit and hit delete key, deleting a larger squad hold delete key and float your cursor over them like a rain of death.
To delete the individual units press and hold the delete key while you hover the mouse cursor over the unit.
i been asking for Editors & Skirmish against bots in FPSs lately, by now only CoD Ghosts allows you to play againts Bots.
did you try fc3? You can also make your own map with ai in skyrim and fallout. I love ames with mao editors and ai.
you realize most FPS games on PC have editors and bots right? Maybe trade in your console for a PC????
yogidrummer333 i have a gaming rig. I dont have an xbox 360 or ps3. I want something that lets you place your own buildings, maps, etc.
I dont have a name Oh okay... well Arma allows for placement of structures and what-not, but not for major buildings. You might try the Far Cry series as they allow you to completely modify the terrain and place buildings, but of course it's not as large a setting as Arma, nor does it have the graphics of Call of Duty or Battlefield, but it's still a lot of fun to be able to create just about any type of map you can think of. The future looks bright though and I'm sure someone out there has the same dream as you and many others and is working on something like that. Just keep your eyes open. Hell, there may already be something good like that out there. A lot of these Minecraft-type games are looking hopeful.
yogidrummer333 not far cry ..the ai is worth SHIT try CRYSIS the editor is a little more complex but just watch a few videos
Hey @SideStrafe, if you're loving Arma2, you might want to consider getting a Track IR headset. It takes a little bit to get used to, but after a while, it makes moving around the AO so much easier. Especially as far as situational awareness is concerned.
SideStrafe, it would be great if you did a video or could include in the description only, what kind of softwares you are using, ie. for recording (Fraps, DxTory), rendering (Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere or even Windows Movie Maker), your export settings etc, because your quality is very good and I am sure more people would like to know.
If you want OPFOR move when BLUFOR triggers trigger, use syncrhonise tool. Link the trigger to OPFOR's waypoint. OPFOR will move to waypoint when trigger conditions are met. Problems with group tool were that all were under SL's command (AI.) You must detach unit from squad to put him into new squad. Also, basic scripting is useful. Mostly put them to Intilaziation box, there you can start animations, modify loadout and for example set flying height to plane. It's alot of copy-pasting though.

Also, I think it's very impressive to comment for 25 minutes straight and being on point all the time.
It's because they're set to In Formation. Change that setting and you'll see they spawn where you placed them. However, they will want to return to formation once they spawn if they are in your group.
You should select the units and press Ctrl+X, which will cut them out. Then if you press Ctrl+V you can paste.
just a note.. to mess around (without consequence) on bf3.. just find an unranked server without password protection.. and you can mess around to your hearts content
How do you get all those maps
By hovering over them i mean you have to have the black dialogue box telling you what unit it is to delete it, you can have your cursor somewhat over the tank and hit delete.
Delete multiple units.. Select the units and press shift and delete. to selectively select units press CTRL and click on the units you want to select.
SideStrafe you should have put the scripting wiki in the description or something, it has loads of awesome information about scripting for the mission editor, just google arma 2 scripting and it's the first thing that comes up.
you may also hit control x and delete al selected units vise versa you may copy by control c and past control v

True. It wasn't working for SideStrafe because he probably didn't hover over the center of the unit so its name didn't pop up.
To delete one unit, you select the unit and press the delete key, the mouse must hover over the unit. To delete a squad select the squad, and press shift and delete, no mouse position required.
No just press ctrl + x
To delete specific units you just hover over them and hit delete. You can also select a bunch of units at once and hit delete I'm pretty sure.
And the linking is what the synchronize option is partly used for
Section is the British name for a Squad, a Platoon was traditionally made up of Sections in the British Army.
SideStrafe, lets get some of your fans and play some ArmA II user created missions from say Armaholics or some site, with ACE and ACRE. Now that would be a blast.

You actually can freerom on Battlefield 3. You just have to find a server that doesnt have anyone in it.Then bam.If you are playing conquest then you are able to practice flying jets,tanks,etc.

SideStrafe, you have to move your mouse over the unit so that the name of the unit shows, and then click delete

Yes, this! Its a bit expensive (and please dont forget to get it with the TrackClip PRO) but it is definitely worth it for ArmA an other games as well.
You either have to have them selected or hovering over the unit icon so that you can see the name of the unit i.e. "Rifleman"
You delete individual units by highlighting the unit then pressing the delete key when hovering over them.
I was talking about stuff like ACE (Advanced Combat Environment), but thanks for replying ^^

These maps should have proper rivers small ones wide ones etc with bridges etc.
Theyre about the only thing thats sorely lacking in arma 2.
Itll be great for tactics and battles if rivers are in arma 3 and show the importance of a river crossing.
make sure you have the unit tab selected on the side bar
if u want ambiend animals/ ambient combat /ambient civilians atc. go to modules and select what u want
Hold down ctrl and draw a big square to delete multiple things.
british section = 8 men, 2 fire teams. there are usually 3 sections in a platoon.
ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead and Reinforcements adds the other maps you see in this video.
the enter on the numpad at the side is the default for third person
To delete press and hold down the delete button and hold the mouse over the unit ;)
He has a whole vid just explaining his video settings, go to his channel and look in the ArmA playlist.
Units in groups are automatically linked to the highest ranked character.
Drop an ambient combat module in and make sure its not overloaded to your computes max processing power with too many soldiers and all sorts of interesting things happen.
My ambient combat is synchronized to 4 big squads of USA soldiers and I know it works like this.
Awesome, you should do a bit more and do like.. tutorial on building defensive positions then test it against a simple OpFor assault.. NOW THAT.. would be cool!
Hi, really liked the video. Just a quick question: Did you do it in the Arma 2, Operation Arrowhead or the Combined Operations editor?
The editor is fantastic and there is a 3d editor (but its hard to find/use)

This why I love companies like BIS, they basically give you unlimited free content. Companies that make games that are not even finished, just to have an excuse to release ridiculously-priced DLC, simply suck. Sadly, this is what video-games are coming to with stupid pre-order bonuses and such...
to clear the unit hit the delete key by the backspace and to clear like all highlighted units shift delete

Should be an option to let zombies spawn freely around the map. Mainly to give it a survival feel to it. Thumbs up if you agree =)

In british it is in fact Platoon. I don't know what part og the military "section" is must be a TA or special forces thing.
Chernarus is bigger and nicer then Takistan, but Operation Arrowhead has a desert and a city map.

Sorry I will haft to correct you there mate... MTP is the latest issue camo which everyone now uses in Afghanistan. The old one being Desert DPM.. I was just asking if MTP was made by the same people as Multicam because the British army designed/made MTP when Mulicam is American made. Anyways woodland DPM is really just used in training operations now and for woodland environments (abit obvious)..
Oh, that's what you meant. I was debating with him why I think Marxism is a bad way of running government (violations of human rights, forcing skilled workers out of the country because their job is valued the same as one that takes no skill/training, etc.).
If the delete button doesnt work, the press shift and delete at the same time. That does it for me.
