with 0 weight and maximum speed you can usually survive that as host and take 0 or 50 damage. idk about clients You can always set off an survive a landmine if you have 0 weight and increased speed from being/just having come off a slope, like manor stairs
Also bcs of game balance. There can only be around 5 monsters in a indoors map and there can be over 20 turrets depending on the moon. If the turrets can hurt monsters, they'll get them before we can even spot one monster.
my guess is they were programmed to only deal with human intruders who would try to steal weapons while the wildlife was still far away from the population at the time before being abandoned and taken over by nature
IMPORTANT: Apparently you can sprint straight through a landmine without jumping. Sometimes you'll be able to sprint through without being touched and sometimes you'll take 50 damage. I wasn't aware of this when I made this video. Huge thanks to NeRo for help with this video as well as Digg from discord for some extra pointers!
One extra thing about landmines. Sometimes they can spawn right infront or on emergency exits. If u step on it and exit the facility it will blow up once ur outside preventing any damage, similar to how teleporting saves you from it.
IMPORTANT NOTES: - Detonating landmines works as client, but if you activated without it blowing up, picking up the item will set it off, killing you, anyone else can pick it up juat fine - Looking up instead of down gives you more time to run away from the landmine, at the cost of being harder to time
A couple points to add about turrets: If you leave the turret's line of sight when it locks onto you, but if you enter it again too quickly, it will begin firing. Basically, all that matters is that it can see you after that 1.5 seconds. When turrets are firing, they will not move to track you. This can be useful, for example if you are in a staircase railing room, you can have it start firing right as you jump down, and the turret will be shooting up while you are safely on the bottom floor. While turrets cannot shoot or first see you through doors, they CAN continue seeing you through doors, so long as they already saw you. When I first started playing the game, I got stuck behind a door with a turret contantly shooting in the appy room, and I couldn't leave at all because the turret would get me.
btw, to deactivate a mine or sentry you will see a door code with a red dot in it on the ship's monitor. type in the 2 character code and it will be deactivated
I think it would be neat if Nutcrackers, Old Birds, and other similarly mechanical esque enemies could also be disabled for a few seconds. Maybe as an upgrade for the ship where you can disable a robotic enemy for maybe 3 seconds or so tops, but it can only be one at a time compared to traps.
ima drop a sub just for the ai breakdown videos. I can read people's posts on the enemy ai, but your videos are easily digestable and perfect for sending to my friends so they don't have to go looking for info
You can use used stun grenades to activate landmines by throwing them on it which I believe is some what easier than some of the methods you described.
ive been watching these basically since they started and the intro made me realize i wasnt subscibed, actually guess thats a testament to how nicely the algorithm's been treating these (rightfully so)
There is an easier way of disarming landmines, if your holding nothing run into a wall until the stamina bar is a little bit below half to build a momentum, if you run over a landline, you’ll have enough speed to not get hurt at all
This was mentionned, it's equivalent to running full speed, though it's often easier to jump, which is why alter said it that way. (And I think there was smth where in vanilla you couldn't do it without jumping, I forgot)
one time i was playing this game with my friends. we were on dine, and there was a turret right in front of the fire exit, facing directly towards it. usually, i would have gone in the door, seen that the turret was about to shoot and run out of its range, but one of my friends activated it before i went inside and i died immediately
you can use the turrets 160° swivel range to your advantage. Bait it to one side of its max vision then step behind it to give you or your teammate more time to run past it. repeat that for your teammate to keep it locked to the left or right forever Host has also more convenient ways of blowing up landmines, by keeping shift held, walking up to a landmine, then jumping, reaching 80-100% of your max height, dropping an item while looking forward, and starting to run backwards at the same time. Doesnt work on a select few items, notably: all four melee weapons. all flahsbangs soccerballs and eggs
Running at full speed without items can also be a way to disable landmines without taking damage or dying in the process (can be dependant of how much room you have left to run)
this NEEDS to be mentioned about turrets: if they lock onto you, you can go around it in circles, and it will not begin shooting until its laser has managed to stay on you for about a second. I feel like this has to be mnetioned herey since I only know it from experience, and I feel like looking in the code could give a much more exact explanation.
Thanks for making this! Out of curiosity, do turrets and land mines spawn in clusters? Sometimes I'll find 4 or 5 turrets all just around the corner from each other, and I wonder if this is an intentional spawn mechanic or just bad luck on my side.
I really want to be able to knock over turrets. It’d be a really fun Portal easter egg to knock over a turrets and have it fire for a few seconds before deactivating permanently. In exchange, since you’d just do this every time, have turrets be able to damage enemies and let the bullets be blocked by their hitboxes (even after defeating them) so players have some incentive for keeping them “alive.”
You should have mentioned that blocking the turret's LoS doesn't do anything until the orange light turns off. Otherwise it continues to track you through the wall.
you know, it would be a cool concept if you set your voice up and spoke like Sigurd did and made a series out of it. Sigurd's Logs, and it's all about teaching the player basic stuff
Could you not have mentioned how to disable them from the ship? I'm sure some people would have benefitted from knowing the commands and how to spot each of them from the monitor. I wish also there were more interactions where you could use the traps and environment to kill or at least stall enemies. The whole turret doing no damage and landmines not being set off seems kinda silly but I can see how it balances the game.

You can do it without jumping, it just requires you to be 0 pounds and like 70% of your stamina
you still need some distance between you and the landmine though, maybe 3-4 meters

It’s funny when Landmines spawn in front of the main entrance door because as soon as you teleport into the interior you instantly blow up 😂

Extra info about turrets: They can't shoot through pipes, and sometimes they can't shoot through shelves (The ones in the massive apparatice room).
You can outrun the landime if you have enough room and an empty inventory. No jumps needed. I am always doing that
Maneater activating land mines is something beyond humor.
HI mate, like your videos! Got a question: how are you filming cinematics? What is that mod?
there's a reason I keep easter eggs on hand. they're re-useable landmine detonators
