1)DHAs,In Multan,Quetta & Fsd larger than life, valuable Agri lands being converted,Mepco chief told that he had to grant/approve much bigger grid than capacity under the thumb in unprofessional manner.
2)heavy concessions & subsidies to Faugi F. to set up industrial units & to run, creating imbalance & disparity as against private sector,no level playing field.
3)If business by army is must then why F.F did not took over steel mill & other industries in doldrums in national interest? Why to go for consumer industry for quick profits.
4)Please google Nehru’s letter to Indian army chief after independence directing to change the character of Indian army from colonial to national army. What did it mean or why he wrote that only national army can go along with free India?
5)Please compare top structure of indian army and its subservience to constitution with our conditions.

Dear Sir, LT Gen Tariq khan is an opportunistic person. He in his whole service PROTECTED his own professional growth and development. From 2nd LT to LT Gen, he never thought and worked for Army reforms, as he knew he will not grow in the system with such thinking. Those who thought and worked for reforms and development, were either weeded out or left too early.
So these double faced Gen only see the opportunities and see their own interest

It is bacause whenever people got chance they failed to deliver and instead of accepting the failures and correcting their ownself, very cleverly always put blames on Mil leadership that they didn't allow him to function.....that sometimes had some truth in it... so for me all of us need to look inwards, aur apna apna self correction karain, na kay , keep blaming each other.....
Sab kay saath issues hain aur sab ko theek honay ki zaroorat...
      Lekin ikhtiar jiska hota hai
      Zimadari uski ziada hoti hai....

This was a very important discussion and your pioneering effort to bring the issue of military reform to the forefront of national consciousness and dialogue will always be remembered.
I just want to make a few points which I hope you will give consideration to:
    1. Gen Tariq's point about the intelligence services is correct. Intelligence services should be run and managed by intelligence professionals not the military. MI is already doing the job from the military perspective. This principle operates in all modern systems.
One of my uncles was one of the first ISI officers when it was established and one cousin of mine rose to become one of the ISI Directors as a civilian. This was their opinion as well.
    2. Certainly a distribution of power among the highest chiefs is needed as you have pointed out so that one person does not have sole authority.
    3. The fundamental point is that no matter what system of checks and balances is in place, if those who hold the power of the gun want to usurp even more power no system will be able to stop them. The solution lies in the belief system that is inculcated in the rank and file of the military AND the nation i.e. belief in tbe rule of law and the Constitution. It is this that stops dictators of all shades including the military ones.
We need to change not just the system but the men running the system.

All professions have the responsibility to clean there own mess... I font expect that from the mafia families that run the country... But expect the military to use it's brain and address this issue now... The army and ik... Are a good combination because he is honest...but ego and greed before country is wrong...

It was a pleasure to listen to the intellectual discourse of Mr.Haider Mehdi with Lt.Gen(R) Tariq Khan a professional soldier with outstanding merit and record in mily.operations.I have a few comments/suggestions.
1.There is a need to appoint a high-powered Commission by the Govt.and terms of reference be framed to address the issue of existing force structure, procurements, finance, logistics and other important areas to bring it in line with the best practices in modern-day armies of the world.A lean and trim Army should be the overarching goal.
2.It is imperative to review the paradigm shift of a territorial Armed Forces mainly responsible for the defence and security of the country as mandated in Constitution into undefined role as major Corporate and Commercial entity of the country. This work could also be entrusted to the Commission mentioned above.
3.There is need for strong commitment of Armed Forces to practically demonstrate apolitical role or non- intervention in civil affairs to restore the honour and respect of the Institution in eyes of the public.

First of all, Happy Birthday, Mehdi Saheb! Have a goood one!
Thanks, gentlemen for all the insight! Whatever reforms are needed, you people know better. But one thing I would like to add is that the officer taking over as the COAS, must be intellectually superior. A person can hide himself, and his real colours may never be known until he assumes a role of authority, but an individual who has the power and ability to see the bigger picture, will likely do things which are better in the long run. Anyone who is intellectually superior, will not stoop to a level which has been exhibited by Bajwa, for example. A person of that calibre will never feel comfortable with criminals like Nawaz, Asif, and Maryam etc. So, while integrity is a test of time, the intellectual capacity of a person can be easily gauged. Best regards,

Our sentiments for the army were always very patriotic and most loved, the few Generals have used our loyalties for the army for their own advantage &I think it’s time for the military to reciprocate this love and support to the bloody civilians. The amount of money spent on the billboards &posters to establish the armies lost position is going to waste as action speak louder then words so it’s time to show us they mean to value the people of Pakistan who have given them a huge chunk from the budget to strengthen them over decades.

Mr Tariq has strong points, we need to listen both sides. Military has right to do business if it is fair and not influenced. But Military has no right to manage politics. Military should be reduced and power divided in 3-4 generals, who report to different elected people to stop their interference in government.

What an insightful discussion within the context of much-needed military reforms in Pakistan! Fully agree with your guest about the revised role of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and in particular the separation of the ISI from the military, as a first step in that direction.

Happy Birhday Mehdi Sahib. Thank you for your efforts to bring truth to Pkistanis at home and abroad. Any effort to renew the army must begin with the punishment of crimnals involved in activities including murders and kidnapping of civilians, journalists and PTI workers, and also those involved in trying to pressurize judges for their illegal Agenda.

Sir, I have served in Ministry of Defence (MOD) . Mostly Secretary Defence is Retired Lt. General of Army. There are only three posts of Additional Secretary (BS - 21) which are filled up by Uniformed Persons permanently (one by Major General of Army, 2nd by Naval Officer equal to Major General and third by an Air Force Officer equal to Major General) . There is no weightage of Defence Minister in MoD. Secretary Defence is all in all. So MOD is fully controlled by Armed Forces. The civilians from Joint Secretarys (BS-20) to Naib Qasid (BS-2) also have no weightage in MoD.

Lt. Gen (R) Tariq Khan has no vision - after listen him i now know what is army approach. that is to keep Pakistan nation hostage to boots. Generals and their children enjoy the wealth. Look at Indian army how lean is their army structure is. and still they have won all the wars against Pakistan, 1965, 1971 , Kargil and now Kashmir they have overtaken.
