I have two old Selmers.
My first ever guitar amp was a s/h Selmer T'n'B 50 MkIII.
These days I have a MkII (awaiting new caps).
It was given to my girlfriend's father by Jim Marshall.
Jim and Bob were old mates.
Had F.ALL stencilled on the back, now worn off ...
My other Selmer is a Truvoice Concord 8, croc covering, now sporting a Celestion Green Back.
That also needs caps.
All in good time ...
Gotta say whenever I watch your videos I feel like I always get an unspoken lesson on playing dynamics. Love it! Keep up the great content and work!
Thanks for the kind words
Lesson one, step away from the Compressor ...
Unless you really really need it.
Thanks for posting this, I've been trying to find more demos of the Selmer amps for quite a while.
Just so awesome to hear your playing it's a true gift
Thanks!
Incredible player. I can listen to him all day!
No matter the amp or the guitar this dude makes them sound f-ing awesome
I used to buy and sell these as a hobby! They are so fine when they are sorted. I had a guy drive all the way from Germany (to the UK) to buy a Croc skin T 'n B with matching 18" bass cab. Guitars sound great through the 18" Celestion. Legend has it that a new salesman plugged the speaker into a live mains socket and produced the loudest sound in London since the blitz.
Thanks Josh for demoing this amp - there’s not a lot of mk1 videos on UA-cam and it’s great to hear a player as good as yourself putting one through it’s paces. Very cool.
It's a beautifully made amp
Sounds just great. Nice all around rock tone.
Great playing and demo! My first tube amp back in the 70s was a Selmer T&B MK II. Traded it in for about $50. SMH. Would love to have that amp now.
Josh, what a great video again. That sound.
I own 3 Selmer TB50 amps including a croc skin one as featured in this great video and can only agree with Josh......my other 2 TB50s are the black MK2 model and all 3 are great amps and still selling for reasonable money......
I've just learned about Selner in the last year or so. A friend hipped me to them. He has five Selmers I think. I haven't had a chance to play through one yet. Apparently they were the amp of choice for the Beatles before their manager signed a deal with Vox that only allowed them to play Vox onstage. Pretty awesome. Keep up the great work Josh!!
Look at the footage of their first New York stadium gig. Vox fronts but you can see the guts hanging out the back on a 3 second shot from the wings. I've had them apart, sure looks like the big Zodiac to me.
Literally just picked up a '71 T&B 100 yesterday. I've been playing through a Zodiac 50 for twenty five years. The Zodiac breaks up quick which I love. The T&B however is a 100w English beast.
Cool that the Echorec was used...Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd is known to have used this Selmer amp with the Echorec. Not sure if that was intentional or not for Josh to use it.
Insane playing!
that amp sounds awesome!
I love it!
Ha !!! You played my favourite part of Throught The night :)
The first time I heard of this amp was through playing a Balthazar Film Noir combo based on it. Really great sound... definitely on my list.
I picked up a MkIII a few days ago - really well maintained with F&T caps throughout (to my surprise and delight). The cathode caps on the ECC83s (12AX7) had drifted badly but were very easy to replace. That got rid of some background hiss. It's a really good sounding amp. I like it best when jumping the channels as you can really play with the tone between the two. AND it has an "Echo loop" (read effects loop in more modern parlance). all the hardware and controls are good quality (i.e. transformers, choke, pots, jack sockets, tube sockets). For the money (mine was £400 inc carriage!) these are a superb bargain if you can find one. Not quite sure why mine doesn't sound as good as Josh's...
I have three croc skins and a little giant. Nice to hear what they could sound like !
I have a Selmer Zodiac twin, with original Celestion speakers, but of course only tremelo, no Reverb. It sounds beautiful but really needs some well fitted Reverb to sound its best. I'm in New Zealand but let me know if you're interested.
This video is like a digitized candy store for guitarists.
great video JOSH U ABSOLUTE BEAST
Sweet! 😃
Chewy tones with that strat/selmer pairing. Hey Josh, it's ok to put the arm in the strat. I'm a tele guy also, but gotta play the strat with the arm.
I think I lost every bar I own at the moment!
@@JoshSmithGuitar That is a tough mood man I feel for you.
Hi Josh! Thanks for videos! 🍻
How loud is your amp when you record it?
It was relatively loud on this one.
They are awesome Amps 🎶🎶☮️
hope you got the fire extinguisher close by cause them fingers are smokin! killer as always!
Ha! Thanks!
Plexi overdrive is where this shines.
Josh just played more guitar in 12 minutes than the rest of us play in 12 years.
I’ve got one of those original sound city 4x12 cabs..jeez they are so heavy..I think they used lead instead of wood..got some big spiders living in it now.
ive got a selmer PA its 100 watts from the later era when they didnt have a valve rectifier.i would like to compare it to a treble and bass.it{s quite hard to keep it clean with humbuckers presumably cos its designed for mics so it has hot inputs.
Okay Wayne let’s put it back in the case...not today my good man cha-ching! Nice to have friends that can help a brotha out. Mighty Joe to the rescue! Bridge pick up Chuck Berry all day...
damn, i need to practice
Hey Josh Guitarzan 🎶🎶🏆
iv e got that amp here in London? Surry, Ian.
God I want one of these
Man, that amp sounds awesome! I saw you had a little tweed amp next to one of your AC amps at the Baked Potato last year. Is that a Morgan? Or something else?
If it was tweed then it was my Morgan JS12 next to my big Morgan JS40
How do you deal with single pickup noise? I feel like I need to learn to live with it because I love the sound and feel of single coils. I am always switching to positions 2 and 4 to cut noise but I am not big fan of that tone.
I just deal with. It's part of the deal!
Sounds great man! I have one to but it needs a new power Transformer. Someone who knows where i can get a replacement?
Found an old Selmer amp (new corvette) on the attic of my dads house. I cant find any informations about this thing. Two inputs, two volumes, one Tone knob wich functions as on/off switch as well. Does anybody know what Ive got?
7:23 wow 😮😁
🍾🍾🍾🍾
Yeah, sometimes the whole world looks better in B&W (to me anyway)
I had a Selmer Twin Selector-Tone but the o/p tx blew. I sent it off for a rewind but it never came back. www.vintagehofner.co.uk/selmer/schematic/tst.html
Does anyone own the Selmer brand that made these?
Nevertheless burmany jax
Lotsa mids!
