They can experiment a lot more easily on the comparatively lesser-viewed channels. Trying something new that ends up ticking off the 400k Mac Address subscribers is a lot less bad for the overall bottom line than ticking off the almost 15 million LTT subscribers, for example.

Where LTT is written in a way for mass adoption (not a bad thing), the way this channel feels is like watching the movie “Her”. It not just the mac related stuff. its the script, the presenter, the open feel of the environments. I really feel like this channel captured the feeling I had with some of the earlier LTT reviews where it's scripted with less jokes or at least more subtle and has this subtle casual feel. I'd love to see them combine this style with all the scientific data and the wider variety of devices on LTT. I have iOS and Android and apple and windows OS’s on my computers and I can confirm that this feature does technically exist on Samsung tablets however it is not a native feature of windows, have to setup and install some shit but once it’s done it’s good to go now downsides this is same as it’s upsides. It uses your centralized LAN network off your router. This is both a good thing because it makes it more universal it can even work more machines as long as on same network however downside is this is far more prone to lag spikes, disconnection issues and inherently because of how it’s presented over a shared network has potential to be vulnerable to some man in the middle attack.
Apple’s solution is far more seamless, clever and elegant. Somehow the computer realizes the iPad is next to it in real-time and which side it’s on to auto populate where your screen position is for moving shit to the iPad but also in background hidden it spawns another closed network that the iPad attaches to and is dedicated between the iPad and the mac. All without you touching anything just once the mac realizes the iPad is close enough they somehow bond together over a hidden dedicated network between them and even if don’t use universal access or sidecar or whatever but in the event you do it’s instantly ready because it’s already bonded and no downside to doing it this way for apple. Downside for us however is it’s more locked down and doesn’t work properly without authentic hardware running the OS likely because of some dependencies.

The iPad has Sidecar which works both wired and wireless and has absolutely zero lag, the response time is literally 1ms and quality is pretty much perfect (you need a microscope to notice compression artifacts), and guess what? A few things to note:
    1. Dex is very very very far from perfect and it doesn't work well with their own keyboard cover somehow, different apps behave differently which sucks. But it's a "desktop" mode. In the "touchscreen macbook" video u said yourself desktop interface is for precision input aka a pointer device, but here u are use your fingers and said resizable windows doesn't work. Of course a "computer replacement" without keyboard and mouse doesnt work. Look at tablet mode on windows, its not good.
Another point about dex, though not exclusively through it, is outputing to a large monitor with the correct aspect ratio. Again this and the dex feature itself is not even close to as useful as samsung says, which it should be given dex is 5 years old, but you are not comparing the whole of it to the ipad.
    2. For the app orientation part, though again far from perfect and quite hard to find in the settings, there's an option to choose how the app (like Instagram) should behave if it doesn't support landscape mode. It can either fill the whole screen in landscape or show as portrait with large black areas on both sides.
    3. The landscape on-screen keyboard is trash but if you are not using a physical keyboard, i dont see anything stopping you to type in portrait mode. Landscape keyboard doesnt make sense on any platform as it just blocks half the screen.
    4. Speaking of multiple devices, there is second screen feature which turns your tab into a wireless display, and it works for basically all windows computer. For someone that even considers to buy an android tablet in the first place, instead of ordering an ipad straight from apple, he has a higher chance of using a Windows pc instead of a mac, and doesnt have that much apple device, thus a useful feature. (I am aware of the sidecar and universal control, which are superior, but i think there are features missing in this comparison).
Im not saying Jonathan intentionally makes the samsung a worse tablet, actually although i do own one, i think the ipad is a better choice for most people, apps behave much better, performance is more than 5 years ahead, in general things just work on ipad. But i think as an apple person presumably for a very long time, Johnathan does not adapt to the (unnecessarily) complicated android settings and features very well and hence does not offer a complete comparison.

Second screen is a blessing while using a windows laptop. I could have my laptop charging on one end of the room while I can continue to work on my tab s7 with full functionality of my laptop. DEX is also really good with a keyboard, I use it during lectures since it's lighter than carrying my laptop while still being very functionality for those purposes. I feel like he's looking into the tab series as an apple person, but as someone who uses PCs and androids all the time, the tab series is honestly really good; it's the bridge connecting the two.

Yes, he showed it that way because his point of a tablet is the portability and ready for use hardware. Hence the whole coffee shop theme. Would you bring a monitor, mouse and keyboard to a coffee shop? No. And for every other environment a laptop is much more useful anyways. This was also mentioned in the video. Don’t even start about Android vs. windows.
Nothing about this had to do with apple, mate.

    • @Dato-64
      @Dato-64 2 роки тому +10

Point 2 is how iPhone apps behave on iPads by default. The question would be, why do I ask users to search for settings instead of making it default and give them the option to turn it off?
Point 3 is just a sad excuse. “Just don’t use landscape” shouldn’t be a thing for a platform that claims user freedom as their main selling point.
As someone watching tech videos and writing comments like these you are already light years deeper into the topic than most android users. People that will NEVER go as deep into any settings. Therefore the out of the box experience matters and that’s what this was about.

There's two big advantages/uses for android tablets that were missed here. You mentioned universal control but completely failed to mention that multiple apps exist to allow your android tablet to be a plugin second monitor for any PC or mac. They can also be used as Bluetooth displays through built in Windows functions, but I think this is less useful than plugging in a single usb-c cable and having a true secondary display that often outperforms most portable displays on the market. You did mention the usefulness of expandable storage but I think you completely skipped on what that can be used for. In my case I use my Galaxy tab S6 lite as a movie storing beast for airplane rides, and general travel. My only other- however more niche gripe- is the lack of emulation options for the iPad without jailbreaking. I think an android tablet with a small Bluetooth controller can replace a Nintendo switch for most people, everything from the Wii downward is easy to emulate and contains a catalog of games that arguably outperform the switch.
Oh and one other thing that I think is completely underrated, the Samsung notes app is legitimately the best note taking app I have ever used, and I say that with great pain usually hating Samsung's design philosophy of tossing every feature at a problem without reason. Their notes app is unrivaled, editing large PDF's with ease, many amazing tools for quick highlighting and shape formatting among other things. And its somehow not bloated- its seriously a gem, if I didn't hate the rest of their software I would use as many of their products as possible to take advantage of the app.

The stylus support for the software is by far the most fine tuned stylus support on any literally on any software i have ever seen in the whole world. The best of all is that you can integrate it with microsoft365's one note and acess features like live time updates and relaunching instances of the app for using different notes at the same time. If I'm out and about I'm using my phone as normal, emails, script reading, staff workboard apps etc... when I'm in the office I pop it on a stand on my desk, plug in a single USB-C to my monitor, and I get a desktop with an auto syncing wireless keyboard and mouse... Now that mobile hardware is reaching desktop class performance, it's actually kind of bizarre seeing Apple treat their tablets like second screens rather than actual computers. It's especially ironic considering their "what's a computer" ad from a few years ago. I genuinely believe that Apple should just put MacOS on the iPad and have it run in a tablet mode that's essentially iPadOS until you dock it or choose to enter desktop mode. Not long ago my laptop broke down and the repairs would take quite a long time. So I had to use my Tab S6 Lite (their cheapest offering with a stylus) as my main computer, along with a Bluetooth keyboard, while travelling.
I brought this tablet because I wanted to read textbooks and ebooks, and take written notes with the s-pen and for that purpose even the cheapest stylus-tablet they had was nice. As a student i didn't really need more. But i didn't keep much expectations going in.
For writing my lab reports, DeX was Honestly a game changer for me. I had 5 pdfs and two browser tabs open, along with Word, and honest to god I'd have spent two hours longer on the assignment if I was unable to alt-tab between windows or window-snap to edges. DeX has things other than being able to Move and Resize windows, but that alone was the most useful takeaway from my experience then.
For most apps, I did what I do on my PC. There's no good Twitter or Facebook app for desktop so I just use the Browser version.
Between browser websites and resizable windows, I didn't really miss my laptop, or even run into the limitations very often. (Once I got used to the screen size and using the stylus as the mouse)

Who would install twitter as an app on desktop? This is how you actually get to use it as desktop app in tablet UI.

Let's take the PREVIOUS gen iPad air 4, 600 dollars with 64gb and 4gb of ram and NO celular options available and compare it with the also PREVIOUS gen Samsung Tab S7. iPad has 60hz display and Samsung has 120hz, 4gb ram vs 8gb ram Samsung, 64gb of storage vs 128 samsung, 4 speakers on Samsung vs 2 and the air... That's head to head, now let's talk about the things Tab S7 has that Air 4 doesn't: Included and more capable S pen, fingerprint unlock, Storage expansion with SD card, celular option included at no extra price, Dex mode extends the display, on air 4 it mirrors it, only in the new M1 iPad it also extends it. Also, S7 is Always on sale, you can get it for 400 bucks, even less... If you want the S7 Plus it comes with an AMOLED display, there are ZERO ipads with AMOLED...So yeah, competition is here, that's not even an argument in most people's minds, but in America Apple has SO much market share people like your father can't even consider getting an Android tablet without being some abnormal thing for you... I'm not trying to hate here, just get some perspective...
And if all those hardware, quality of life improvements and price differences can be overlooked by and Apple fanboy in order for him to choose the iPad, maybe it's reasonable to understand Android guys overlooking an app not being available or not opening in the right orientation for all those benefits.

An artist on a budget. The included S pen on a tab S7 for a price of under $800 was the selling point for me since I had a budget. (Plus the screen size, expandable storage, and the fact that I owned an android phone.) If I wasn't on a budget at the time, I definitely would've gone the iPad route since I own a Macbook. I do have regrets, but not that I could've chosen any differently. But also maybe, the fact that I'm new to the Apple ecosystem is also a heavy factor.
edit// First off, if you're looking for a tablet as an artist, check out Brad Colbow. He does a lot of in-depth reviews on tablets both iOS and Android to help make your decision.
Secondly, replies on why I couldn't have just chosen the iPad Air M1 or why or how $800 can be a budget price... or whatever else strange comments there are below. I'm an artist who deals with 2d work, not 3d so not applicable to me whatever problems come with that. The iPad Air M1 wasn't out yet when I bought my Tab S7. Also, though I know Procreate is a really great app, it's not the end all be all, especially for those who don't like to buy their apps for their first run-through. There is a critical thing you have to consider: what creative apps are available on android vs iPadOS? Procreate, Vectornator, Adobe Fresco/Photoshop/Illustrator, and affinity photos/designer are all nowhere to be found in android, and those apps are all extremely useful for artists, plus the lack of performance on android tablets is just going to drag you down when you’re working in demanding apps, such as nomad sculpt, this 3d sculpting app requires a lot of performance, especially when applying lots of post processing and working on high poly count models, and the SD 8 gen 1 in the Tab S8 ultra is so slow that Chinese android phones can beat it in performance, Snapdragon is just not keeping up with apple silicone at all, they can’t even beat last gen intel mobile chips used in the surface pro tablets. The only exclusive drawing app that are actually useful for artists on android is krita, and unfortunately that app currently is just a bare bone port from pc with interface designed for only desktops, it is very unoptimized for touch, and the app on pc is also unoptimized in terms of performance, I don’t expect it to perform any better on a tablet that performs lower than a current gen android phone, and if you want a tablet below $800, there is still the iPad Air M1 to choose from.

You are right in making this video...in most of your points. I purchased my Samsung S6 8Gb RAM and 256GB of storage for these reasons
    - better price for more storage
    - more ram for better multitasking
    - micro sd expansion that allows up to (I think 2TB- but fact check that)
    - I was shopping during black Friday and Apple did not care about giving me a good deal (the deal was just 100 dollars towards the next Apple product purchase) not $100 off the tablet.
    - I was able to purchase the tablet at Samsung at 430 just being the best price all-around at the time, (not to mention the apple iPad with the same specs was MUCH more expensive still)
    - Lastly, I find that the android operating system gives you much more control and shows you more information at all one time For example it actually tells you without even going into settings what Bluetooth device you have connected. Apple's interface is honestly just too big and blocky, with too many things to tap on to change one setting.

The "shows you more information at all time" is a balance and preference thing. People whose minds are more aligned with Apple's way of thinking tend to prefer a UI that shows you less information at a time if it means it's going to look less cluttered and more visually clean. Android people tend to think otherwise. Different strokes for different folks, although we must all try to stay open minded and look out for what the other person is doing as much as we can, because our preferences also change over time and if you don't stay nimble and get too attached to your way of doing things, you might turn it into a personal thing and think people who don't do things the same way you do it are stupid. You can also see what BT device you're connected to without going into Settings, but as you said you need to tap on more things to see that.
People that have a strong preference (having a strong preference isn't equal to being ignorant) for iPad over an Android tablet (or vice versa) don't really care about the price, they just want an X and are not in the market for other things / the other thing. If I don't see a discount for the iPad, I'm not gonna buy anything else. Sure I would like it to be cheaper, but I'm not gonna whine about it if I can't get it for cheaper. Price is really only a concern for people that are in the middle of the road (and that's not a bad thing, despite this paragraph of mine initially reading as passive aggressive).
Lastly, I would caution to you that Apple iDevices generally offer more performance than what their specs on paper would initially suggest. Mostly because their specs actually *are* impressive, just not on the surface to less technical people. Most people come to the conclusion that Android flagship devices are faster because they have more RAM and score higher in AnTuTu, but many Android OEMs are actually notorious for cheating in such popular benchmarks, and Android needs more RAM to keep the same number of apps open in the background than iOS. And Apple's specs are impressive because their SoCs are class-leading, and when you look at the nitty gritty technical specs of their chips, you see that they're actually unmatched by the likes of Qualcomm, MediaTek, and arm.
Anyway, those are some of my thoughts.
I won't be mad if you don't read it.

    • @DogsAreGods
      @DogsAreGods 2 роки тому +4

@@utubekullanicisi No, I have read your entire paragraph and you do make some excellent valid points. Also, do not be worried about being aggressive or whatever, because I understand that when someone is having a conversation online in text, usually the frame of mind of the reader may be to interpret things on the most negative side before just considering that the other person probably did not mean to be "aggressive, etc". I do agree, under the hood Apple's SOCs, especially with the recent M1 launch are at the point that they are extremely impressive. Dominating all other competitors with Desktop class performance in a Portable, clean, (but still expensive) package. But considering that pads are so powerful that they can do desktop-size tasks, it still is unfortunate to me to see that the iPad is not at MacOS yet. I really think that would be a great sweet spot. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Kullanicisi. :)

RAM works differently on Android and Apple devices (iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, etc). Because Android mostly runs technologies that use garbage collection (technique for clearing stuff from RAM), they actually require lots more RAM just to function without hiccups or slowdowns, whereas all Apple OS use reference counting, which immediately frees RAM as soon as any object is no longer in use and is A LOT faster than garbage collection while also requiring a lot less RAM.
4GB of RAM on an Apple device compares favorably and offers equal or better multitasking than 12GB of RAM on any Android device. 6GB of RAM on Apple devices compares favorably to 16GB of RAM on any Android device. So it's very likely you actually have worse multitasking performance on the S6 with 8GB RAM than you would have with an equivalent iPad, and it will be even worse now with iPadOS 16 which adds virtual memory to the OS, like macOS, which will make the RAM difference even bigger.
There are many reasons Apple doesn't clearly advertise the amount of RAM on their non-Mac devices and it's because it's much more efficient; it doesn't make any sense comparing the RAM on Apple operating systems with Android, the numbers just don't match up.
(Macs are just as efficient with RAM but users expect (and need) to know how much RAM laptops/desktops have, unlike on iPhone/iPad/etc)

Samsung have been using Swap for a while already (and you can set how much you want, up to doubling your RAM). 8GB RAM Samsung tablets, even without swap, keep things in memory almost as well as M1 iPads (and I have both). I think this video needs a sequel. I'm a Tab S7 user, so I don't know how much different the Tab S8 is but I'm guessing not a lot. The Samsung Keyboard comes with split for dual thumb typing for landscape or floating for single finger/pen swipe. If viewing Dex as a supplement rather than a laptop replacement, it makes it pretty compelling.
Dex is just a chromebook when paired with the keyboard folio, or even just a cheap Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It's great for carrying around campus, typing up a quick email or working on Google docs in a laptop environment and not worrying about battery life at the end of the day. Connecting it to a external monitor is great if you want to do couch gaming with a Bluetooth controller. There aren't a lot of games that do utilize it, but there's one category that does: emulators. I've been running Dolphin and PS2 games off of it, and it's great.
The tablet can also be used as a second screen, whether that be through Samsung's Second Screen functionality or the playstore app SuperDisplay, which works over USB. As it's Andriod, when support eventually does end its not hard to put a custom ROM on it, and I'm hoping someone is able to put Windows on ARM on it like the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 has been.
Edit - Also, for apps you didn't like the look of like Twitter, why not just use the website? It can be pinned to the homescreen, and works just fine. I understand it should be native, but it's been working alright for my year of use.

As somebody who one this video is frustraiting, it is so right in some regards but I can tell he's an Apple user an the research wasn't done properly: You can make the keyboard float, split it, resize it and more... also no mention of the free pen with Samsung, and how cheap the s8 has already gotten. And he didn't talk about the second screen feature that works with all Windows computers, Dex's docked mode and Samsung Universal Control clone, that is available on Samsung"s Galaxy Book2 Pro series (Yeas, it's an awful name)
In short: Android tablets can better than iPads in a lot of ways, the problem is you need to know how to make them good, it's far from Apples out of the box and it works.

I spent several months researching and playing with all the models of ipads both A and M series chips, as well as galaxy s tabs both 7 and 8 series. I worked on them on a scenario basis; what apps would i be using if i were to buy that tablet, as well as accessories, and how well I can be productive. Price wasn't a factor for the majority of the time. In the end, I chose the galaxy tab S8, it comes with a pen, it comes with a micro sd slot, i can transfer files easily. Most importantly, i was most productive with it, bc the new Android OS and One UI versions made it so much easier than the tab 7's and the ipads. I use it every single day, almost replacing physical notebooks. i was most comfortable with the pen too, latency is very low. Plus, Samsung offers way better discounts and deals too. Even without the deals and discounts I felt I was getting more of my money's worth than apple's. I was really close to getting my very first apple ipad. Maybe next time.

I mean if you're coming from a notebook, surely something like Samsung DeX, which is like a "Windows knockoff", will be easier to get accustomed to. The question is, should you continue with what you got used to, or try to be more open minded and get used to an interface that suits tablets more? Floating windows is a nice concept for those who prefer it on tablets, but along with that software makers shouldn't bring along all other disadvantages of desktop OSs and UIs to tablets as well. In my opinion Stage Manager on iPadOS 16 seemingly finds this balance the best. You do get floating windows and a desktop OS-like interface, but with just a swipe to the right you can bring back the traditional tablet user interface with the homescreen and fullscreen (or more simple splitscreen) apps, so you don't "boot into" a desktop mode like with DeX. But, it is understandable that you didn't choose iPad at that time because Stage Manager wasn't announced yet.

For me an ipad is not even an option. When I started university a few years back I ended up replacing my old laptop with the tab s5e and it made me completely change my mind on tablets.
The 3 biggest reasons why are:
    1. Expandable storage. Dont think I even need to explain this, there is no upside for consumers to not have it.
    2. Dex. Having a pc interface just made school so much easier, also having mouse, keyboards, usb sticks and usb c docks just being plug and play is really nice.
    3. Proper file managment. I had to transfer files 4 or 5 times a day back then and everything just worked. Apples file manager is the most pathetic one I have ever used, I really dont understand how people can tolerate it.
There is of course more things like proper sideloading but these were the most important ones.

From watching this video, basically your biggest qualms would be that the "Mac/IOS centric" applications aren't available on Android? Of course on top of some other minor things. But wouldn't that just be an issue with Apple's closed wall garden approach to application development and dissemination?
Of course, I do agree that for the performance and feature to the price, the iPads win on a landslide.
When it comes to multitasking in the ipad vs android tablet, reviewers/writers need to first define what do they mean by good multitasking. Is it similar to the ones seen in Windows/MacOS/Linux? If so, then both tablets are far from perfect. I had premium iPads that kill apps as I was multitasking them.

I've been using the Tab S8 for a couple months now, and while I'm a little biased because I haven't used an iPad before, it is hands down the best laptop replacement ever. I use it daily for drawing, playing PS2 games using emulator, remote desktop, and light 3D modelling with Blender. The only real complaints I have so far are just the single USB-C port and yes, the tiny 11" screen.
So far these are the workarounds to some issues mentioned in the video:
To "fix" the portrait mode issue, go to Settings -> Advanced Features -> Labs, select "Auto rotate apps", find the desired app, (e.g. Instagram), then select either "App aspect ratio" or "Full screen". It's not a perfect solution but at least you stay in landscape mode.
To address the terrible keyboard ergonomics, Samsung Keyboard has a Split keyboard mode that makes typing much more enjoyable using two thumbs.
For desktop extension, well, it depends on how you want it done. DeX lets you connect to a vacant monitor, turning it into the tablet's second screen. Samsung Flow can mirror the tablet's screen to a PC in the same wifi network. Second Screen (doesn't work on all PCs) and SuperDisplay (need to shell out $10 for the full version) turn the tablet into Windows' second screen and pen display with working pressure. Some of these solutions are jank af, but hey, at least they work.
For apps, I believe the Play Store has an alternative somewhere. :D

I wish there was a 8 inch tablet with a high end processor and good screen on the android side. I don't want to switch to an ipad because there doesn't seem to be an app like tachiyomi on ios, also I really don't want to have to pay so much for extra storage. I have around 400gbs of manga so really need a micro sd slot. Maybe I'll end up getting that lonovo legion 8 inch gaming tablet eventually, as it's the only thing that comes close to what i need specs wise.

I'm an Android Tablet owner. I have an S7+, before that I had an iPad 2 that I held on to for the longest time. I get why iPads are still good, especially with the whole ecosystem built around Apple devices. I didn't really expect to ever own the Samsung tablets, but after being in the market for one, I'm glad I did. I understand the form factor usage, I mainly use my tablet for reading, media consumption, and other things I don't want to use my phone for. I have my computer for programming and various other things I do both for work and play. My phone, I pretty much try to avoid using when I don't need to, and that's probably why I'm still running a Note 9 this long. (I'm stubborn for an SD card capable phone which is now looking impossible)
However, the Samsung tablets have been quite amazing. Also the recent updates from Android 12 have ruined multi-tasking IMO. It was actually better under Samsung's control when they had it as part of their features that wasn't in Android officially. It was so much easier to implement, but sadly like most things that come to Android later after Samsung users have been enjoying them, they usually get a little worse in the implementation because Google doesn't want to seem like they straight rip off Samsung or something. That's a shame.
I'll leave with one more thing, outside of what both tablets do, I have enjoyed tinkering with Android tablets. If you're willing to explore outside the Play Store (and you really should, there's many communities out there) install F Droid (no rooting required), then install a command line tool like Termux, and you can get Linux distros onto your tablet that work so well. Now when you open your tablet, you can choose between a real 2 in 1 device that goes from Android to your Desktop of choice almost, and enjoy applications on it you couldn't run before. Android is great like that, but I understand you also don't have that with every common user. It just will work off the device without having to jail break or anything.
P.S. Great video, and I am not a salty Android tablet user. I promise, I respect the video diving into it and trying it out. I know why iPad is a great device, and I still will buy one some day just because I miss having it, but I am also not in a rush to jump back.

@@soundguydon Yeah, I have the same problem on some of my old Android phones, the old hardware and software doesn't go well together after a while, some of the stripped down ROMs work better and it's easier to find custom firmware for the more popular tinkering devices like the Nexus/Pixel lines or OnePlus devices, it is quite a bit harder for some other brands, in this regard iPhones and iPads certainly work better with their long software support lives

I think that Johnathan skipped a lot of points that makes S8 a good table, he still has a mindset of using what's given by the manufacturer and not trying to dig deeper into the OS. I don't own either ones but planning on buying an S8 soon since I'm a windows user, having a longer display than the iPad makes more sense when you use M&K or using the tablet as an external monitor, not to mention the aspect ratio of the S8 (16:10) is closer to cinema's aspect ratio (16:9), the iPad aspect ratio is more square (4:3) hence more black bar on top, meaning smaller image. not to say Johnathan doesn't have a point, the iPad truly has better performance and optimization than android and their apps is way better, but let's remember that once you use S8 as a graphics tablet by connecting it to a PC as an external display, it's capability goes way up. Sure, iPad can do the same with sidecar but since S8 has longer display, you'll have more space to put the layer window without intruding too much into drawing area if you're using Photoshop or other drawing software.

Absolutely ANY talk about prices falls short as soon as you consider the SPen being EMR and included in the bundle, plus the Keyboard being a regular in the Tab S deals, along with actual price deals. We are talking of upwards $500 in just extras, and arguably necessary extras for "PRO" devices, + a lot in raw price with other deals.
And yeah, the screen may be small on the regular S, but mind you that's the smallest one, and you've had proper external display on it since long ago so that point was also cheap dude. There's also a few other points which have been said by other comments so I'll not bother.
The IPad has its own charms, and they´re big, I don't deny you that, but just do proper research and analysis if you want to do a "review". "I used this device I have no hope for against my will for just 10 days, come hear my totally not biased review!", you see the problem?
Riley had it coming, and it wasn't only because he ignored Dex, the guy just oozes tablet hate so why bother doing a video? Yours is a little bit more neutral, but still falls short. Actually you know? Just bring an actual user of the featured device to share their experience or their feedback with the issues and questions you may have while producing these videos and they'll be so much better, but just stop it with the "I tried X thing I dread for X minutes/days to see if they're not bad anymore!" videos.

The apps may not be as optimized, but the correct portrait mode split screen, app overlays (calculators should be able to be freely placed and minimized over math homework), along with multi profile support (I go to two schools, both of which use many of the same apps, but different log ins) makes it a great education device.
Also the iPad mini has pretty crap hardware and software for its price. Storage and RAM are on par with phones costing $100, and the screen is worse than many $200 Android phones. As other reviewers noted, the UI is also awful due to terrible scaling on the Mini. I'm hoping that Google's Android tablet push works, as ultimately it's obvious Apple needs competition

I don't know what you're talking about with iPad mini having crap hardware. Your mini might have bad hardware if it's old but the new minis are extremely fast. They have the same chip as the iPhone 13 Pro, just clocked ever so slightly lower & with 30% less RAM. You're not gonna find a more powerful tablet at any price (excluding x86 tablets).
The UI is also not awful, from the beginning the whole purpose of the existence of the iPad mini was to ship the same iPad software as the big model, in a smaller form factor, so the touch targets being smaller is expected (just that some icons do get a little too small from time to time for some people for, say, apps in the dock if you have many apps in the dock). Combine that with the fact that the mini has traditionally had a more pixel dense screen than bigger iPads (324ppi vs. 264ppi of the bigger iPads), and it's clear why the interface is shrunk. In the end it still ends up being an iPad (that is, way more capable than an iPhone in terms of multitasking), while staying 'mini' for an iPad. The screen is also pretty decent, it's your standard Apple IPS panel, and Apple's IPS LCDs are known to be downright the best LCDs in the industry, with far better color control, minimal backlight bleed, and very low reflectivity compared to cheaper LCDs and OLEDs on the market.
iPadOS not supporting multiple users or profiles and Stage Manager not being supported on the mini are definitely true weaknesses though.

    • @whenhen

@@utubekullanicisi I have the iPad mini 6 base model which cost $500. The chipset is fast, but that about all I can say. The iPad has aggressive ram management to compensate for how much they skimp on Ram. That means my Kindle app doesn’t sync in the background as soon as I’m back on Wi-Fi (it does on my Windows computer and Android tablet), so I have to actively open the app to enable other devices to show what page I’m on. All the settings are correct the Amazon troubleshooting guide. Also web pages frequently get killed, causing them to be fully reloaded. That’s probably from Apple suspending background app ram usage to make the low amounts they ship with more palatable.
The lack of 120 Hz and high brightness is a much bigger deal to me than total color accuracy. When it’s a struggle to see text outside (happened to me just today as I was waiting for the train), that’s bad for an iPad focused on portability. It also makes scrolling through manuals, web pages, etc much worse than on a lot of cheaper devices due to how much of a difference 120Hz makes over 60 Hz.
Also, I don’t care about higher PPI if the software can’t compensate for it, especially when all iPads are retina. Webpages usually require me to zoom in just to read text, the pop out keyboard is way too small to comfortably swipe (I’ve made upwards of 30 errors writing this, due to how cramped it is), and a lot of stuff just looks off. If Apple actually had competition in the space, I doubt they would have let these issues go on for so long.

Samsung has something like universal control if you have a galaxy book on you, other than that yes they're definitely behind apple in a lot of ways but for a casual user like me who likes the rubber tip of the S pen more and only uses a tab to read pdfs and maybe annotate them which by the way samsung notes is more than good enough for and the fact there's an instagram app for android tabs makes them a better buy for me.

I absolutely agree with the S Pen feel. My family has a 6th Gen iPad and a S7 FE. The S Pen feels fairly good when writing with it, not as good as an actual pen, but good enough. The Apple Pen just feels like hammering against glass and has no resistance. Not sure if I could adapt to that.
To be fair, both tablets have protective glasses on them, so maybe the iPad feels better without one.

@@Gibom hey i feel the same way when i first tested the apple pencil. some people told me to get the paper cover to make it feel more "paperlike"..i tried that too and it still was just OK...but maybe it was because i've done my art stuff on the note series and due to monetary reasons, i find workarounds a lot to fit my workflow with any device i get.
