@@aqs33 Nice! Yeah, ‘false cord scream’ makes sense. Voice science terminology tends to use ‘fold’ now instead of ‘cord’. (I should have said ‘false vocal fold’.) But what exactly is fry screaming? Can you describe the physiology? Curious.
What is Fry Screaming? First, let's make it clear what I'm talking about here. The term fry screaming comes from the term vocal fry, which is used to describe both the voiceless sound done by closing our vocal folds, and the cracking sound that comes up sometimes when we speak. Even though neither of these things is exactly what we do to scream, the Kim Kardashian voice and the so-called fry scream have something in common: they both comes from the arytenoids, and that's where the name came from. So this will be the definition I'll be using here, screams that are done by distorting your voice with the arytenoids. To make it clear - this is what I'm talking about: ua-cam.com/video/Gd9OhYroLN0/v-deo.html What you need for fry screaming is to find a way to make our arytenoids slap together and rasp to distort your voice. That requires them to be close to each other, but it also requires some room in your glottis for them to vibrate. The trick is finding that balance. Closing your Arytenoids There are two muscles that can close your arytenoids: the LCA and the TIA. Each of them give a different tone to your scream. Being able to control them separately (either to isolate them or to combine them), will give you a lot of flexibility in your scream. The LCA is the muscle that activates when you raise your soft palate. If you're not sure if you can control it, take a flashlight, go to the front of a mirror and yawn. You'll see your soft palate raising. Practice until you're able to sing with your soft palate raised that way. It might take some practice if you're new to vocal technique, don't worry. The TIA is the muscle that activates when you reach the 5th octave. Just do it, the timbre doesn't matter. (if you don't play any instrument, here's a reference ua-cam.com/video/icXUkIfZxyg/v-deo.htmlm24s) You should feel a muscle at the back of your throat being pulled back and upward as you raise the pitch. You'll also notice the shape of your soft palate will change compared to the yawn shape from before. The LCA will give you the so-called power fry tone, which sounds like this. The TIA will give you a more "raspy" and weak distorted tone, which sounds like this. Opening your Arytenoid There's only one muscle that can open your glottis the way we want, the PCA. It is the muscle you use to achieve your whistle voice, if you can do it. If you're a normal human being, like me, try this: close your throat with everything way you can, tense up all the muscle in your neck, and now... take a deep breath. You should feel a muscle opening your larynx that you literally cannot inhale air without moving it. Repeat it a few times until you feel it. That's your PCA. What you need to do is to train your brain to be able to contract your PCA while singing (exhaling air.) But, of course, you need to keep your LCA and/or your TIA strong or your glottis will open too much and you'll not make the sound you're looking for.@@kokovocals

To make it clear - this is what I'm talking about: ua-cam.com/video/Gd9OhYroLN0/v-deo.html
What you need for fry screaming is to find a way to make our arytenoids slap together and rasp to distort your voice. That requires them to be close to each other, but it also requires some room in your glottis for them to vibrate. The trick is finding that balance.
Closing your Arytenoids
There are two muscles that can close your arytenoids: the LCA and the TIA.

The LCA will give you the so-called power fry tone, which sounds like this. The TIA will give you a more "raspy" and weak distorted tone, which sounds like this.
Opening your Arytenoid
There's only one muscle that can open your glottis the way we want, the PCA. It is the muscle you use to achieve your whistle voice, if you can do it. If you're a normal human being, like me, try this: close your throat with everything way you can, tense up all the muscle in your neck, and now... take a deep breath. Is no one talking about the girl who can produce TWO NOTES AT ONCE, can u just take a second and try that yourself 💀
I'm gonna ruin it for you: she's whistling as she sings a note. It's most convincing with people whose registers can get up that high.

Britney Spears is one of the examples, but the power that the girl in the video brought is totally a different thing. Those notes are also quite low

It's actually based on voice crack
It's not tho. Cracks are different and detrimental to the vocal cords
I can yodel just very badly
The best part about Tatiana's singing is she doesn't cup the damn microphone. That's probably the rarest skill in metal vocals.

2:02 for anyone that wants to learn this, she is doing a basic false cord scream (basic doesn’t mean easy, just fundamental). It’s what you’d hear in lots of metal songs. Everyone has false cord, so everyone can do false cord, but it might not sound as deep as her’s.
Vocal fry usually sounds thinner
Do you happen to know what band she sings for? I can’t find it anywhere 😅

This video might be quite old, but it's what inspired me to join choir, also, since my first time watching this video, I can sing using overtones, I can hit an F1, I can hit the high note in Emotions, (I think.. Not only does Tatiana from Jinjer have an amazing growl, but it's so low for a female. I almost can't tell the difference between her and other male growlers in the tenor range.
I think throat singing, growling (vocal fry) overtone and the angelic head voice are some of the coolest sounds/singing humans can do.
Your girlfriend agrees. I made her throat sing after injecting some "zinc lube"
🤣
Kinda sucks that she’s gets a lot of credit when so many women before her did it well. Like Angela Gossow, Otep Shamaya, Alexis Brown… such passion in their voices.
@@ll2323 its suck when many woman before her not use smooth angel voice to sing a "song" . Maybe they can get more notice if they dont use scream voice all the time .
@@rikuhell8076 they also sing and use melody. Again she isn’t the first nor the best.
Believe it or not gender has very little influence over your tone of growl most female growlers I've heard sound way lower than most males
