Exactly. I plod along at my own pace. If I have to get off and push the bike up a hill then I will do so and feel no shame. Pushing a bike up a hill is not easy! I am pleased to see FLAB doing well. I have bought a couple of things from them and it was comfy and good quality. I like their brand and think the owners have got it right. For example, everyone in the office at FLAB goes together for a weekly exercise session in work time, either Monday morning or Friday afternoon. The owners have said they prefer to get everyone actively involved rather than give out discount cards for people to spend in isolation. Every get together is in work time, never in an employee's own time. I think this is very respectful towards their employees.
I've seen their website and seen their stuff. They even have a cake decorated cycling jersey. There is a good amount of irony and sense of humour with their stuff. Pier's logic was the only valid one this time round. The dragons were being too cautious this time round in my opinion
@@Marsalien100 It doesn't really matter because those who would even wear it would be able to laugh at themselves. That's what the whole branding is relying on; overweight people who are cycling/wanting to cycle and who are able to take a joke and laugh at themselves.
I think it's actually quite successful nowadays. I'd heard of the brand before I realised they went on dragons den (I think that's because it's a memorable name).
I like to cycle, I'm not a skinny stick, the normal gear doesn't fit me right and I look silly. I like this product but you need a sence of humour tho.
I don't see the point of all those people buying & wearing that expensive gear when they're not training to compete in something. Be comfortable & wear what you like. & I agree, a sense of humour is a good thing to have in life.
@@msstarlight4770 I used to race, I always tried to wear something over cycling shorts, I highly recommend cycling shorts for long distance for comfort with normal trousers over the top. It's a fashion accessory that isn't needed most of the time, aero is useless unless you have speed and power.
@@msstarlight4770 That's the whole point - COMFORT. Leaving the actual branding aside, you'll be a lot more comfortable in proper cycling apparel than in everyday clothing. Just simple things like not having your trousers caught up in the chain, tucking them into socks ( or worst of all, looking like the local vicar wearing cycle clips!)
It's a shame, because at the core of it they had a good idea, but the dragons were right about the name and having it written all over the clothes. While some would find it funny and empowering, as a brand they can't limit themselves like that.
S S it's like an insult they use I think. I remember when I used to cycle, I watched videos online and people got annoyed with cyclists that jumped lights and rode on pavements. They'd often say they're not actual cyclists but they're MAMILs as an insult and to distance themselves from them
I'm a 9st, 27" waisted cyclist and I'd happily wear FLAB branded clothing. many cyclists aren't hoping to be super-fit competitive riders...they just enjoy riding with a group of mates and have a sense of humour!
maybe cause you are already fit? I'm sorry but some people who are over weight and who are trying to be healthy, would rather try to remain unassuming, they might go for runs and cycle rides earlier in the morning less people round
I didn't think it was necessarily as terrible as they said, there could absolutely be a market to ride the wave of. just bc the dragons tell you it's not good doesn't mean you should automatically ditch the brand. they are a source of great advice on the whole bc they know business, but they might miss it sometimes. i wonder if they got the brand going today out of curiosity, i thought the quirky might be marketable if done right
I don’t care what the dragons say, this was a good idea! I’m not overweight or middle aged, but I need an XL-XXL size for the upper body and it’s a pain in the damn arse and sack finding anything that fits right like this and I’m sorry but the spandex only looks okay on the really slender blokes who shout at you when you are cycling in front of them on the cycle path 👌🏻😂
Because it’s a cycling company, I don’t think having Gym in the name is what they need. Feels more like a plus size only gym rather than a cycling clothing company.
I lost 5 stone proudly cycling in my FLAB kit. When I order more my size comes down and that has been a huge incentive. Before I found FLAB the alternative was cotton gear that absorb sweat, sticks to the skin and stinks to high heaven. It isn't about fashion and looking good, it's about finding kit that fits and does the job and FLAB filled a huge gap in the market. Try riding 60 miles non stop in jeans and t shirt but make sure you carry plenty sterile dressings. Well done FLAB and keep up the good work.
I do agree that active wear for people is harder to find for bigger people. I’m a size 12-14 in the UK and I find stuff ok but I purchased a pair of shorts from sports direct and needed extra large. I have a friend who is a size 16 and she really struggles to get active wear. It’s a bit like saying no anyone overweight can’t exercise when actually there is a reason me and my friend want to exercise.

It’s a really good idea. I’ve always used Castelli gear but they seem to be narrowing the waist more and more so each year the garments get smaller.
Those are horrendous, nothing flattering about them at all.
This is what cyclists wear. It's not supposed to be flattering

I've seen their website and seen their stuff. They even have a cake decorated cycling jersey. There is a good amount of irony and sense of humour with their stuff. Pier's logic was the only valid one this time round. The dragons were being too cautious this time round in my opinion
The brand name is actually just insulting to anyone who wears it.
@@Marsalien100 It's self-deprecating humour.
Seems that the name worked, they are doing really well.
The more I watch these clips the more I realise how out of proportion their sense of their own value and wisdom is.
I’m overweight and I cycle, but there’s no way on earth I’m wearing that branding.
A jest don't gerrit, an for tha reason, am oot.
Lol
They should have signed that “it’s a term of endearment”. BBC loves offensive terms of endearment.
@@msstarlight4770
That's the whole point - COMFORT. Leaving the actual branding aside, you'll be a lot more comfortable in proper cycling apparel than in everyday clothing. Just simple things like not having your trousers caught up in the chain, tucking them into socks ( or worst of all, looking like the local vicar wearing cycle clips!)
@@msstarlight4770 I loved your post and I hope they are doing well.
I agree with Kelly Hoppen.
I wouldn't wear a t shirt saying "scrawny scrote at the front" of anything like that. I'd of been out too.
That’s you though, some would it depends on a person by person basis tbh
You mean the same Kelly who was involved with “Skinny Tan”?
It's a shame, because at the core of it they had a good idea, but the dragons were right about the name and having it written all over the clothes. While some would find it funny and empowering, as a brand they can't limit themselves like that.
They are very successful at the moment tho
They have branded and unbranded items
"...being a MAMIL, otherwise known as a Middle-Aged Man In Lycra."

In their defense, this is a common term among cyclists.
@@SmarkAngel wtf? Why do you people have like a secret language for yourselves?
S S Doesn’t each sport have it’s own terms though ?
S S it's like an insult they use I think. I remember when I used to cycle, I watched videos online and people got annoyed with cyclists that jumped lights and rode on pavements. They'd often say they're not actual cyclists but they're MAMILs as an insult and to distance themselves from them
Kelly: “If you’re fatter, you buy bigger clothes” 😂🤣😂🤣
I'm a 9st, 27" waisted cyclist and I'd happily wear FLAB branded clothing. many cyclists aren't hoping to be super-fit competitive riders...they just enjoy riding with a group of mates and have a sense of humour!

Just checked out their store, their clothes actually look really good!
I didn't think it was necessarily as terrible as they said, there could absolutely be a market to ride the wave of. just bc the dragons tell you it's not good doesn't mean you should automatically ditch the brand. they are a source of great advice on the whole bc they know business, but they might miss it sometimes. i wonder if they got the brand going today out of curiosity, i thought the quirky might be marketable if done right
Yes, it's still going and seems successful.
Gymfat would've been a better name.
No, no it wouldn't have been.
@COMBO ... why?

(I’ve measured, it’s not me getting bigger haha) Even my next in line, Endura, appears to be shrinking. I’ve had luck with Adidas bibs but the pad is a bit crap for my weight.
