It's good to hear that some people are aware of how great Buicks really are. Their engines were torque monsters and very reliable. Buicks just gave you more bang for the buck.
My brother had a 1970 GS Buick convertible with that copper/bronze metallic paint. Beautiful car and rare as well. That was back in the 80s. If we only knew to keep these kind of cars
Sadly we have all done that, but how could we have known
UTG and Dallas have been doing a lot Videos on these Buick engines lately, Dallas is the Wizard GOD of buick!!!
Actually Lunar and Dallas would be a natural combination in that way if not for personality conflicts.
The first buick isn't a 225 but a lasebra that's why it has a 350
Well my sister had a lasebre and it had a 350 but to be honest I hate ya anyway you morons are the reason why us poor folks can't afford any ride but new shit and I wouldn't take that new shit if the good Lord handed it all to me
Fellas it’s a Buick LeSabre!

your absolutely correct, i caught that to
She's a beauty! You have a great collection there. That old Caddy is special too.
remember the reverse lights on these cars were also red tail lights - there is a red lens inside the outer lens for this.. be careful when removing the outer lenses and chrome bezels so as not to lose any of these small pieces that would be next to impossible to replace
IM 63 and i started driving on a three on the tree ford pu at nine, had a learners permit at 14 and a drivers lic the day i turned 16. Started selling cars in 81 and soon learned that you made more money in your driveway than on commission for a dealer. I'd get the newpaper at one in the morning and find a few prospects that seemed like a deal. Im not a mechanic but I just learned to fix things as I found them , with old Clymer manuals or asking at the wrecking yard. Back in the day these cars were so cheap I bought and sold a 69 Camaro 4sp, 68 Firebird, 66 Malibu , 67 Chevelle, 73 Monte Carlo 454, 81 Z28 4sp, and so on and so on , all my friends in HIgh school had amazing cars cuz they were so cheap , there was a 70 Impala SS 427 in our high sch, a 70 Cuda 383 4sp etc etc etc muscle cars everywhere. This was my hobby my fun and income as well I'd buy a car with a few problems , figure out how to fix it , change all the fluids detail it and sell it.
Damn I wish I'd kept one , I drove a 57 Chev 210 2dr post to grade 12 . Never had the money to keep one I just kept flipping them . so I love these videos brings back so many memories. My buddy had a bone stock 76 Transam 400 that would wrap the speedo around past the 120 to an estimated 140 mph. The tales I could tell. EVen stole a 58 Corvette 327 4sp one night , long story , I couldnt resist driving it , I had to drive it so I frikkin stole it. I "borrowed " a 308 GTI out of our dealership one night they left the keys in it, big mistake. never got it out of second gear , it was nuts.
Speaking about the poor roof prep it came from the factory with a vinyl top so they really didn’t do very much prep underneath of it they put lid on that same and that was it bro back in the day where is my dad says sometimes back in the boonies
She did clean up pretty good, and I'm glad that you're ready for the issues that come with older cars. Would've been nice to snag a 2nd 455 though.
I was really hoping to grab a2nd 455 but it wasn’t meant to be today
I had a 75 Buick Electra Limited with the 455 and had the terrible compression this was around 2012, I had the motor reworked to make it more in line with a 70, and believe it or not A Guy from Saudi Arabia called me about it and wanted to buy it and ship it to Saudi Arabia, he offered me a price I could not refuse. I really hope you put her back on the road, I drove mine for 2 years and I have never owned a car that rode so smooth, had such power, was so long and weighed so much. My favorite part was in the back seats in the armrests were ashtrays AND lighters, Pure luxury for 1975.. I miss her immensely and am looking for another
hey buford info at a glance you can the difference in a 350 to 455 to simple a 350 has 3 ribs on valve cover 455 has 4 easy as pie
Count the valve cover bolts: five for the 400-430-455 vs. six for the 350.
thatr is a Lesabre not and electra..hence the 350
The white Buick on the junkyard with the 350 is a LeSabre, not Electra.
Omg! Go copper! That would look sick! Very cool car man!
430 head swap!!! Not hard to do and lots of compression. Best BBB flowing head! I would love to see it!!
And check the 67 for the switch pitch transmission!
I came here to tell you that the Buick in the junkyard is a Lesabre but I see that you have been well schooled on that already! The other thing is that all of the body and paint work that you're saying is poor workmanship is probably forty years old! As far as the filler cracking out of the left rear quarter panel it may have been hit from the backside by stuff in the trunk to loosen it up and let the moisture in and cause it to rust and crack out, The glue on moulding that is peeling off of the car isn't factory installed, It's either dealer or the owner installed it, That moulding comes in rolls and you cut it to length for each panel as you install it, I haven't bought any for a long time but you can probably still get it somewhere, I always got it at the local body shop supply store like Sherwin Williams or PPG. Another thing that the dealers and body shops did that was popular back in the day was pin striping. It came in 150 foot rolls, the most popular size was 1/8 paired with 1/16 with 1/8 margin between them, Back to the condition of the car, It was in the worst possible place to be parked for all of that time! Short of being underwater! Pine sap and pine needles fill every crack and crevice and they will eat a car apart! So far it looks like you really lucked out! If the frame is solid and the body mounts are still good your golden, The first mounts to go was always the ones right behind the rear wheels, The mount and trunk floor would rot away but but it's easy enough to build it back in as you can access it from underneath and inside the trunk. Since you have researched the Buick 455 so much I assume that you know you have in your possession the engine known as the ''Hemi Killer''! The only difference is you don't have the Stage one heads, But the heads you have are the same casting! Just bigger valves and ports and you seem to love porting heads and I'm sure you know of a shop with the capability to install bigger valves and seats, Or that makes aluminum heads that are even better than the stage ones! Check out Uncle Tony and Dallas' video's on Buick heads tonight! If you haven't already, You'll love it! You are planning to make the Electra your family cruiser, If I was sitting where you are I would plunk the LS down in the Electra and build the GS into a ''Hemi Killer''! I used to have the issue of Muscle Car Review that had the comparison of the Hemi And the 455 and it was epic! Please don't get angry with me for talking to you about doing the GS into an original BEAST of a muscle car, My ex wife and I stumbled into a flame orange with black top and bucket seat interior 1972 Buick GS 350 after being told about a little Buick Special an old lady had for sale when she needed a car! I couldn't believe it! The little old lady had a GS! I bought 3 parts cars and got a tilt column, cruise control, rear defog, posi track, rear stablizer bar with boxed control arms and power windows and put in it and repainted it with base clear eurathane and found a 455 to put in it to complete the package and then lost it and the Monte Carlo I bought and redid for her so the GS would be her nice weather only car in a divorce! To be honest I didn't miss her a bit but I missed the GS! I still had the Electra with the 455 but I got an offer to good to refuse that paid a lot of bills I got stuck with during the divorce! That GS was an awesome car decked out with all of the options I put in it and the 350 was no slouch but it would have been a beast with the 455!
Oh ya Hemi killer!🤘😎🤘 I was really disappointed when I bought my GS it was badged as stage stage one and he said it was an original air car I couldn’t get the hood open so I trusted the seller. Unfortunately I got hoodwinked. It had an accident an it was very poorly put back together, and the air conditioning was definitely added by someone with tinsnips lol. TA performance has a set of really awesome aluminum heads that would be great. I always appreciate peoples feedback, and constructive criticism so no apology required.
@@LunarOutlawsGarage I wish i had pictures of the GS My ex and I had! I had loaded it up with all of the options I could find, Buying whole cars to get the options out of them, The car was cool as hell to drive, I was building it right after the Hemi killer article came out so I was obsessed with building one! It made me sick that I had to let her have both of those cars to get the divorce through! She came to me with the clothes on her back and left with the Buick and an almost new Monte Carlo that I bought damaged at the dealership I worked for and rebuilt it into a better looking than new car with the basecoat clearcoat paint cut and buffed to perfection! I got both of hers done and had bought a damaged 78 Grand Prix LJ that was loaded with options, It only had a 301 but it was the smoothest running and driving ''G'' body I ever owned I was building it for me and she got mad because I was building myself a car so she hid the cars, drained the bank account and left! Like I said the Buick GS was the only thing I missed, Then about a year later she got a boyfriend and let him drive the GS and he wrecked it and then dumped her! I just look at yours and it's so close to the one I had and I see ''Hemi killer"" all over again! I know that no matter what you do to it you will do it first class!
Quick and easy way to verify 350-455 is the number of valve cover bolts. 350 has six bolts, the 400-430-455 have five.
Yes Buick did indeed build some marvelous vehicles back in the day; that is why I've owned five of them. Not at all like the Chinese made crap they sell now.
Funny you mention the Chinese….they love Buick’s !
That rear window and roof is tough. You may have to just lay down a coat of epoxy resin to fill in those holes and slather some Bondo on top of it to make it look presentable.
the salvage yard car is a LeSabre - 455 was optional on these models 350 was standard
I watch a ton of these vids and still can't believe these guys touch everything with no gloves and crawl in and out of these vehicles skin exposed. EWWWWW, lol!!! But i love watching them bring these classics back.
How do u get titles for these cars if abandoned?..I know of alot hidden gems in the mountains, but always put off by title issues...some states are more strict than others..
As far as New York goes as long as it’s been registered in New York at one point it’s not too hard to do.
I know with the 1971GS I had to go through an attorney to be able to lock it down. sometimes are more complicated than others
I had a 1966 Buick Electra225, had the 401 4bbl nail head engine, turbo 400 transmission 4 door I loved that car but I had too many at the time, like 6 and my wife said so.ething had to go, unfortunately the Buick got the boot, the guy that bought it kept it about 6 years before he sold it.
nice, i had a 1965 225 back in the day.....
Your junkyard find is just a Le Sabre.
Yup for some reason I was thinking they had already gone to the 71 bumper for the LeSabre
I need that Cadillac hood
People love to talk about modern cars and how great they are. They even lie and say they're more comfortable. People under 40 believe the BS. It's sad.
I had a convertible Electra. It was like riding down the road on a couch. Just wonderful. Tons of room in the back. No one in those old cars had to worry about their knees hitting the seat in front of them.
Modern cars ride like they have steel casters. You can't run over a BB without feeling it. They corner with less roll? Who cares? Life isn't a slalom. That old Buick took the bumps for its occupants.
ABS, air bags, and crumple zones are important. No doubt about it. Other than that, modern cars are a huge step backward.
Love builds I want one bad
I’ve been in search of a 1967 Buick 225. Is the one you have available for sale?
Sadly the only thing really left of it is firewall forward. They had put another vehicle on top of it at some point
Is that Bronco worth saving?
Wow / you really must clean your yard up !!!!!! Too much trash laying all around it 😞😞😞
455 has 5 bolt valve covers 350 has 6...
100% And the number of ribs on the Valve covers are different.

Great video! Always love a good trip to the salvage yard! Man, ya'll are so lucky to not have poisonous snakes up there! We have to deal with rattlesnakes and copperheads down here unfortunately plus the ticks too!
I really like going to the salvage yard but I prefer going from late fall to early spring.
Dang man. Yeah Venomous snakes up here are incredibly rare there are two species but you never see them. Unfortunately our ticks Have two deadly pathogens which is frustrating.
here is the colour i think it should be root beer brown with a pistachio green top

All front-end trim the same and probably wheel opening and rocker panel moldings will also interchange

Two tone copper and root beer
That '70 in the junkyard is a '70 LeSabre. That's why it's got the 350. Grille is different as well.
Yup I have been corrected a few times. I appreciate you feed back. For some reason I was thinking they had switched over the 71 style grill and bumper.
@@LunarOutlawsGarage I am a moderator on Facebook for the "1970's Great Amercian Land Yacht" group. I've owned nearly everything from the 70's besides the high end muscle cars. I had a '70 GS 455 too. It was Diplomat Blue and came from Connecticut via Oregon. I currently own a '70 Caprice 2 door with a factory LS5 454 and a '72 U code 455 Cutlass Supreme. My name is Jason. Had an article come out about 5 years on bestride.com called "The Car Whisperer". Never know whose checkin' out your channel. ;)
That is awesome man 🤘. I am new to the full size cars; I grew up owning the a bunch of A70 Supras, but I always wanted to get a muscle car. Earlier this year, I took home a 1963 Cadillac Coupe Deville, and after taking that on a 12-13 hr road trip, I was incredibly impressed with how it performed. It was like a well built bass boat, not like the modern boring land yachts. I am looking forward to making this my family road trip car. I really do enjoy all kinds of cars, from muscle to imports, but the older I get, the more comfortable performance impresses me.
They also made a Wildcat that's based on the LeSabre the grille is different from the LeSabre and it has a 455 in it.
@@daltonhanleyjr4142 1970 was the last year for the Wildcat, for model year 1971 Buick introduced the Centurion to replace the Wildcat. The Wildcat came without Ventiports, just like the 1971-1972-1973 Centurion.
The junkyard Buick you keep referring to as an Electra is actually a LeSabre! Take a look around the car and you'll see it is the much smaller "B" body and has an entirely different rear end. Also, any remaining badges should have been a clue in addition to the 350.
Yeah someone already corrected that thank you. I for some reason thinking they had already gone to the 71 era bumper on the Lasabre and there was no badges remaining
The light blue car is a Buick LeSabre which is why it has a 350 engine.
Why don't you fix what little rust there is and put a new vinyl top back on? That will reduce your work load by a lot. In order to weld the holes on the roof, you are going to have to remove the head liner which means buying a new one. I would avoid all of that.
As much hassle vinyl tops are, they just look right on cars of that age. At least the roof was painted and not too bad under the vinyl. Chrysler didn't paint the roofs on theirs. An Imperial of that era usually has serious rust at both the windshield and rear glass areas that require quite a bit of work to fix.
4doorseat won't work in 2 door top part does not fold to let people in the back seat
The car in the bushes looks like a Lesabre (from the c pillar) plus I don't think Electras were sedans (b pillar) back then.
That was probably a cheap Earl Scheib paint job from the late 70's
Agreed! As far as I know, Electras in 1970 only came with a 455. They were the top of Buick's line.
thats not an electra the 4 door car thats a lesabre. you can tell by the roof line. 455 has 5 bolts in valve cover 350 has 6.
Great call man I forgot they had that bumper on the 1970 for some reason I thought they had gone to the 71 bumper style in 1970.
@@LunarOutlawsGarage no all 70 big buick cars had that front clip minis a riviera. 70 was the last year of the wildcat however. that 67 if it was 430 would be a wildcat as the lesabres all had small blocks from 64-69. the 455 was offered in 70. that 350 though is a high comp unit so it would one worth getting. after 70 the cr dropped to 8.5. also that prob is the factory color on your electra. its always lighter than the book. you could tell by the fire wall and jams. i like that a color my grandpas 69 lesabre and 72 electra both where that color. the one piece of sheet metal need on the window channel should be the same on a 98 olds. idk if a repop is made but that looks to be an easy patch. lastly you can use the electric seat frame with the manual seat body that all unbolts from each other.
Unfortunately the only thing really left of the 67 is in front of the dashboard the whole top of the car is crushed because they put another vehicle on it at some point
@@LunarOutlawsGarage yeah it looks rough. maybe could salvage the front clip thats about it.
I wish i would have seen this video earlier.
Thats a LeSabre. That trunk lid wont fit b3cause the Electra is a C body and has a formal roof Olds/Cadillac/Buick with a different tail light panel. The LeSabre is a B body and has the lower Chevrolet/ Pontiac body.
Original vinyl tops on the Buick had 2 seams 1 on the left side one on the right side same for the GS if it was replaced it would have a single seam down the Middle
LeSabres could be had with a 350. Get on the internet and find the seat parts new/repro. Please do not put a man seat in. Learn vehicles before speaking of them. That Cadillac would have had a 472, not a 500.
You're looking at a Buick LeSabre that's why it has the 350 which was standard in the LeSabre a lower trim than the Electra. Hope you find one.
The junk yard car looks like a LaSabre. That comes with a 350
It doesn't look like a LeSabre, it IS a LeSabre. Count the Ventiports...
Clearly LeSabre.
@@badboattailRight leSabre had three electra's had four
Looking at the back of the junk yard Buick would have answered all your questions immediately.
If you know how to count: LeSabre = 3 Ventiports, Electra = 4 Ventiports. No need to walk all the way to the back to discover that the LeSabre emblem is long gone....
Without delay, clean and protect the latches etc for the fender skirts. They *will* get very crusty and need it, (Also take wheels off and look first from behind. Rust may be all that holds them on.) (Also, yeah, grey primer under the little pockmarks is a dead giveaway that's not a factory paint job, even if that copper-bronze is a real color from then. The color they painted over with is also a real color, probably what was fresh then. ) (And unless you happen to find quality wheel covers you can polish, find some decent wire wheels or something. That'd be period for a lot of styles. Also chrome steelies, especially smoothies with Baby Moons, might be better than trying to hunt down the correct blandness anyway. :)
First paint color on your phone looks more like the correct color !
Hi from New Zealand yes thats a cool ride needs some TLC and its all good. Here in NZ we have some Buicks and Ive seen one of these cruising around. Nice full size cars.
She needs quite a bit of love but she has great bones. Buick really made some great looking car is back in the day

In the past I drag raced buicks you can check but if memory serves you can take the heads off a buick 430. they have the same casting numbers as the 455 gs stage 1 heads just have to pocket port around the valves and change to the stage 1 valves. these heads have very small conbuston chambers.
You can use the 430 heads but you have to block the oil from feeding through the rocker assembly. The 430 on a 71 or newer for 55 would be a great swap but in 1970 the valves and combustion chambers are the same as the 430. You’re better off increasing the size of the valves and doing a port job on a 70 head. It must’ve been a lot of fun drag racing Buicks they can be monster.
These vehicles came with
Engine:
401 cu in (6.6 L) Nailhead V8
425 cu in (7.0 L) Nailhead V8
430 cu in (7.0 L) Buick V8
455 cu in (7.5 L) Buick V8
None came with a 350 though the air cleaner from a 350 is similar to the 401's not sure though
The Fourth Gen's 71-76 offered a 350* in them
The 1970 LeSabre came with a 350 Buick, the 455 was optional. Your list is something you found on the internet...?

I meet him last year. He is truly an incredible wealth of knowledge.
My dad was military, remember when we lived in MA, NH, NY and Ohio...a lot of people had a "Summer" car and a "Winter" car. The winter versions had street sign floorboards, long screws with fiberglass and/or bondo quarter panel bottoms, roof tar-slathered undersides, and exhaust systems that were pieced together with auto part store exhaust bits or worse
That hearse, 1970, had a 472, not a 500 from the factory. If you get a chance, can you get some pictures of the hearse so I can see which coach company made it?
Why did you stop working on the Dodge truck??
Waiting on the custom wiring harness the goal is to make it as OEM looking as possible
What an absolute monster. I get what you're saying about big body cars. I wasnt into them until i got a bit older. There's just something about 60's big body, 2 door cars like Buick's and Cadillac's from the 50's and 60's. They've got soul.
100% man they just have something that is hard to describe
I have severe back and neck issues and for me a big old boat like an Electra, Olds 98, Chrysler is the only way to go. For some reason riding in a car with a stiff suspension just isn't much fun when you have 15 bad discs in your back and neck.
