The Ford Probe went pfffft! at about 45:00 in the video. That car did that a lot.
Here's another good example of how ridiculous the modern "We've got to slow the cars down!" attitude in motorsports is; a chicane is thrown into the middle of a huge straight for the stated purpose of making the race "safer", and not only does it make the racing boring but it actually makes it *more* dangerous. The greatest danger to the drivers are the regulators.
"...the Bus Stop at Daytona is fine."
Fine relative to what? The same section but without a chicane? I doubt that chopping up a straightaway with sharp corners is going to improve safety, especially for endurance races, where drivers are racing around the clock and have explicitly complained about chicanes. So it's probably not "fine", which is hardly a strong compliment to begin with.
Of course, there's the financial impact too: the chicane-happy attitude is the same one that quadrupled the length of the rule book since the '90s and drove sportscar racing into the ground. As an isolated incident, chicanes being planted everywhere is counter-productive and boring, and as a part of the larger issue of sportscar racing's ultra-bureaucratic state, it makes me want to puke. That's probably why the Daytona 24h attracted a whopping audience of 500 on UA-cam this year and IMSA is sponsored by a floor mat company....
I like this course better than the one that CMS is proposing for the 2018 Bank of America 500.
Superb upload, thank you so much!
