      An implant is not a service by itself, but it could use one (though that's a terrible idea). Think pacemakers: no ToS there!

      I envision that the "Elon Bad" bots are in full force for anything Elon is in. He's not perfect for sure but then who is? His work on BCIs may even become his defining legacy if space exploration doesn't pick off in the next ~30 years. I have a feeling that BCIs might even leap frog LUIs (language user interfaces) for much of our technology interfacing in time

      they are probably far-leftists who just hate him because he bought their propaganda-machine style twitter, and because he is rich. they usually have absolutely no idea about anything while implying Elon is wrong or ignorant. they fully believe the last two test flights of Starship were complete failures (but I suppose it's just a projection of themselves).
      Now there are a lot of things Elon could be criticized for, but Neuralink? Nah. Even the accusations about animal abuse there were malicious manipulations, or outright lies. Well I'm sure these same people who yell about the need to combat "misinformation" were just as concerned about the welfare of animals on whom vaccines were tested.

      This is pretty new territory for biotech. There have been other BCI products, BrainGate (I think that's the name) for example. But as far as I know, this may be the first time a tech company has had a long term vision of a BCI that gets better through iterative models. I guarantee that there will be a point where this version will be inferior to future versions. However, I do firmly believe that legacy support for earlier models will always be available to maintain functionality at least. I don't know if this is a legally protected fact, but I do think that it will be the case. Elon is a weirdo, and very opinionated and polarizing. But he is a pretty intelligent person in some ways, and he is certainly not without humanity. I used to be a fanboy, without questioning his statements. Now, yeah, I don't like him on a personal level. I don't think we would agree on many political/social issues. But I can't deny that he gets results in the way of tech, and I do believe that he does this because of his love for humanity, and is concerned for the survival of humans. We have different views on what is or is not an existential threat at this time, but we do share the same sentiment.
      TLDR; Idk. Probably yeah.
      Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

      In one interview, the dude helping him was saying that he can opt out, or leave it in, at the end of the year. And they’re also looking at adding other chips to him. So targeting one on his other hand, I think they mentioned that here.
      Right now it seems like they’re trying to as much for him as possible. Even keep him further on the bleeding edge than others.

    So once this is consumer ready, I definitely will be getting one, tying it into my smart-home technology, and think about how great it would be if my Optimus bot, went into the kitchen and made me my favorite meal. Then without saying a word, or doing anything more than simply just wanting that to happen, I simply decide that to happen, the oven in the kitchen turns on to the needed temp to cook my meal as Optimus starts to move towards the refrigerator, and so on.

    "...write..." electrical signals.
    This is not the neuralink we are looking for.

    • @Lukex375
      @Lukex375 21 день тому

      It isn't read/write in a computational sense- but a biological sense. It can read signals from brain and hence brain can interact with the device to 'cause' or 'write' is what he meant. It isn't that a bluetooth connection can access the chip and write anything to it. Right now that's what this is and also if upgrades become feasible and safe we would never need to write anything directly to the chip other than during creation, and by default make it incapable (physically with specific electronic wiring) of being accessed in an inbound direction. So unless you have direct physical access to the chip like before the implant or I guess if you hostage the dude... Basically, hacking this thing would be impossible wirelessly and physically would require that you know it's even there for one, physical access, and also insane specific technical, electronic and code skill. So in essence: it ain't gonna happen.

    • @LaserGuidedLoogie
      @LaserGuidedLoogie 21 день тому

      @@Lukex375 I understand. When he said that it would require feedback, I realized that you would needs some kind of write capability. However, I started out as a hacker many many moons ago, and I can already see how it might end up going wrong. There are already techniques for bypassing air gaps on non-networked systems. I understand the basic science of it, but not all the technical details, but I know for sure it's been done. I would love to see this technology do some good in the world, but a lot of times the people who are good at putting stuff together don't consider all the ways something can be taken apart.

    • @Lukex375
      @Lukex375 20 днів тому +1

      @@LaserGuidedLoogie Yeah I completely agree, especially when there's a financial incentive involved. At least they aren't really arms-racing though since there aren't really any other competitors, but that does make them practically a monopoly. It's a highly experimental trans-humanistic tech so there are a lot of facets and ethics to consider, but they do have a lot of PhDs on the team and just his immediate team with him seem to have a very good grasp of what they're doing (definitely more than Elon himself lol, but I get it, he has to be everywhere and all that). The hackability should definitely be a huge question that everyone is asking, yet surprisingly no one did in the Q&A session so that is a bit weird/worrying despite how obvious of a question it seems to be.

    Great review overall, amazing tech. Not sure about the decision to explain the device by the output in bits over a day (1 bit per second over a day) @11:35 defies logic. We don't describe bit rates as number of bits per second divided over 24 hours. We describe bit rates "per second". I just don't see the point of obfuscating the actual rate this way.
    Overall tho, the device and the technology as well as the people working on it, are amazing. This has the potential to help many many people.

    Telepathy could allow Neuralinked people to communicate through the link to others and external devices. I can not imagine a more pervasive invasion of privacy than showing the world my every thought. And if others are connected to the Neuralink network, how are they going to keep other people from controlling my devices, limbs, and senses, or putting ideas in my head?

    Give people super powers? Unless you have total control of the device without any outsider being able tamper with it, it gives those who might have access to it like governments/corporations control.

    Is it dangerous? Yes, extremely so. That's why it takes decades of trials.

    If they can read your thoughts , they can likely, some day send , then control your thoughts. I wrote the Sci Fi story The Memory Coin where the device of the future controlled by AI and it could control and people hacked your memories. It's a fun read and available on Amazon. Someday I hope it will be a movie. The way AI video is going I may make it with AI. Thanks Wes!
