@@blackmamba3429 Yes, emotions are subjective, but so is your judgement on her vocal because what you perceive about someone's voice is the combination of both objectivity (is it the right note? right pitch?) and subjectivity (how does the sound makes you feel). It doesn't make you feel emotional? That's okay. But I and many people personally feel very related to the emotion she brought, more than any other singers, that's why we say we love her because her singing is very emotional.

I weirdly found Hurt is one of the simplest from her to sing technically. Unlike The Voice Within for example, or Ain't No Other Man, or other ballads like Understand, or Mercy On Me, or even You Lost Me. Wait. The list goes on.

@@bokanot8105 maybe it's because the riffs and runs here are not as difficult as in her other songs. The vocal range is also pretty friendly here, compared to other ballads of hers.

I agree. The emotion might make it difficult and the fact that there’s so many belting notes. Most of the song is belting then it ends with the falsetto notes which is hard especially after belting nearly an entire song. You can’t tell this song is harder for her compared to others based on the performances, but the other songs seem more fun to perform.

Never really watched the video clip until a year ago, so never know the story or any meaning of this song, when i sang it in a karaoke room and that's the first time watched the clip and, just suddenly tears fell down my face. Don't even know why i cried, couldn't finish the song. When it's ended then realized, i was thinking about dad 😭

Hurt is hard because she is not using the right method. Don't get me wrong. I love her so much. But she kinda pushed herself to sing in an aggressive way to pull that unique tone we all love. It's a hit or miss sometimes.
She even said herself that "Hurt" is difficult to sing for her..

I dun understand why. Technically theres just belting and its only on her midrange. The chorus is not even on her upper register. And its a slow ballad there's room for breath control. For someone like christina to find this difficult makes me wonder.

Yes. That song is super hard. And I think that the singer HAS TO TELL THE STORY FIRST. This is why Christina always performed the song with such ease because she IS connected to the story. Plus her voice is so heavy that the belting parts really sound like she’s hurt. She’s amazing and I wish she could release more meaningful songs like this one.

The thing is that no one can make a better performance than a singer with its own song. I mean, she gave it the notes, the runs, the riffs, etc and the song fits perfect with her voice
I think it's hard because of the changing textures, the type of voices from chest to falsetto back to chest and then head voice. Also the low notes are very clear and powerful. And it's one of her most beautiful songs

She can't anymore.
She never will be able to. She's exhausted her voice. She's destroyed it. She needs to relax a bit. All of live performances lately have been so flat. And her belts are so strained and nasally..
You can tell her vocal chords are shot
Age has taken a toll and ofcourse her disastrous technique! She is still able to manage the lower parts of the song, but the higher parts are a killer for her...either she lips it or she transposes into a lower key or she just talks that part of the song in an emotional way to cover the inability to hit it.
Apart from the E5 I think it would be possible for her to sing this again and do a great job of it too, recently her voice has been alot more consistant and her vocal rest has really helped, clearly she's getting vocal coaching or something as she's improving in leaps and bounds, look at her most recent performance of The Christmas Song.
Probably she can.... But She need to relaxed her voice more practice to this song... This song is very hard to sing a lot of power and breathing but the emotion of this song xtina can do forever she has the great emotion.. She is a story teller too..

My favorite song of all. Her voice is so touching an passionate!!! Not only the vocals so hard to do, but the emotional feelings she puts into it has to be so taxing!!! Since I lost my husband to Lewy Body Dementia. I’d give anything to turn back time 😢🙏🙏🧡

I love Christina, her voice is so beautiful and distinct.
Overall this song is really difficult but the fact that after all the belts and high register singing she does, the last chorus is done in smooth falsetto. It requires a lot of stamina to adjust to the tempo of the song. I've heard a lot of covers of Hurt and i noticed that even the best ones seemed to be struggling to sing the last chorus with ease.
I wish I could sing like this, and this song would be amazing.

My favorite song by her. It hurts my feelings everytime..but in a way you need sometimes. We all have someone in our lives we could associate with this song. Certain lines brings certain people to mind for me. Good music like this is universal.

I notice she doesn't like to sing a lot of her (arguably best) ballads such as "I Turn to You" (from her debute), "Soar" (from "Stripped"), among many others. This one is kinda odd though because she doesn't have to belt too high (relatively speaking).
The Belts in "Hurt" max out at a D5, while the the belts from "I Turn to You" max out at an F5 (in the original key). I am not sure how high the highest belts in "Soar" are, but they are definitely above an Eb5.
She could just dodge the higher belts tbh, like she does in "Beautiful" were the highest belt in the song is a G5, but she has never sang those super high belts in "Beautiful" live.
Tbh, I just think she doesn't like to sing certain ballads too much, because dynamics don't seen to be too much of an issue for her role pull off live. Just my thoughts though. Excellent vedio as usual! 👍😉🔥💥

I think Soar peaks at F5 which she did several times. Not to mention the whistle. I agree, I don't find Hurt to be that difficult. Definitely way easier than most of her songs from Stripped.

She just says it is "really hard" to make a better excuse to not to have to sing it in her concerts.
It also has to do with a father-daughter relationship, which wouldn't sit well with feminists now days...
@@eliletts5158 I tried to sing Hurt and it indeed very demanding vocally. It required you to switch between chest voice and falsetto seamlessly and constantly belt at the top of your range while also adding vibrato and runs, which required incredible breathe control.
Oh btw can we talk about the note she always skips? I think she can hit it but for some reasons she never does it

Sing an E5 is hard for her, even more if that note is phrased like here "I would TELL(E5) you how..." that's why she skips that note

In my opinion, "mercy on me" is more harder than hurt because she has never performed it. Even she said that once. But both are great songs. :)

Not my number one artist but I have always been impressed by her vocal prowess. She is arguably one of the most talented singer of her generation. I'll take a risk and mention some other artists with stunning abilities : Ariana Grande, Jessie J, and Faouzia.

A lot of her songs are composed specifically to only sound good when she sings them. This song has a lot of highs and lows and requires a lot of emotion to be put into it. Sure, you can tweak it to be sung normally and easier, but would it then be an Xtina song?

Christina is an incredible vocalist..one of the best in the world in my opinion, but in these clips I hear a lot of auto tune. You can hear the metallic sounding voice and a couple parts when it was trying to hard to correct pitch.

It's not a hard song technically, friendly range for mezzos and sopranos. Hell, I'm a baritone and if I take it down an octave keeping the original tone, it's super comfortable.
That makes me feel better that even Christina finds this song hard. 😂 I love that song but it is a total bitch to sing it.
