    What depth exam are you going to be taking after April?

      Transportation

      Structural. I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, so this should be interesting.

    This makes things SO MUCH EASIER. As a Civil Transportation engineer, being tested on Water Resources stuff was ridiculous. Especially since the reason I picked Transpo was because I didn't want to do Water. NOw the test makes sense for what I actually do at work. So now much easier to pass.

    • @CivilEngAcademy
      @CivilEngAcademy  Місяць тому

      @@kamaniaray totally understandable. Just know there's still water resources stuff in the tranpo specs. They mix and match all the time but hydrology and hydraulics are still there waiting for ya under drainage. You've got this!

    I don’t understand why they keep changing this exam, it very frustrating because it takes too long to prepare for this exam.

    • @CivilEngAcademy
      @CivilEngAcademy  Рік тому +5

      They try to keep things timely and on par with industry trends but it is annoying to change an engineering exam every 5 years or so years. It's costly on all fronts.

    What’s frustrating is some state boards have limits on the number of times you can attempt the exam. If they continue changing the exam between attempts, that doesn’t accurately reflect their ability and is working against the test taker who has decided they will continue trying no matter what.

    • @CivilEngAcademy
      @CivilEngAcademy  11 місяців тому

      @@ibnzuhr8722 nope... Just more of it! I would imaging it's still easier and harder type questions and plenty of theory type questions. The same as it is... Just more related to the topic you choose.

    Took the exam in March and unfortunately I did not pass. While it is disappointing and bums me out at least now I only have to worry about studying for one discipline. I took Water and Environmental this time, but passed on my results I didn't do so well for the in depth questions so I may consider switching to another, however I really don't have real life experience in those other areas of civil engineering, other then construction and I have been told my others that they made a mistake choosing construction.
    Suggestions? Should I go with my gut and stay with Water/Environmental or consider switching?

    • @CivilEngAcademy
      @CivilEngAcademy  10 місяців тому +1

      Stay with it. Take it as learning experience. By switching you're completely starting over where if you keep going you're building onto what you know already and have learned. You can do this!

  • @smt2507
    @smt2507 10 місяців тому +1

    Awesome video! Thank you for the in depth update, pardon the pun. What is the best way to go about studying for the conceptual problems for the new 2024 exam?

    • @CivilEngAcademy
      @CivilEngAcademy  10 місяців тому +2

      For conceptual problems we have 100 theory questions on our site you can grab. But in general as you study problems be thinking about how the question could be rephrased or asked in a different way. It's the best way to think outside the box on these. Think like a teacher and how you would ask it.

    Since the PE exam is going toward the "SME" route, and not having as much diverse testing, that leads me to believe more states may start only allowing the licensee to practice in area they tested in (which I kind of agree with).

    I'm planning on signing up for a review course and I saw that the school of PE said they were planning on having their courses for the new format accessible by Feb 15th, I have to assume you are planning on updating your courses to do the same, do you have a date in mind the update to the depth courses will be made?
