Running a Fridge without a Dual Battery setup - 12v Fridge on 1 BATTERY

- 12v fridge on 1 battery. In this video i go though how i run my 12V fridge overnight using the kings 120w Solar blanket. You don't need a duel battery setup in order to run a fridge when your away camping and touring !

Track Name.
Pro Tip: Make sure to park your car facing down hill so you can clutch start it when the battery eventually goes flat
Quote of the year: "120 watts of Chinese goodness" Bwhahahahah - I love this bloke
Thanks for taking the time to show us this, I never knew these existed.
Great content bro.
Thank's James!! Means a lot!! 🍻
Good on ya mate. Good to see you don't just go into ARB & buy the best of everything like some blokes.
I just bought a Kings lithium ion jump starter for $97 , bloody great little unit. Not only will it jump start a dead flat battery but it'll also run camp lights & charge phones n stuff.
Great video, well explained and to the point, not like others where they ramble on about their life story. Very good mate thanks for the info😊
Thanks mate nice and basic that’s the way I like it, easy to understand thanks and mate very good
Bloody rippa mate, keep it going
I just run the century over lander battery..it’s a cranking battery and also a 100ah deep cycle. Combine that with the fold up panel and you have a party
Oh for sure man!! killer battery!
This comment has solved all of my issues!
Great idea! Thank you mate..
Thanks Vinayak! Glad to hear!!
Great vid
Revolutionary video
G A M E C H A N G E R
This dude is fully stoned lol. Love it!
Nothing wrong with smashin a few cones on the tracks
🤣🤣
Very good
Necessity is the mother of invention
Thanks for the tips! I've just tried this setup on my car too (I've just been going with leaving the accessories on and not the additional cigarette lighter lead). Seems to work perfectly well, except overnight. Turned the car off overnight, and my fridge was at 10 degrees in the morning, which is probably a little warm and leads to one option (without having to spend more money).
Turning the fridge pretty low during the day (let's say 1 degree). Just before bed, turning it up to 5 degrees (probably a good limit for how hot your food should get) and hoping that it doesn't kill the battery.
Yes the Kings fridge will cut out before the battery dies, however, the other accessories may drop the battery below that 12V safety limit (obviously as many of the accessories that can be turned off have been turned off).
Would love any other thoughts from anyone about how to tackle the overnight situation
Addition: the battery was at 12.4V just before I turned the car off
Kings stuff is good, I rate it !!!
The quality may not be supper high end but then again nether is the price. I’ve been happy with all my kings purchases so far. I have the 60l fridge and the next size up solar blanket from yours.
It’s cheap enough that if it fucks out you can afford to buy another one and your still ahead financially over buying the big brand stuff.
Perfect for weekend warriors on a budget and 4wd’ers just starting out like me
Yeah exactly mate!
This works fine, as a safety measure add a low voltage cutoff switch to the fridge so it cant fully drain the battery. Easy
yeah exactly! well the kings fridge actually has one built in so your laughing!!
@@AussieArvos Ah excellent, should have mentioned that in the vid! or maybe i missed that part? anyway another cheap option is to just run say a 200A Continuous duty Solenoid that comes on with the key (just wire a relay off the accessory circuit to trip the solenoid) that connects the Second battery to the main in parallel. Use 35mm2 Welding leads for a stick welder (like $5 a metre from BOC or any welding supplier) Can do a good dual battery setup for about $400 thats ultra reliable and acts and a second crank battery (using a marine battery as the secondary)
My Kings fridge has an adjustable low voltage shut off switch built in
I permanently mount the solar on the roof and use a solar controller to hard wire to the back of the car. Have output volt cut off to 12.2. Similar cost, same prices but set and forget
Off topic but Mint DayZ shirt haha
I love that game
HAHHA legend!! was waiting for someone to notice it!! great game!!
Aussie Arvos I noticed the before clicking the video haha and then I realised it was your channel so double impressed 🤣
@@AussieArvos Man the mod for arma 2 was so mad
Love ya shirt.
Maaattteeee. Instead of the Kings 120 Watt Solar Panel, you should have gone for the 160 Watt combi with dual solar and lunar inputs. For $40 additional dollars you could have lunar charged it at night to extend stay.
Ty
That’s a John Juan right there
That Chinese solar controller has adjustable low voltage cutout and MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY FIRST to avoid damaging it. Just like most controllers!
I've got the same solar controller, how do you up the input ?
I bought that same fridge 14 months ago. Shit itself two weeks ago. I called a couple people to see if it could be repaired and got advised to throw it in the bin. Just a heads up for anyone thinking of buying a Kings fridge.
14 months is good for the price
@@craigd123 poor man pays twice.
Even if battery gets too low, I carry a portable jump starter battery so sgould be safe
cheers man, thanks for the tip
does your fridge still run if your car is off? or it only hooks up when the car is driving?
Watch the whole vid!
That's it! Better than dual battery I got this setup running right this very moment
How long will the fridge go befor we flat the battery im useing a 4 cylinder battery
Why not connect your solar permanently?
Don't ya have to hook the controller up first then the panel?
Mr Kings
You’d be changing your crank battery pretty regularly with this method. Discharging a crank battery even by 20% can damage it
With the solar panel connected and disconnected at night, it wouldn't discharge much at all. It would effectively be running directly from the sun.
@@nickhayley
Depends how warm/hot the ambient temperature is at night!
I thought 50% for Lead-acid?
Or is that SLA only?
Apparently 50% is roughly around 12.0V for Lead-acid or is that 20%?
Draining 20% would effectively make it dead and he wouldnt beable to start the car as it'd be below 10v. Hes likely only using
Great vid..put are you pissed?
HAHAHAHA no just got back from a trip
Put who is pissed?
I get a week out of a battery with my waeco 50 litre and can still start my ute but I have a dual battery system now
How do you connect the 12v cig wiring cable to the battery and the solar panels at the same time?
Your just bypassing the need for the ignition to be on
is it okay for my car battery to run a Alpicool C20 right off the car battery cigarette lighter if I'm going to be driving 8 hours a day?
what fridge are you using ?
Kings Fridge 45L

so far been really good for the price!!
Where did you get your solar charge controller?
And the leads from the charger?
the solar controller and leads came with the solar blanket!
chinese goodness lol
Time ave changed
Yes i'm certainly the type of guy to use Chinese Raybans!!!
That 120 watts of Chinese goodness is probably actually about 50 watts of goodness, lol.
Yep, followed by inefficiencies and lack of MPPT of the PWM controller
Lol Chinese goodness🤣 how u think the kings 45L fridge? I m actually considering to get one for a long trip
mate they are awesome ! had mine for about 7 months now and hasn't missed a beat! in 43c in the back of a Pajero on a 4x4 track hitting bumps etc and still solid ! great fridge for the price!
@@AussieArvos Thanks for the info mate! definitely helpful!
There are cheap ways to rig batteries with a 50$ solenoid and 2 80amp fuses and some wire that isolate both batteries. Thats not expensive, then you add some chinese goodness on top to ensure you never have any issues. Knock on wood
Do u ever clean your motor.?
HAHAHHA
yeh a no use in the UK..hopeless
or most refrigerators now these days have a low voltage cut off. so you set to 12 volts and then when the battery gets the 12 volts it turns the compressor fridge off so you can start your battery and don't look like a dumbass
Your handles on the fridge are upside down buddy
Sure?
On further thought, the handles should be down, as it's best for tying the fridge down
Chinese goodness 😅
Yeah Adventure Kings cheap and shit
Why dafuq would u not buy Chinese ray bands?? I wouldn't buy a Chinese solar panel tho haha
Jewwwwwwww
Scomo says ..... don't buy Chinese
