I like at the end you mention that if you are watching this video a year from now that the rules may have changed. It's like you are keeping up with the time travel theme in your Final Thoughts! Great run through, sir!
Handling a time travel theme as a loan mechanic is awesome and it is something I can see being used in other games with that theme.
When I got the email from Mind Clash about this game, I brushed it aside thinking I wasn't interested...But you have changed my mind completely! This game looks so freakin' awesome!
I love Trickerion. So happy this looks like a big winner as well.
wow... I just gotta say wow... Got looking at and picked up the box for this at my LGS. heavy and big! Thanks Rahdo for another fantastic video. you had me at Time Travel. love worker placement. and mechs are just icing on the cake.
Your videos made me back it, leader edition for the progress path. Thanks Rahdo! Really looking forward to this game!
I think you're almost as excited about this game as I am. Thanks for the review!
This game looks so good. Missed the KS and I can't imaging getting the game without those cool miniatures. I've read that you can only get the miniatures through the main Website and it'll likely be certain quantities. Also looking at the KS campaign it looks like there's a solo mode too. That sold me but I have to hold off for a bit as much with KS games and all the interesting games coming out, there's only so much I can afford.
Fighterfan69 looking up to preorder from web page. you can get the mini for $40, on sale right now for $30
Fighterfan69 As you probably know by now you can actually buy the pack that has the minis but it costs as much as the core game. From the sounds of it though it is totally worth it.
So in the Kickstarter -- to get the prettier version-- you pledge to one of the paths. Which would you choose Richard? I pledged the path of Progress! Path of Harmony was tempting as well
+Marguerite Cottrell (Maggibot) progress definitely, though my fave color is green. but in boardgames if green isn't available i generally go yellow, so progress FTW! :)
I'm having this same debate right now!
Irwin Dolobowsky join us in the way of progress Irwin
I did!
oh after Christmas I am preordering this game and the minis
Thanks for the warning about table space.
Great Vid Rahdo! Do you reckon this is worthy of a yearly top 10 list??
Looks magnificent.
Liked the Zardoz references.
Wow! Just looking at your runthrough of this game makes my head spin. The whole time travel idea confuses me a lot. It does look like a cool game though, if I can end up groking it.
It looks really interesting. Although I couldn't grasp how the cataclysm really fits into the game. Maybe it would be nice to have a very remote possibility to avoid it with some kind of development, since we can get stuff from the future anyway. Still, I'm considering it. Very nice shipping costs definitely helps a lot too.
Apparently you can influence the outcome of the meteor impact with the Doomsday module. Nice!
@Anachrony board game - Can I request my Leader copy from the future to play it now???
+Matt diesel It would be great, but unfortunately no Neutronium is to be found on Earth until the Day of Purgation:( For the technology of time travel humanity will have to pay a big price...
Perhaps the Doctor will help...
+Matt diesel Doctor... who?;)
Hey Rahdo, did you get a final version of his? Wondering because of KS coming out soon for the expansion. And he question was because I wondered qhere you d put this on your list? Is it top 20 material?
yup, planning on getting something filmed in time for the expansion campaign :)
Equal or less heavy than Trickerion overall?
+Tony Faber Similar complexity and strategic depth, but easier to understand the basics for starting players. The Leader Box has two additional modules, so you can even fine tune the complexity and flavour of the gameplay each time you play.
Richard, I know that Trickerion wasn't really a good fit for you and Jen, but is this one? I ask based on your preference for 2 player and limited player combat with one another.
+Jason Miller this one's a much better fit for us. we like trickerion too, but it was maybe a bit overwhelming
Very good! I love Trickerion and Anachrony looks just as good.
This seems neat, but I simply do not understand how game end triggers. There's no hidden scoring, so someone can conceivably figure out their score just from the board state. With that knowledge, there is no reason at all that I can see for the person in first to not just collapse all of the capital tiles immediately after the meteor hits. I just don't see how this game can ever go past turn 5 with optimal play. Sure, one player can't collapse all of the tiles themselves, but they aren't the only one sending the exosuits into the capital and like you said those tiles offer sizable bonuses so people are going to be naturally attracted to those spots.
I'm going to post this on the KS too, because I really want to like this game, but at the moment I just don't see it. Usually I can watch one of these runthroughs and read the game's rules and figure out roughly how a game would play out, but with this I'm left confused because what feels like should happen would be extremely anticlimactic.
+Khift A good point! I assume the rest of the round plays out though, which would provide some uncertainty, unless it is a blowout (in which case ending it sooner might be a blessing anyway).
+Khift regarding one player forcing an immediate collapse... that can't happen. after the meteor, each player now only has 4 mech bays instead of 6, so they can only send 4 workers to the capital at most each round. That's not enough to trigger the game end, so it would take them two full rounds at least to accomplish this by themselves, and during that time, everyone else would be continuing to actually try to pursue their scoring agenda, and this could potentially put the "game ender" behind.
You should update your review with the final retail/kickstarter version of the game (and of the rules)...
i might do if they send me a final production copy. that doesn't always happen though (in fact, it doesn't, more often than not)
This game is easy for starting players?
How long would a 2 or 4 player game run?
+Colin Nordstrom The base game itself is really around 30 minutes per player (it might take longer for the first time or with beginners), adding the modules might add up to playing time though.
60 to 120 minutes is long?
Right?! That's about the length of a movie or documentary show. Not bad at all. (Especially if you compare this to how long Dominant Species or Star Wars: Rebellion takes to play.)
Deluxe squid? XD
looks cool and you make it sound fun, but it sounds like it would be too long with 4 players.
+aowoodworks it's stated is 30mins/player... so I suppose it's about 45mins per player ;-)
I've actually seen worse
+Er Panfi I'm not really opposed to 3 hour games, my worry from the description is that there is a lot of down time between turns. It sounded like when it gets to your turn you have to weigh out a lot of options and makes a lot of decisions before playing. This is fine in a smaller count but I find if you can't do anything until your turn and you have to wait for some slower analytical players to take their turn before you can choose what to do, then it can feel too long. I may be way off on this and there is something to do even when it isn't your turn, if so then I would love to try it.
+aowoodworks Completely right on this... Alas, is the major defect of every non-simultaneous turn game :-(
Watching the runthrough I think that there are some activities that can be parallelized, if needed, like the Exosuit powerup decisions... But if you aim for the max efficiency of every move there's only a limited quantity of "reasoning" you can do during opponents' turns, so you must wait your turn to make the decisions.
+aowoodworks It looks like most of the "long term" planning is done simultaneously (how many mech suits, what do I ask for), but a quicker player will still end up waiting for the more deliberate player. When worker turns are being taken, it looks like each turn is fairly simple, in and of itself.
What is this madness?
I was waiting for this one!! thanks
