If the two halves of your pen are tight enough and don't leak, you can fill the pen body itself, and do away with the cartridge. Do a test next time you clean a pen. After it's fully cleaned fill the pen body with ink, screw on the nib side of the pen body and set it down on a white paper towel or a piece of paper and leave it on its side for a while, checking on it occasionally. If no ink comes out and stains the paper, you're good to go without cartridges. You can check it with only water, but if the water dries before you can check it...

not sure I want to risk that, that sounds like a guaranteed mess! I'm ok with making a mess in the sink until a better system comes along:)))
