I‘m currently working on my portfolio for my application at university (Film with major focus on animation) and was pretty lost in what to exactly put in until seeing this! You have no idea how much you helped me with this and your other content! Thanks to you I feel way more assured and structured in what to put in it! Thank you so much!!!
Hi Toniko!! I just wanted to thank you for this video. I've been getting more and more into storyboarding and animation recently, and it's definitely a career path I'd like to pursue, so I just want you to know how much I appreciate your input on the subject. Thanks again!!
Thank you so much Toniko! This has come at the right time for me! I am in the process of building a portfolio and taking storyboarding classes this July
Thank you for these tips! These kinds of tutorial are really rare on the internet. Question though, are storyboards different from colorscripts? And would a recruiter like a storyboard with colors and shading or just black and white sketches?
This is incredibly helpful since I'm currently trying to build my portfolio for a portfolio review even that's coming up. I've been pretty lost of what I should or shouldn't add and have just been stuck. Thank you so much for these tips
I really appreciate all your videos!! I just moved to LA myself and am excited to learn more about storyboarding. I come from a 2D animation background but realized if I want to work on TV, I better go the storyboard route.
This video came around at the perfect time! I'm at the point where I need a solid portfolio put together but I have no idea where to start. Thanks for the tips!!!
Hey Toniko, great inspirational stuff here, got my engines revving! Can you say something more about the competitiveness of the industry? Does it mean newbies with little experience have a lesser chance in getting their foot in the door? Sounds like the eternal "fresh guy needs to get a job but the job requires experience" wheel, so what do newbies need to present when their portfolio is a little thin? Thanks again and awesome artwork, too.
Already have my own art production so it does not matter since many studios have been very harsh on us. Glad that I am doing well with my art and improving.
Thank you for all these great tips! I'm planning to apply for internship, but does the portfolio have to be the same as professional animators, or do the companies still want to see student-like portfolios from interns? (e.g. things like frame studies and experimentation; something to show "potential" yet showing more professionalism than college entrance portfolio?) And I wonder if it is okay to add self-written script as well.
Hi! Loved all these tips, they're so helpful. I'm currently revising my portfolio to apply a studio internship and I'm trying to find a way to add interactive slideshows to the website (which I use adobe portfolio for it) since it is the wanted format to apply, so I was wondering if you have any advice on how exactly to add our storyboards in slideshow format?
By making separate portfolios for each kind of work, does that mean a separate page on your website, like one page titled "Characters", another "Vis Dev", and another "Storyboards", or does it mean a separate site entirely?
When showing the process of your boards...is there other ways you could show the process like in a video describing what you did or should you always have them by pictures? How would this be formatted?
does anyone know or understand how he structured his panels all together onto those black background sheets? like is there a specific way to do it or a program you need??? any info is appreciated
My winter break started this friday so I have officially started building my storyboard portfolio! Hoping I can start applying for internships this summer, fingers crossed🤞🏽💕 I have a question Toniko but it's completely okay if you don't know the answer lol. When it comes to internships and recruitment, would I have a chance at a big studio like Dreamworks as someone from the middle east? Or would the recruiters just pass my portfolio without even looking since I would have to get a visa to work there and also since racism is actually an widespread issue?😔 Any thought on this matter would be so helpful
This is really great Toniko! Thank you for this. :-) I am a generally a comic book illustrator looking to transition into storyboarding. I know I have the skills to do this but I am not a writer. Is there a place in the web where I can find a script or shot list that I can work from? It wold really help if you could answer this question for me. Thanks Toniko @tonikopantoja
Great video, but you didn't really cover any tips on what to storyboard if you're trying to build content for your portfolio. Should you try to get involve with an independent film project? Should you write your own story? Should you storyboard something from a well-know tv show?
independent film projects help, or coming up with short story sequences on your own. I used the boards from my short films for that. The common tip I heard for feature was to have variety in the types of sequences, such as drama, comedy, action, etc. Having your own story sequences help, although after your experience in the industry - you start to use boards from work with its copyright characters. Unless its NDA, you'd have to have a private portfolio with a password for the recruiter.
this was a great video! I have a question. If I have a portfolio website, how do I keep my work from being stolen? As if someone would just take my images and use them as their own. I know you recommend putting our name and contact info frequently but those could be easily edited out.
Everything im this video is really debatable, i dont know why story artist think amd feel like they know it all, when the animation industry is not even 100 years old of being an established art career
Ok so I had never worked as a story artist hence I don't have any storyboards. Am I required to make one for a real project or making a storyboard for an imaginary project would be fine?
Definitely better if its your own ideas that you came up with since it'll show how you can start something from scratch. For any other copyright material, I usually show that stuff separately.
So the advice is to show the studios what you can do, your voice, but at the same time you tell people to twist their style to reach out to the studio need. This is why the industry keeps making the same childish cartoons with the same aesthetics
wish I could have seen this a month ago when I was printing my portfolio! very good advice as always
Wait.. have you two met??
This is super helpful. So glad professionals in the industry are sharing this kind of advice, I feel like there's not enough of this. Thanks!

Thanks a bunch, I’m making a portfolio for Animation University’s, and this video may not be for that but it’s still useful, thanks again.
Fantastic advice, Toniko! Thank you SO much
Great video thanks! I'm slowly putting my portfolio together at the moment and I was wondering whether 3 or 4 or 5 sequences was enough.
thank you so much for making this video!
Thanks for big helpful tips for us!

This is what I call fucking useful, thnxs pro
This is so helpful! Will you be doing a video for a character design portfolui?
you're a hero
Thank you!!
i wonder if you could do an updated version of this video? Any changes of opinions, industry standards etc...
literally the best timing lol
This is brilliant thank you for sharing!
By making separate portfolios for each kind of work, does that mean a separate page on your website, like one page titled "Characters", another "Vis Dev", and another "Storyboards", or does it mean a separate site entirely?
+Toniko Pantoja Do you think that video game companies hire a story artist through "remotely work"?
Cool bro thanx
Can storyboards in a portfolio be hand draw on paper. I don’t feel like it would make to much of a difference than it would on a drawing tablet
Thanks.
so how do you practice storyboarding?
I just want to know like to make a story board , do we have to first make up our own story or can we just use any movie as a reference?
When showing the process of your boards...is there other ways you could show the process like in a video describing what you did or should you always have them by pictures? How would this be formatted?
thAAAANK you!
Recruiters sound like real gems. You know, like creative types and critical thinkers…
@Toniko Pantoja
, What are your thoughts on storyboard/animatic demoreels?
does anyone know or understand how he structured his panels all together onto those black background sheets? like is there a specific way to do it or a program you need??? any info is appreciated

So may comments about ppl hype up about doing a portfolio yet none have said they have the job
Please make more videos 🙏

Hi, I'm in the same boat right now... did you find anything and areyou/have you gotten into storyboarding?
Hey Toniko, is there a quicker way I can put the images in one page?
Great video, but you didn't really cover any tips on what to storyboard if you're trying to build content for your portfolio. Should you try to get involve with an independent film project? Should you write your own story? Should you storyboard something from a well-know tv show?

@@TonikoPantoja Wow okay thanks so much!
Would it still be good points even if you don't have a complete animation of the story?
It's going to be #waltdisney vs. #thegothic movie. . .
Can I share with you my portfolio, Toniko?
this was a great video! I have a question. If I have a portfolio website, how do I keep my work from being stolen? As if someone would just take my images and use them as their own. I know you recommend putting our name and contact info frequently but those could be easily edited out.

Ok so I had never worked as a story artist hence I don't have any storyboards. Am I required to make one for a real project or making a storyboard for an imaginary project would be fine?
Imaginary is fine - or come up with a short story that fits one sequence.
Toniko Pantoja that sounds like a good idea. Thanks a lot, sir.
wait can I ask something? Now, if I am suppose to include storyboards in my portfolio, are the storyboards for my own films or others?
Mohd Ali its better if it is from ur own films or new ideas
Definitely better if its your own ideas that you came up with since it'll show how you can start something from scratch. For any other copyright material, I usually show that stuff separately.
Toniko Pantoja and you will show them you're creativity and what ur capable of
why are you deleting your tutorials?
I haven't deleted anything recently?
I wanted to learn more about making a story portfolio, not a storyboarding portfolio.
I got a show I want to promote.
I think you're looking to make a pitch packet/pitch bible?
So the advice is to show the studios what you can do, your voice, but at the same time you tell people to twist their style to reach out to the studio need. This is why the industry keeps making the same childish cartoons with the same aesthetics
