Thank you for your video. This is the third video I watched from your channel today. You are very knowledgeable. The first video I watched was the one about the aphids and about the plant health.
The hoppers are the messenger. Did you check the brix of the different varieties? I wonder if the purple ?? have a higher brix. Did you spray any of these with the Bionutrient Food Association plant food.
Good, on the messenger! I did not get the brix checked, the Red Norland was already eaten before I got to it. The center bed received micronutrients from AEA (nutrient are pretty much the same as the bio nutrient product. Thanks for watching Sue
grasshoppers are a different level of insects. lowest would be aphids. same everything except genetics. still i must say, if one pushes nutrition with some practices, the other variety can withstand grasshoppers...blessings to all
They've defoliated my spuds almost completely, my question is what do I do now, I'd like to give them another month in the ground, will they still continue to grow tubers at this point or do I need to dig them immediately? The foliage was starting to look pretty ratty just before the hoppers infested them so I'm thinking they'd shifted their energy from foliage development to tuber development already and maybe they'll still develop a bit more if I leave them? First year growing spuds for me if that isn't obvious, lol.
Hi Jim, Sorry to hear the hopper eat your potatoes. I would not dig now, just make sure the tubers are covered up so the hopper cannit get to the tubers. What variety did you plant?
@@regenerativegardeningwithpattiHi Patti, thanks for your reply! They were just some spuds I bought in a bag from the supermarket last winter. For about 2 months they supplied these for some reason instead of their usual low end 10 lb bags of russets for $3. I ended up going through 30 lbs of them, I really liked them and they seemed quite prolific in sending out shoots so I saved a few to see if I could get them to grow. They just said "Sun Supreme Idaho Potatoes" on the bags, I think they might be Russet Norkotah from what I read on their website or possibly Yukon Gold. I only planted 9 hills, that's all I saved from the bag, all I really wanted out of these spuds was just a bunch more seed potatoes for next year (assuming they're worth keeping). I'll leave them in the ground, maybe I'll dig one hill just to see what I ended up with, the suspense is killing me, lol. Thanks, hope your spuds survived the hoppers as well!
