even before opening the video i immediately imagined this would be Utrecht, and it is true, the location is incredible and it has everything good that Amsterdam has without the bad. Amersfoort is a strong second place, close to Utrecht quite similar and the house market is not as bad as in utrecht
The funny thing about Utrecht is that its basically one of the four efficient Function business brothers of the big Randstad city agglomeration in Netherlands Amsterdam is the tourist Capital with the very busy Schiphol airport, Rotterdam is the big Port city where allot of European good come in and out, Den Haag is the Parliament who governs allot, and Utrecht is the Central hub and gateway to the rest of Holland. And everything is soo well connected.
@@gerardsonneveldt2144 no to Holland. Its from the rest of NL to Holland the two provinces where the Randstad is based. Ik kom zelf ook uit NL hoor ik weet wat ik zeg.
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧.. I love utrecht! My sister married a Dutch guy many years ago and they raised their family in oudewater just outside utrecht before moving back to England a few years ago, I'd love to go back! 💜
I only stayed for one week, but Utrecht was a lovely town. I felt nostalgic when I found the game center, rented a bicycle and went around town, and the huge bicycle parking lot underneath Utrecht Station fascinated me.
Just came back little over a month ago to my country after living 5 months in Utrecht as an exchange student and I can 100% vouch for what you are saying. Watching this video brings so many memories back of my friends and time there. Love to see the city again, thank you. Great video!
Hey I’m applying to Utrecht. What’s the student life like? Are the studies competitive/ intense? Is it hard to make friends as an international? Thanks!
Utrecht is awesome, if you: 1- Can afford it 2- Can actually find housing 3- Are related to the Chang family 4- Don't mind living in a €1200 shared shoe box 5- Are not "No Internationals" Now, all jokes aside, Utrecht is an amazing student city, I'd definitely recommended it to any local/international student, just start looking for a place with a long time in advance, housing is a nightmare here! 🏠
1:33 In my opinion, it looked better before they started last renovation. The colours were warmer and I just like the vibe of older buildings more then modern argitecture. The mechanical information board is now in the train museum.
I discovered your channel yesterday, and loved it! The presentations are clear and funny to see, thank you c:. Best wishes in everything. And I hope you and all of us who struggle with find ourselves with a clear direction, may find us well in life
I work in Utrecht and I literally recorded my video at the same place you are recording your footage 😌🤎 Utrecht is amazing, we were looking for a house to buy there but everything was above our budget... we bought a house in Almere, eventually.
lol, without watching the video I'm gonna go study there for the next couple of years, thanks for making the informative vid about the city (also you seem to have a pretty cool channel earned a new subscriber :3)
I lived there on a working holiday visa for three months too, right near terwijde. It is a really nice city, but the country's housing crisis is too severe. I spent the entire time trying to find a room to rent but never succeeded. Too bad.
Hey, we just got back from your city that starts with T and it was so nice! I went up to each thing you showed in your video (which I could not find again so I'm commenting here). I kept saying, "Oh, this one Erica likes, or thinks is lame!" and then we came to a giant rock and I said "If I remember correclty, it rotates." So I ran it around and around and I hope all the tourists appreciated it. The next day I did it agian. I cannot not run that rock around. I was disappointed in Der Dom cuz 1. no stained glass and 2. no visible Jesus gown despite claiming Jesus' gown was in there. The Frauenkirche satisfied, tons of stained glass and an amazing ceiling ....better than Cologne, I daresay! Then we found a restaurant (Kleine Laempchen) that was on the TV show Mein Lokal Dein Lokal and we had to eat there cuz we're fans of the show. When the food turned out poorly, my comment was the wrong cut of chicken (breast too try, should be thigh). The host told me "Geschmack sache" which is quatsch. My husband said, "I found it also dry. So dry it stuck my teeth together." She again argued. Then we watched the freaking show online and the host said, "Chicken breast too dry, try thigh." WTH! I freaking quoted the host of the show and the lady didn't comprehend, didn't care, I have such a Trip Advisor review coming. Trier depressed me when it came to the Ampitheater, where thousands came to watch people die. What is wrong with people? People are SICK. Watch TV people, don't go watch people bleed to death fighting wild animals or other people! If I were from Trier, though, I'd be so proud. Show me an older city. You cannot. Is it really older than Rome?
Boring architecture? Utrecht is the place of Gerrit Rietveld which build one of the most famous buildings of the 20th century architecture: the Rietveld-Schröder-House. Rietveld influenced modern architects and who knows how our cities would look today without him :) You can go inside the house and for architecture lovers this thing is insane! ;-)
The random explosions were probably fireworks! For some reason Dutch people just really love fireworks, especially teenagers will just randomly set them off and play with them even when it's not that close to the new year.
A question for everyone, which country is better for settling down, growing old peacefully? Germany or the Netherlands?.. And also, another awesome video.. Paldies Erik! 😊
Hahaha maybe you should specify a little what exactly you're looking for. And Germany is quite a large country so it's even more difficult to generalise.
So far my expereince with the trains in utrech were positive but i believe you. But i wonder if it s as bad as germany :D because when i came to visit utrecht from DE the german train managed to always be late
I went to Utrecht CS at the Friday before Christmas last year in the evening rush hour and it was very busy on the platform, in the main station hall/concourse and it it was very very busy in the shopping mall and the city center. But it wasn’t a mess in central station, my train wasn’t cancelled or late and I didn’t see any train cancellations or late arrivals on the boards. And it was probably the busiest rush hour of the year. I know not everything goes smoothly but there is a lot of exaggeration going on about the Dutch Railway Company NS. It still has a high reliability rate and not a very high amount of late trains in Europe. It is a shame though that the EU doesn’t have the same rules for every EU country to compare the late train arrivals and cancellations rate. That would give a real reliable comparison between countries. Now every country can set up its own rules. For one of the busiest rail systems in the EU, they offer a reasonably high reliability. The only thing they lack is cleanliness of trains (inside and outside) and graffiti in toilets. They should change the locks of toilets on trains, only to be opened by a debit, credit or public transport card (not the anonymous ones) and install cameras which will swap the toilet space after someone has left the toilet and which of course are turned off when the door opens for usage. So it will be easy to find and fine people messing up the toilets.
8:50 It is more complicated: There is lack of houses There is a strong corelation between ethnisity and crime (up to 5× the level of the native populasion) Also there are problems with imigration: since the imigration has risen a lot there is an increasing number of imigrants refusing to imigrate, trying to refuse society and ban traditions, and a counter movement refusing to accept imigrants, which is also not possible due to a lack of labour and even more complicated ethical debates.
Ah, I see! With all that "Surfshark" money you made, you've upgraded to a new microphone! It's weird that it looks like your old one and is simply sticked to an old pen. Great video again, love your contend.
you are talking - and I am listening. Utrecht is probably o.k. when you say so.. But actually nothing "clicked" in me. I still wonder why Utrecht ? Has Utrecht a soul? Is it just close to Amsterdam? If Utrecht is the best city in Netherlands - does it get the presentation it deserves? ( I like your vedeos but my hearing isn't too good,, I would appreciate it you used a better microphone, thanks).
I once got suck with my car there when I visited a goth festival in the city. I ended up on tram rails with a tram hurrying up toward behind me. Somehow I managed to escape.😕
everywhere is easy to get to in most dutch cities, thank god we got more than one airport or trains stations. dear god this video is such an rubbish mess

I don't know why I'm watching a video of Justin Bieber reviewing Utrecht but I'm here for it.
hahaha!

Same, I went to utrecht in march this year and it was better than amsterdam
Love learning about Europe from you. I like your relaxed style of presenting.

Utrecht is kinda like the perfect balance of everything you would need from a Dutch city ^^
I only stayed for one week, but Utrecht was a lovely town. I felt nostalgic when I found the game center, rented a bicycle and went around town, and the huge bicycle parking lot underneath Utrecht Station fascinated me.

I was never in Utrecht but I will check it out. I was mainly in Maastricht, and sometimes in Amsterdam, Haarlem and Scheveningen. Nice video
I love your videos. They're so casually quirky and funny and informative about these lovely countries.
Just found your channel today and I am so glad I did! Your humor is wonderful and your content is excellent overall
You are an excellent UA-camr Erika. Keep spreading happiness.
Utrecht was great when I visited a few months ago, Kasteel de Haar was life changing for me.
Utrecht is awesome, if you:
1- Can afford it
2- Can actually find housing

Chang family??
Your voice and speech and atmosphere of your videos are so addictive! 😆 I don't know why, but I just feel comfortable. Keep it up!!!

Great video, I live in Utrecht, and I have been here for 4 years.
yayyyy new upload, love your vids :)
I like the authenticity of your videos :) keep going!

My friend has been living there for college and I have visited a few times and its so great
Oh cool, my city! I just moved here this September to go to uni and so far I've been loving it ❤
I work in Utrecht and I literally recorded my video at the same place you are recording your footage 😌🤎 Utrecht is amazing, we were looking for a house to buy there but everything was above our budget... we bought a house in Almere, eventually.
That shopping mall is Hoog Catharijne... very famous mall, translates to High Catherine. Not high as using drugs, but high as it not low.
lol, without watching the video I'm gonna go study there for the next couple of years, thanks for making the informative vid about the city (also you seem to have a pretty cool channel earned a new subscriber :3)
Nice to have you back
Haha thx surfshark and congrats to you on the new sponsorship. Thx for another interesting video.
I’m learning a lot from your channel. Wish you the best!
Croesestraat, that’s where I lived a long time and my children are born. Still sad for leaving Utrecht 😢
Fun video. My situation is the mirror opposite of yours - after living in Germany for 4.5 years, I’m relocating to Utrecht.
Utrech, Deventer, Zwolle, shertogenbosh...
My top
yaaaay, new video!!💗
I lived there on a working holiday visa for three months too, right near terwijde. It is a really nice city, but the country's housing crisis is too severe. I spent the entire time trying to find a room to rent but never succeeded. Too bad.
Nice hairstyle, though I can't stop looking at that wandering strand lol
As always good video❤ greetings from Hanover
What is the model of the mic? Its super funny and creative setup, sick!
i like Maastricht most and then Utrecht, i think they are the most beautiful cities in nl
