That was one of the most full pho bowls I've seen, usually they're half broth ... That'll definitely raise your core temperature, but everyone enjoys a good sweat, 30 minutes of pho eating = 3 minutes in this sun :P
I definitely had to chill after that one. All that hot broth felt like it raised my core temp a couple degrees. I was so hot and drenched after eating that.
I realised that I don’t hear people compliment ramen or pho challenges on their flavor much. Nice to meet a fellow noodle appreciator 😁. Ah, the dilemma! Hot broth or overcooked noodles? Fortunately as someone who was once a student I’m familiar with both 😅. The important thing is you finished in just over half the time limit, which is impressive, because including the broth that was a heavy challenge. Great job, and congratulations on the win!!! And I call it “Foe” sometimes too 😅. If you do as well, it means I can say “you defeated a fearsome pho” and the joke works 😅.
I have certainly had a lot more pho than I have ramen over the years, but I do enjoy both. As for this bowl of pho, the broth was great; probably some of the best I have had. Some can be overly salty; however, this wasn’t. The noodles were over cooked, but that’s to be expected for a challenge like this. It came out so hot, it would have been inedible until it cooled. Because the volume was so much, it just took longer to cool which continued to cook the noodles. As for the hot broth or overcooked noodles, I’ll take the overcooked noodles. I certainly don’t need to scald myself for the sake of a challenge. The overcooked noodles still taste good, the consistency is just more mush. And yes, I agree, I defeated a fearsome foe/pho. Love the pun. Thanks. I always love your feedback. 👍
Hi Chris - I have never tried pho, but it looks like a whole bunch of those ramen noodle packets. I like ramen noodles. And the pieces of beef would be good too. You had sweat running down the side of your face. If you were doing the challenge again, would you wait another 10 minutes before starting? Congrats on the victory. Thanks for the video.
The noodles in pho and ramen are different. The pho noodles are rice vermicelli noodles and are very soft. Ramen noodles are made from flour and are a little chewy. Some will likely disagree but I think the broths are similar, and both are very good. I think if you like ramen, you would like pho. To your question, if I did it again, I’d probably wait a similar time as I did. Now I know how much the noodles keep absorbing and overcook. In another 10 minutes, the noodles would have been more mush like and harder to eat. The cooler temp would have been nice, but I’m not sure that that would have made it any better to eat. I waited about 10-15 min before starting already. Thanks
Thank you very much. I don’t know where you are, but Pho Please in the Austin, TX area was some of the best pho I’ve had. If I lived there, I would go often. 😁
It is the broth that makes the Pho and there was certainly a lot of broth. Looked delicious. It would have been nice if they could have put more meat in there at that price . It looked like 4lbs of noodles, a pound of meat and 3 pounds of liquid. Hopefully the rest stops aren’t too far apart. 😅Great job !
I’m sure the noodles looked like more than they added because I let it sit for a while cooling, and the noodles just kept absorbing broth and overcooked. Great pho though. Thanks!👍
Awesome job, man! I’d love to do a pho challenge. That one ramen challenge I mentioned I did - same one Brandon did also - it was definitely hot. I copied Brandon’s technique of taking several tall cups of ice and put it in the broth to cool it down. Prior to the challenge, I did ask if it was ok that I do that since Brandon did it and they said no problem. It did help big time to cool it down. Hope you’re doing well!
Thanks Mack. I am doing great. Much better now than after that spicy burger. In my experience, Pho challenges are tough. They are usually huge, and very hot. They taste great though. Good luck if you do one.
1920 E Riverside Dr, Austin, TX 78741 The Pho was really good. Not overly salty like some others. The restaurant is near my old apartments while attending UT many years ago. I still have family around Austin and visit often. It’s a great place. I hope you enjoy it!
If you watch the end of my most recent Tejas Tower Burger Challenge video, I have a conversation with the owner and talk some of this. Just know though, not all competitive eaters do the same things. As for me, exercise every day. Also, I am a very disciplined with my eating between challenges. I eat lighter and healthy. I track everything I eat, and the exercise I do to balance calories in and calories burned during the week. It takes both exercise and disciplined eating. To balance calories in and calories burned.
U have the cutest smile ever 😊and smashed it beaute!!! ❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very much! 😊
Great job, shipmates. That phô looked really good. #GONAVY
It sure was! Thanks #GONAVY

Definitely was. Toward the end, it was pretty tough. When they brought it out, I had my doubts. Thanks!

I certainly felt like I needed one. 😂
