  • I'm back in Chicago for Intelligentsia Cup! I'll be here for the last 6 days - this is Lombard and it's my first time at this course. Good times!! The Cat 3 field is STRONG. The front of the race was a hammer fest.

    I've been keeping up with your channel ever since you got your first race bike. I've just been lurking and enjoying the vibes but I really felt the urge to comment because the racing part seems to have plateaued a bit. Going into these races, I'm just curious what your mentality is. Do you have any drive to win/perform? You're almost always riding near the back/mid pack, never moving up, never getting near the front. Unless you're completely blown up, what is the reason for not at least _trying_ to make a move? The way you race at the moment is pretty much doing a glorified workout, which if you're cool with and that's your goal then I can't really criticize you for it.

    10:41 mark - That is my buddy Matt in the white jersey who went down. Lombard is actually my hometown here in Chicagoland. Crazy to see all my friends in that race, as I train with those strong dudes on a regular basis. Thanks for the upload Claudio!

      @PatrickLino you may train with them, but it looks like you definitely don’t race with them. The only race footage you have ever posted or talked about has been one gravel race from years ago and a practice crit, yet you have so much racing equipment advice on your channel! 😂😂😂

    Fun watch. Have a grest time in Chigagoland!
    I know that everyone is going to say you should ride closer to the front, but I have a slightly different idea when you are racing with riders you don't know. You seem to be comfortable finding your lines at or near the middle/ back. However, I think you should spend a few laps early in the race, figuring how to get to the front. Follow wheels, try different lines, figure who the strongmen are, etc. That way, when you get to 10 laps to go, you'll know which wheels to follow and which lines to take to get yourself to the top 15 with those 10 to go.

    Wondering why you don’t/didn’t choose to ride further up in the bunch. Not in the front, but like top 10 spots. Effort is about the same, no? Why not trying to be up there no matter what. If you blow up so be it, but it might boost your confidence and learnings over time. Easier said than done, I know but that’s what I did and eventually things started to get better and better. Good luck with the rest of the races!

    I was in this race with you. In the black/yellow 3RVS kit. That outside line in turn 1/2 was insane if you didn’t get chopped into the barriers on the little kicker, I tried to take it every lap when I could. I meant to come say hello after the race but I got distracted, bummer.

  • @ptgolen
    @ptgolen Рік тому +1

    Thanks for sharing! I road the Cat 4s. The outside line was THE line for this race. Going outside/in on the u-turn 1 was most ideal, but keeping speed was much more important. Same with turn 2. On 2 if you could enter from the green cones you could carry speed through the rest of the turn.

      If I had gone to Intelligentsia I would have been doing the 4s as well. How are all the 4s performing? smooth, sloppy?

      Everyone has been racing well!
      Nothing worse than shown in this video. My file on the race had the same speed average as Claudio’s so the 4s have been burnin’!

    I'm looking forward to back to back days of Claudio race coverage. I really wanted to go and do some of the Intelligentsia Cup races this summer, but I bought a new bike and spent way too much money on it 🙂... So the next set of out of town races for me are going to be indianapolis, and maybe St Louis. This has been a costly summer not related to racing, had wasps under the house, had to buy new washing machine, and I spent too much money on a new bike 😀😄😄.

    Looking at other cyclists who place race videos coming from intelligentsia. I like how intelligentla varies from four corner races like this, to races that look like they're mountain bike courses. One of the earlier intelligencia races I think had 10 turns in it, and I'm just thinking to myself watching that guy's video, I would totally get dropped in this course. Now this one that you're doing with the two 180s, I'd probably stick with that.

    I would suggest trying to get up closer to the front.Too much rubberbanding in the back.

  • @colehaans2863

    never take an outside line unless you have absolutely no choice. You are letting the guys on the inside dictate your speed and position at the exit of the turn, hence why you have to continuously drop 700-900 watts out of each turn. They are forcing you to run wide and travel further.
    Stop being scared, grab your balls and take the inside line. You aren’t going to be competitive tail gunning. Stop acting shook if you want to actually compete. You ride like you are scared of crashing.

    Can someone explain how fast you have to be to race cat 3? I have always wanted to do a crit, but its impossible for me to tell if I can keep up with these guys. Are these guys training everyday? About how many hours per week do they ride?

    • @Ilovethisaccount500
      @Ilovethisaccount500 Рік тому

      do you have to have a team?

    • @ClaudioMarquez
      @ClaudioMarquez  Рік тому +2

      I train an average of 10 hrs per week. You don’t have to be fast to ride a cat 3 crit - you need to be skilled enough to hold wheels and corner smoothly and read the race. Most races come down to that for me.

  • @billkallas1762

    If you're not moving up, you're moving back. It looks like you are losing one or two positions every lap. Outside on that turn wasn't working....At all.
    If you had lost a few more positions, you would have been behind that crash.

  • @colehaans2863
    @colehaans2863 Рік тому

    10:42 is exactly why you don’t try to purposely take the inside line. Anyone who washes out will take the outside guys out. You were lucky to stay rubber down this race. SMH

      Gentleman who crashed appeared to clip a pedal more so than washing out on crossing paint-rear wheel hops as his right foot is down.
