Sorry Jang, I started hyperventilating into a brown paper bag when I heard the price was $90 so I didn’t hear the end of the video. Lol. Who priced this thing, Brie Larson?!
At what point do you think this will be marked down? From what I've seen in recent years it takes a while for most sets to get marked down, and even then they are usually marked down at most 20%. Amazon doesn't stock this so I think it's a Target and Lego exclusive. We can hope that Target comes to their senses and marks it down soon, but what is their cost? Can they really afford to knock $40 off the price to get this somewhere near reasonable?
Becouse Lego is making the prices and there is nothing whe (the buyers) can do about that. However... whe can, indeed, wait for it to drop in price so that TLG wil notist that these prices are just TO ridiculus(?) I personaly find it one of JANGS many strengts that he calls out if a set is INDEED overpriced. So raging about a price whe cant change is a loss of energy, but calling it what it is, a overpriced set, is a good warning for us fans. Thank you for that Jang snd also for all the time, money, energie and love for Lego you have brought us over the years.
My conspiracy theory as to why this set is $90 retail is Lego knows the movie might not be terribly popular, thus making the set not terribly popular, so they priced it high so they can super easily mark it down/clearance it and still have a good margin, while the buyer looks at it as a "better deal" because of the sale.
If it was $60, the build is large enough and substantial enough that I might consider it. $90? Never ever. I hope the average consumer doesn’t pick it up and reward this practice.
In contrast, Pirates Baracuda Bay set was priced at just $200 (which is an insane amount of stuff you get per dollar).. I know Lego has to pay for licenses and stuff, but geez. It's almost comical how Lego can be at times so generous and sometimes so greedy.
I think the worst thing about this set is that the box art makes it look like there are a lot of chrome pieces, which might somewhat justify the price, but in reality it's just light bluish gray.
I first noticed this with the Razor Crest(s). I was hoping off the promo photos they would be chrome/silver but knew deep down it was just rendered chicanery.
The pricing is even more egregious in Australia. Normally a set this price in the US would be ~$130 AUD, but it's $160 over here. Thats roughly $101 USD
I definitely see how this feels like something from Star Trek: The Next Generation and that era of TV, feels like a model that would have been given a new coat of paint, turned upside down and been good to film.
I can’t wait to find this set for $25. Like that LEGO movie 2 set castle. Not sure why LEGO thought this is a $90 set. I hope no one other then reviewers obtain this set till it’s dummy cheap. Gonna buy a couple of these at that price as a troop transporter so much space inside.
I hope this goes on sale in my area. For some reason I can almost never get sets that I want for less than what Lego wants, or at least not by much. Like, “oh thanks for saving me $10 on a $150 set” levels of savings.
This feels like an alright model with a very strange price, this model is going to be on the shelf next to much better priced Star Wars ships. I can't help but be reminded of the Dilophosaurus Ambush that was only $20 earlier this year and combined with the fact that the effects are lacking. I don't foresee retailers putting up with this and wanting to order these sets from Lego and be left holding the bag.
I like this set, I like how spacey insides of the spaceship are, I like the amount of transparent parts, especially use of them in the back, shape is pretty unique for lego set. That being said, I hope no one will buy it even on clearance. I hope this set tanks harder than any set ever before. This price is not right, even if set looks pretty good.
if i had a nickel for every time a ~400 piece Lego Marvel set was $40 overpriced in the last 2 years i'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
I think this is a testament to how average the design of this ship is. If this was a Star Wars ship, the price wouldn’t be too crazy since you usually get a distinct looking vehicle. I’m still surprised that Lego charged so much for this set considering that Captain Marvel and the fellow marvels aren’t as popular as other heroes are.
I understand that they don’t expect us to buy it, that they’re just trying to see how much and to what extent they can get away with charging insane, 50-100% markups on their usual (already premium) prices. That still doesn’t make me not want to rage over it. Feels like an unsavory practice
Lego employee #1: "The Marvels movie is going to be a disastrous flop." Lego employee #2: "Yeah, there won't be any long term interest in this set." Lego employee #1: "Soooooo, pricing market research?" Lego employee #2: "Pricing market research!"
It is a good set for what it is, like you said. A nice sci-fi spaceship design, with some decent figures. But the price is absolutely ludicrous! Hopefully these things will just rot on the shelves until they hit clearance. Whatever the reason LEGO did this, it's not cool. They're probably hoping to fool gift givers, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc, who don't know LEGO besides that it's expensive and think that this price is normal. Or even an adult that might buy this for themselves. Maybe they liked the ship in the movie, they rarely buy LEGO sets or this is their first set since childhood, or ever, and they don't realize how over-priced this is even for 2023 LEGO.
You’re not raging because you’re about giving honest and thoughtful reviews, not about the click-baiting. It’s why you’re one of the few Lego reviewers I follow.
It's amazing looking back at this from 2024. For the cost of this thing you could get most of the new City Space sets minus the large rover, station, and base.
$90? I was thinking $60 max these days. The ship is fairly simple looking, so it’s not paying for an amazing unique building experience. I’d buy it for $50.
If you’re outraged by the price, vote with your wallet & don’t buy it immediately, wait for a sale instead. Not that many people bought the Hulkbuster & now it’s $200 to $250 off.
This set retails for $159 AUD. To put that in perspective of other sets - the Bad batch Shuttle retails for $10 LESS than this, despite having just under 1000 pieces, and five of some of the best minifigure designs seen in the past 4-5 years. The latest addition the the Hogwarts castle - the Final Duel - is $20 less than this set, but has 6 minifigures and has a large build to go with it. $159 is also the same price (sometimes they are $169) as the Chinese New year sets, all of which have had about 12 minifigures or more in the past 3 years - and advanced building techniques used to make a nice polished set. What is the Hoopty doing at the same price mark - when it doesn't even have a nice underside? It's not swooshable - not when we look at those huge gaps underneath whenever it is swooshed. It's official - Lego are out of their minds.
I definitely am not thrilled at the price but like you said this is testing the water to see what they can increase prices. as a trek fan: you're right The Orville is one of the top if not the top "star trek" series. also worth noting Seth MacFarlane actually player a crew member star trek: Enterprise, Ensign Rivers but only in two episodes.
Feels like some kind of art piece by Lego commenting on the relationship between cost, price and value in a trying economic time. The cherry on top is that no one has seen the source material.
For that price, I could buy another set of the entire Doom series, materials to build an agility course for my dogs, a small IKEA drawer or 120 apple pies from McDonald’s.
JANG! *waves arms frantically* Look at the box art. The fig on the left is using effect pieces on her feet that literally don’t exists. 😮 I would love to hear a bit from you on truth in advertising for this crap too.
Lol didn't notice that. Very obvious compositing mistake; they left two layers visible with both options. To call it "false advertising" though would be laughable Internet age hyperbole.
@@JANGsLEGOreviews all I’m saying is that was the part I was most excited to see and use. I was disappointed to find out that it wasn’t in the box. (I didn’t buy the set)
For roughly the same price you can get the Spider-Man No Way Home Statue of Liberty set which has three Spider-Man figs, a nice Dr Strange fig, three villains and Ned/Mj. Build is pretty cool too.
Lego loves making consumers feel good about buying artificially overpriced sets at hugely-discounted prices. So even if you do find this at clearance 50%, one could make the case that's not actually even getting a good deal. This looks like a $50 set at best.
If that is true and they're testing the market, the easy answer is: DO NOT BUY THIS SET, not yet, wait until it is reasonably discounted otherwise, if their test proves right, all the other prices will grow.
Outside of the obvious over-pricing I think my biggest issue with this set is the Ms. Marvel figure. The design is fine (though I'm not a fan of the new costume), but warm tan was the wrong skin tone for her imo
It’s USD 122 here in Switzerland. I don’t buy LEGO anymore. We consistently pay 15 to 30% more and in addition the stuff has become ridiculously overpriced.
I have not seen any reviews of this set from LAN members, but it would be HILARIOUS if any LAN member actually tried to spin this set off as a good deal price-wise.
Spaceships are Problematic to price. Even if it was half priced, I wouldn't feel that great about it. Because really, its a just box with wings. You can't really Do anything with it, doesn't transform, or split into multiple vehicles; all you can do is swoosh it a bit. I miss the old original IP Space themes, where spaceships had actual Playable Features...
50% of in germany. Picked it up and like it. Hope in other countries is the same reduced price available. Thanks for the great content and merry christmas😊
I'm here just thinking there's a chance you might be able to assemble this set at a cheaper price by ordering the individual pieces, especially if you ignore the stickers which are relatively negligible in contributing to the overall look. The minifigures might no be so simple to get second hand depending on exclusivity, but still.. 😂
I think a vice is exactly what that blue thing is. As for the price, that needs to be _put_ in a vice. 90 bucks is insane for this unimpressive plastic capsule. I like the figures though. The thrust coming out of the feet reminds me of Astro Boy!
I just worry they will interpret a lack of sales from the price as people not wanting the source material. This has happened to many Star Wars subthemes
Although you're right, it still doesn't sit well with me. Why should we be okay with a practice like that? It's a waste of resources and it just comes of as anti-consumer of lego. The whole 'MSRP means nothing because discounts are inevitable' doesn't work in my country.
I think.. Movie-wise how they keep swapping bodies, they should've given 3 colors of flares. Then you could see who was who power flare like & that would be a fun play feature itself.
This looks like something I would build as a kid with just extra pieces, aside from the big windshield. It feels nostalgic in a way, which is NOT what should be happening in a $90 LEGO set. Pretty lame. Only three figures is also really unfortunate; they keep skimping on figures which is really sad.
I love your videos Jang, but I literally clicked on the thumbnail view because this looked like a Starfleet shuttlecraft to me and then you said it! haha If the design were better and the price were less, as a Trek nerd, I could see myself buying several of these to make my own Star Trek shuttles for fun. For that price point and the lack of imagination in the design, I will only get it if its ever marked down. I do find it funny that the retro style 1 X 2 tile next to that vice/drill press looks a lot like a TNG tricorder layout too. :)
if the figures were a bit more special, not cmf level, but nicer, maybe dual moulded arms for Carol, leg prints, accurate power blasts... I might forgive £70. £85? 😂😂 Not in a million years, Lego.
I'm curious if they jack the price up on a set like this because they know it won't be popular? That way the few they do sell will at least make a bit more money for them? There's no way a majority of kids are excited about these characters
There’s a similar price thing . . . Lego Marvel X-Men X-Jet It’s really cool Lego is doing something with the 97 cartoon, but I’m not touching it at that price . . . The build looks a little underwhelming for the price too.
Kamala probably doesn't wear her mask in the movie much but it's offputting that she doesn't have it printed on either side of the head here. Especially when both are pretty redundant happy expressions
Hi Jang! I just wanted to say your videos are always a joy to watch. You have a great eye for design, and hearing your thoughts on various sets and how they could have been better is really eye-opening and has taught me to look at products more critically. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful day!
It's a not a bad set, lots of interior space especially. The bottom of this is a let down for sure; very basic looking and plain. But nothing can escape the fact that this costs almost as much as so many other ship based sets which are all drastically larger with many more pieces and figures. Namely the following: Inquisitor Transport Scythe, Avengers Quinjet, and Galaxy Explorer, all of which have had good healthy discounts. A past set that was similarly sized to this with similar interior volume was the Imperial Transport Marauder, which was $40. So by that logic and what you said, I agree with the notion that this should be half the price at best. or at $50 which would far less outrageous.
Finally picked u[ this set a few weeks ago for just under fifty percent off. Feel like that was a pretty reasonable price. Feel bad for any massive fans of the movie who either couldn't get it at release or had to spend the stupid price
I mean, a sleek looking space ship mostly enclosed, plenty of transparent pieces, spacious (if this were a single person ship it'd be the coolest space camper I've seen). I think there's a market for that beyond the brand. I'm just thinking of the care put into the new Galaxy Explorer and it's hard to put the SRP out of my mind. Been all kinds of sets going for larger than usual discounts lately, so I wouldn't write off getting it, but that also means I'd wait and maybe prioritize it below other sets that are already on their way out. Now, if GotG had the original movie team all in one set then my usual value assessment might be harder. Or the old SW bounty hunter lineup. But they seem to want to split things into several sets, freeing me from the FOMO a bit...
Why do I think you should not rage of the price? *Answered in the video.*
I'm not. I'm laughing at it's silly price.

It's not just the box art - most of the pictures on the Lego store page have what look like chrome-finished bricks too. Quite misleading.
I first noticed this with the Razor Crest(s). I was hoping off the promo photos they would be chrome/silver but knew deep down it was just rendered chicanery.
Well they do show the actual colour on there website, plus when Lego highlight metal on there packaging.
Yeah when it was first revealed I thought it was the metallic sort of finish they put on sets like the Iron Man helmet.
It’s not just the box. Even the promo photos make the set look incredibly shiny. Absolutely deplorable in my opinion.

I'm curious if they jack the price up on a set like this because they know it won't be popular? That way the few they do sell will at least make a bit more money for them? There's no way a majority of kids are excited about these characters
I kind of wonder if they sometimes sabotage a product so it would for example compete with Space Town.
There’s a similar price thing . . . Lego Marvel X-Men X-Jet
It’s really cool Lego is doing something with the 97 cartoon, but I’m not touching it at that price . . . The build looks a little underwhelming for the price too.
Kamala probably doesn't wear her mask in the movie much but it's offputting that she doesn't have it printed on either side of the head here. Especially when both are pretty redundant happy expressions
I don't care from what movie it is as long as it looks cool
Hi Jang! I just wanted to say your videos are always a joy to watch. You have a great eye for design, and hearing your thoughts on various sets and how they could have been better is really eye-opening and has taught me to look at products more critically. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Oof that underside! Literally how they did star wars ships and classic space 20 years ago! Still, good review as always
If you bought 4 of these ut would almost be as much as the lion knights castle, imagine 4 of these next to that set
$45 dollars per kitten
