Wow, a whole Lincoln wall! Incredible! "Lincoln As I Knew Him" sounds really interesting. I'll add it to my wishlist! Also, that cookbook is fantastic! Great video!
I purchased a bag of Lincoln books today - including Abe Lincoln of Pigeon Creek by William E. Wilson. I am excited to read them. I plan to dig into one of the books for Nonfiction November. Now I want the Lincoln-era cookbook.
Yeah, get yourself some acid-free Broadart bookcovers.get yourself a cast iron dutch oven, put it on a campfire, your eating early Lincoln style, before Mary.
Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era. That would have been neat to live in Lincoln's time. However ... it was a rough life. And as far as cooking, I need my microwave for my popcorn, so maybe not in his life time ... LOL. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.
@@billruttenberg Definitely not in his time, you would be on the battlefields and you're eating Lincoln style, how ashamed my English teacher would be, she hated the mixing up of you're with your, which she tried to drum into my thick head.
Thanks Lindsey. I have read a lot of them. Since joining BookTube my reading has expanded into so many other genres that my percentage is a lot lower than it once was because I am not spending as much time on them, but I still have new titles coming into the library. However, I would like to remedy that. I just have to be careful because I don't want to get burned out on Lincoln. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.
Thanks for stopping by Melissa. I do love my Lincoln book hauls! Do you have some Lincoln stuff for your American History project? If so, which books? Thanks for watching. Have a great week.
@@billruttenberg I've got a few Lincoln books on my list. I've also got a book about the wives of civil war generals. If I were to skip to the civil war books at some point, should I read the overview books first, or the biographies? I kind of like biographies.
@@TimeTravelReads I would read what you like the best Mellissa. Start with the biographies and then pick up one of the general histories. Just remember the Civil War is a huge subject. You can get sucked in pretty fast! Hope this helps. Have a great week.
Good morning, Bill. Loved this, but who doesn't admire Abe Lincoln? A suggestion: it would help if you added the list in your written intro, as sometimes you do not hold the book up long enough to get the title and the author. I missed the author of the one on friendship with Joshua Speed. I loved the Ruth Painter Randall book on Mary Lincoln; it was the first sympathetic view of her after all the bad impressions given by others.
Hey Barbara! Thanks for watching. Sorry about not holding that up long enough. The author was Charles B. Strozier. I will try to get those written into the description next time. Again, sorry about that. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.
Your friend forever sounds great. The Ruth painter Randall book sounds like something I want to read. I have several on Mary Todd and would like to add this one
Thanks Vickie. I am excited about them. I really liked Ruth Painter Randall's book Lincoln's Sons, so I am guessing this will be a good one. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.
Thanks Vin! What subject do you think you own the most books of? Mine is definitely Lincoln, followed by the Civil War. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.
The Culinary Lincoln? Dang, there really aren't many corners left unexplored in the world of Lincoln books. Hope it provides some good times with your daughter. I'll have to keep that Elizabeth Keckley memoir in mind. The book about Lincoln and Speed sounds interesting too. I can't imagine having the ability to stumble into town and ask a complete stranger for a loan, only to get offered a place to stay. But I guess that's why I'm not Lincoln. 😁 Aw, a sympathetic portrait of Mary and the Lincoln marriage doesn't sound like much fun. 😜 In all seriousness, I tend not to like the older biographies so much because they're often too fawning for my taste, but the cover on that one makes it sound like Mary typically caught a lot of disrespect even then. Interesting. But anyhow, nice acquisitions. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Bryan! I am excited to try some recipes and see if my daughter likes it. I thought it would be fun. You'll like to read about Keckley. She is an interesting figure and definitely an example of what a go-getter spirit can do! She was pretty amazing. As far as Mary Lincoln goes, A lot of biographers threw her under the bus and were not very nice to her. Now, with that said, she earned a lot of the bad press that she got, but she also loved her husband greatly. She is a difficult figure to try to figure out because of her mental diseases that she had. Of course now they are reevaluating the situation and they believe that she had other issues causing the "mental problems". Some of the possibilities are diabetes, arthritis, pernicious anemia ... so, you have to look at the case with a grain of salt because all of those without proper medical care can cause severe issues in the body. Anyway, I am looking forward to reading the book. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.
I have two editions of "Lincoln's Table" by Donna McCreary a cookbook which consists of recipes from Lincoln's time. In 2008, I loaned the books to the Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial Commission in which they used for a banquet they held for the Lincoln Bicentennial in 2009.
