    Thanks for making this video. It’s good to see a TJ in the wild.

    Nice to see a fairly stock/ manual do this trail. Interesting angle. I find myself picking my line as if I were there. It is noticeable that you are driving a manual by just how smooth you drive it. 95% of the guys running this seem to be running automatic transmissions. All kinds of jerky gas/ brake whiplash nonsense from the mall crawler crowd. We tried to get to the Rubicon in 2019 but the snow pack messed with our plans. Hoping to get there this year if the Kung Flu will allow us. Thanks for the video.

    I was thinking about doing Jeep jamboree but I saw on there website today that 37’s were the minimum size.

      Look at Jeeper Jamboree. Minimum lift of 3.5" and 33" tire. Jeep Jamboree USA's requirements are absurd and overkill

      @@harrisonhellmich81 I know it’s because of the time constraints and amount of Jeeps to get through the trail

      I'll admit I'm a little nervous. I was drawn to this video because of the thumbnail. I have a similar looking jeep. 03 Rubicon 5.5 inch Rubicon express long arm w/roughly the metric equivalent of 35's on the factory wheels. it's pretty much stock aside from some bumpers, rack and winch.
      Do you have an opinion on doing the trip with the hardtop and doors? (I think that's the way I want do it, but I'm looking for advise)
      Any advise would be appreciated. It will only myself and my wife doing the trip.

      Each time we have done it we’ve gone with hard top and doors. Yes it’s a bit more weight and you can’t necessarily see as well, but it offers protection (sun, rain, rocks and wind during trip up and back). And you can even take a break from the dust and get some air conditioning if you want haha. There has been rainy times and everyone is scrambling for tarps and getting dumped on. Also provides a sleeping alternative than setting up a tent in rain. Recline the seats and don’t have to dry your tent. But if you want the adventure of rolling in the rain or getting baked by the sun go topless! :)

    Love seeing the Rubicon TJ live up to its name! What size tires are you running? Lift? And the camera is so smooth and clear, what did you use?

    • @ryanbaillie8275

      3" lift and 33" tires. It was a GoPro, Im going to say a hero 7ish? and for most of the shots i used the little flexible arm mount clipped to the top of the door jam. It has decent stabilization on it. I used Final Cut Pro X for the editing. Thanks for watching and reaching out :)

      @@ryanbaillie8275 awesome! I have a TJ with 33s and a 2.5” lift. I aim to tackle the Rubicon trail someday after I gain some more trail experience. A GoPro 7 sounds right, I’ve heard good reviews about it. Thanks! Happy Jeepin’ !🤙

    Hey! I’m know you’ve stated it’s on 33” tires and in one place said 3” lift another comment 3.5”
    Would you be nice enough to give me the exact details on the lift and tires? Brand or lift etc and are the Toyo mt’s 33x12.50x15 or 305/70/16?
    Really love the look of this rig is why I ask, thanks!!

    I came across this today planning for 2021. I have a 2006 rubicon with a similar setup and same color. After the trip was there any noticeable damage. I was curious about the gas tank area and stock rock sliders since I have the same. Thanks in advance.

    • @ryanbaillie8275
      @ryanbaillie8275  4 роки тому +1

      Hard to say because this Jeep has been over the rubicon numerous times so there’s some cumulative debts and scrapes etc underneath but nothing that’s been serious. I can say there was nothing that needed to be addressed by a shop after and nothing that stood out lol. You will drag, bump, scrape and skid. Just part of the fun. It’s all about picking the best line and having a good spotter and adding/moving rocks when needed etc. and go slow and take your time. It’s the ones that rush that bounce all over and slide off rocks.

      Thank you for the kind words! This video was compiled from various clips taken from the start to the finish to highlight most of the areas. It doesn't really do the beauty, difficulty or size of rocks any justice but it gives the idea and when you see it in person it will blow you away. We went again this year but I was driving most of it and coaching a new driver when I wasn't, but got some great drone vid of rubicon springs area and the lookout. The vid is combined with footage I took up in San Juan Islands. Enjoy :)

      As long as you are in one of the front groups you are usually ok. This particular trip all of the groups came through pretty efficiently but sometimes you get amateur hour and the back group comes in significantly late. You cant really go that fast through any where on that trail though. If you do you will get to your destination days later because you will be waiting for new axles and various other parts to be delivered to you on the trail lol

    would you say in August there are enough people on the trail you would go alone or not that busy?

    • @ryanbaillie8275
      @ryanbaillie8275  5 років тому

      joe barksdale I would always recommend taking at least another person with you in case something happens and you need help, medically or mechanically. There is no close help at all. Ham radio would be good. The repeater freq for the valley escapes me but the sheriff monitors it when they are on the trail. There’s a helipad at rubicon springs and at the start but not much else in the way of help.
      When the jamboree is there there are TONS of jeeps. But aside from the jamboree there were little clusters of other people in jeeps and Toyota’s that would pass through camp. Someone would eventually come back. Don’t count on cell service. Spot two way satellite messenger or similar would be a good thing.
      Hope this helps :) safe wheeling!

      @@ryanbaillie8275 sounds good thanks, hard to find other jeeps to go due to work and all, but i figure with two people and one jeep should be fine in peak season just wanted to ask somebody who has done the trail. how rough was the trail, I got 3.5 terra flex lift on 37s winch metal cloak skids on 18rubicon recon

    • @ryanbaillie8275
      @ryanbaillie8275  5 років тому

      joe barksdale it’s a difficult trail and a good spotter will make all the difference. My gf just got a JL and did the same lift with 37s. We will be taking it up there for the first time this year. Usually the jamboree people go up prior and make the trail a bit more doable and shift some rocks and whatnot. May be easier going up right around then. Can get pretty gnarly other parts of the year. Rocks shift and it becomes a new trail/obstacle :) private message me your number. I have some friends that like wheeling too maybe we can all connect.

    Some music might help.

    • @ryanbaillie8275
      @ryanbaillie8275  4 роки тому +4

      steven reeves thank you for the suggestion, however I purposefully did not put music because the purpose of video was more of a scrapbook piece for my dad and I on this trip than an entertainment piece. I put it here so he could view it and maybe other people could get some good info as it is a popular trail and thought they may want to hear the convo about the trail and/or picking lines. Surprisingly it got a good amount of views. Thanks for watching!
