I visit Bonita Springs often. Everyone and everything is already near sea level. 18 feet of surge will leave the place a disaster area.
True because it isn't just calm water rising. It is walls of water loaded with debris crashing through everything. I am near Disney World so no worry about storm surge but we are in the path of everything else.

Not that long ago, maybe ten years ago, TV local news would send video crews out to record a big storm's effects. Thanks to cost cutting, now you just have studio talking heads in front of a weather map and video taken by Twitter uploaders, storm chasers, citizens with cellphones and government fixed cameras. Pretty crappy coverage, all talk and continuous lectures on safety to fill the news hole.
It was more recent than that, 2018 had that goof ball weatherman acting like he was getting blown over then those 2 kids in basketball shorts walked by the camera

I know howto use a tape measure and I am 6ft and the surge was higher than I could reach on my tippy toes while standing 2ft above sea level at high tide. So 4.8 my A. 9ft-9.5ft. This hurricane we got nothing so far. Maybe 6 inches of storm surge we shall see what happens tonight but its already passed us.
