Peoples of Anatolia and Thrace were Indo European. Alain Danielou a French Indologist wrote a book with the title Music and the Power of Sound . The book shows a comparison of the ancient music known to the Greeks and the Raga system.

    2. More than a comparison, Alain Danielou believed that the ancient modes were introduced by Orpheus, Linus and Mousaios the 3 Thracians from Pieria. Thracians were Indo Europeans and they were related to the Anatolian populations.

The Tambur s first pair of strings is the only played string course. The other pairs are sympathetic strings. This is like a simple sitar. To the sitar were added many sympathetic strings(to increase the harmonics' production). Maybe the same group of people took the tambur to India where it was adopted and made into a more complex instrument with richer harmonic sounds.

I just started getting into Raga and Maqam. Bought a book by Thomas Mikosch "Oriental Jazz Improvisation - Microtonality" where he fuses those scales. There are indeed many parallels between them.

Good performance but content and explanation was lacking. What raag and maqam were you playing and what is the history of them? Without this information story was left half untold
