6:16 hoya is extremely toxic to parrots. I lost my first pair years back when they got to mine, they ate square centimeter total, one died in few minutes, other over the night.
Plant ID can sometimes be tough, I would have assumed the Alocasia you have to be Caladium since yours look so different to the Alocasia that I have in my terrariums.
Once again, excellent video! Clearly answered some of my questions I sent you in my e-mail regarding aviary build. Nice research and useful list on aviary safe plants!!! Love your videos!!! Note: Did you get to see email I sent you? Too long to post here or by phone test. Thanks for the excellent information you provide to your viewers!! God Bless.
Thanks for sharing your video. I looked closely at the list but didn't see I've. I think it's just common I've we get in the UK. Hedera helix I think it's called. Is it safe. Thanks in advance. 👍
Hi Dave thankyou. Several types of Ivy-including the common English ivy-can be deadly to birds. It can cause gastrointestinal issues, convulsions, skin irritation, and more.
The majority of jasmin species are safe because they are a nontoxic plant. With the exeption of Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium spp.) which some people also call jasmine, it has a moderate toxicity that may cause weakness, respiratory problems, seizures or death in pets
Although Neem leaves and seeds are unlikely to cause toxicity issues in very small quantities, if a bird has access to many seeds and continually ingests them, risks present themselves - a risk that bird owners don't need to be taking. Neem oil is made to be used externally, not internally so best to keep away from birds.
Pine is considered a safe tree for birds, but do be mindful of any sap produced by the tree, as this can stick to your birds feathers. Additionally, pine has been listed as potentially harmful in some articles, but those mainly relate to wood shavings and so not relevant to bird keeping.
Yes caladiums are sometimes reffered to as elephant ears they belongs to the same family as colocasia and alocasia and are toxic to both birds and any other animal that chews on the leafs.
Wow thats cold !!! Where are you located ? you can always use artificial plants also if you want to decorate an aviary, but ive never seen anyone keeping birds at those temps unless they are indoors in a climate controled room.
I've got a wide variety (50+) plants in my aviary. Natives, grasses, noxious weeds, fruiting plants & "poisonous plants" too...no issues whatsover. Poisonous varieties such as golden cane palm, hydrangea, ficus(figs), ligustrum (privet), buxus, frangipanni, murraya, tobacco & solanum. Birds are smart, they know what they can and can't eat. Basically I use plants from experience and what I've seen in other collections. I really want to plant hemp in my aviary!
Thats amazing!!! I was amazed to find out I had one that was toxic to them in the aviary, but at the same time its been there for a few years and has never caused any problems. Hemp is an amazing plant, Ive seen a few breeders with hemp in their aviary. If it was legal I would have it here aswell in my aviary.
🤣🤣🤣 where are you from G Bibbs ? Different parts of the world say differently. Thats how we say it over here in the U.S, but based on the way your saying to say it im assuming your either from the land down under or some part of europe maybe UK ?
Thanks! My cockatiel loves nibbling the spider plant pups I prune off along with the long stems that I cut up and make into bird toys!

How about common fruit trees and plants like mango, strawberries, blueberries, banana, pomegranate, watermelon etc.?
Plant ID can sometimes be tough, I would have assumed the Alocasia you have to be Caladium since yours look so different to the Alocasia that I have in my terrariums.

I was told that jasmine is poison or finches. Is that true?
The majority of jasmin species are safe because they are a nontoxic plant. With the exeption of Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium spp.) which some people also call jasmine, it has a moderate toxicity that may cause weakness, respiratory problems, seizures or death in pets
I have jasmine in my aviary and the Star finches nest in it

@@paradiseaviary thanks
You should throw some baby crickets in there they are very healthy for birds
why would you suggest feeding meat to an animal that is 100% herbivore? Their digestive systems aren't designed to process it unlike chickens.
0:40 those are actually not alocasia they are caladiums
Are you sure that's elephant ears? They look like caladiums to me
Yes caladiums are sometimes reffered to as elephant ears they belongs to the same family as colocasia and alocasia and are toxic to both birds and any other animal that chews on the leafs.
It gets -15 here, so I can't have any of the plants
Wow thats cold !!! Where are you located ? you can always use artificial plants also if you want to decorate an aviary, but ive never seen anyone keeping birds at those temps unless they are indoors in a climate controled room.
Those are actually caladiums.
Anybody know if bamboo plant is safe for birds?NO the lucky bamboo, the one that grows very tall. 😂 thanks.

Some of these plants listed are poisonous to birds and other pets like Kalanchoe, Lilac, etc.
True, if anyone is watching this like me searching for actual safe plants, it's super dangerous. I knew it was wrong the moment I saw hoya :(
There are some toxic plants for bugs, bugs can cause serious losses.
There are some plants in your list that are very dangerous. Also some plants are maybe safe for finches but not for parrots.
Do you have any videos on which plants are safe for finches and which are safe for budgies and parrots? thanks
Por favor realiza los mismos videos también en español como lo estaba haciendo
