    Found you bc I have a YS640 and Kamado Joe, and am doing similar experiments. Your video was great in that aspect. However my motivation for commenting is that as a father of a 12 yo daughter myself, I have to compliment you on the daddy/daughter aspect. She has a great dad!

    I've had a big green egg for many many years and my buddy has been trying to get me to switch to a Traeger or Rectec. The ease of just turning it on and walking a way is a bit tempting but it's really hard to screw up in the BGE with a temp regulator and a bit of time. Either way I just checked the weather for this weekend and I'm buying some ribs. I love that you included your daughter in this as well - she's adorable and knows her ribs!

    • @BehindTheFoodTV
      @BehindTheFoodTV  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Eric. You want to know a secret? The BGE is actually easier to clean, light, & keep temp than the pellet grill. And it produces better flavors. And I can do a 30 hour low and slow cook on a 25lb brisket without adding fuel. Watch my videos on the Kick Ash can and basket, the GrillBlazer Grill Gun and the Signals and Bellows. They are all in this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PL5_wF98ziP9awgXN_FEdkqZba2KZOmLrB.html. Then challenge your buddy to a cook off.
      And thanks for the kind words about Leah. She’s my everything!
      Now what time should we be there to taste those ribs?

    • @trito408
      @trito408 3 роки тому +1

      @@BehindTheFoodTV I can understand the cleaning but wouldn't a pellet grill be easier to light and maintain temp since both are automatic?

    • @BehindTheFoodTV
      @BehindTheFoodTV  3 роки тому +1

      @@trito408 Hi Trey. It's definitely easier to light. If you're using the BGE with a temperature controller like the ThermoWorks Signals/Billows (my review of those: ua-cam.com/video/sDpl3avQd8w/v-deo.html) you get better control with the BGE. Pellet grills control the temperature by adding or reducing the flow of pellets (wood fuel), just like how you would do it with a stick burner. It's an imprecise method, and takes time for the fire's intensity to go up and down and then affect your cook temp. With a Kamado style cooker like the BGE, temp is controlled by adding or removing airflow from the fire. If you've ever blown on a fire (or smothered one), you know how quickly fire reacts to oxygen - which combined with the ceramic's ability to hold temperature makes for a very very stable temperature.

    Both looked good. I am not a big fan of 'fall of the bone' ribs. There comes a point where 'fall off the bones' equates to mushy; which is not good eats. Anyone can make 'fall off the bone' ribs. Just wrap them and let the steam do the work. My preference is to have the ribs juicy and bite off the bone. It's about the texture and flavor.

    so does the BGE give more smoke flavor than the pellet grill and I wonder about putting a damper on a pellet grill exhaust to keep more smoke inside for more flavor. Thinking about buying a pellet grill but worried about loosing smoke flavor

    • @BehindTheFoodTV
      @BehindTheFoodTV  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Zipp. The BGE will always give more smoke flavor than any pellet grill. Closing the damper is a bad idea - it can create dirty smoke. If you do end up getting a pellet grill and miss the smoke flavor I’d suggest an A-MAZE-N pellet tube for supplemental smoke (amzn.to/3vfn00U). I’m curious why you are thinking about a pellet grill though. With the right accessories the BGE is easier to use than a pellet grill. Are you looking for more capacity?

    • @BehindTheFoodTV
      @BehindTheFoodTV  3 роки тому

      Thanks - and absolutely. With the Kamado accessories available that make temp control easier, there's really no advantage to a pellet grill nowadays. You'll want to get a ThermoWorks Signals and Bellows for temp control (ua-cam.com/video/sDpl3avQd8w/v-deo.html) for sure, and likely a Grill Gun (ua-cam.com/video/g-VVeDIosVs/v-deo.html) and maybe a Kick Ash Basket and Can (ua-cam.com/video/ZSKmZ1YRfhU/v-deo.html) but you will be much happier with a Kamado than a pellet grill in terms of flavor and cooking experience. Plus if you decide to get a pellet grill there are a ton of better smokers than the Traeger.
