  • Just myself and my son messing around with the crawler, making a small wooden log recovery excercise with a chain. Introducing my son to the art of using machines safely, to help us. Obviously the log is small but its a simulation for learning. The thumb nail photo was the same crawler when it was found in a barn. It took me about 7 months to locate who owned the barn and the land before I could obtain the crawler as it was all overgrown. The crawler had sat in the barn for around 40 years before I purchased it and got permission to remove it, by METAMORPHICWONDERS

Nothing builds happy memories between dad and lad than machinery. When I was 4 or 5 I would sit up till all hours watching my old man prepare his bikes for racing the next day. Then later on when i was older, we would go to watch the club-man practices at Aintree during the week. We would get there on his CZ trails bike, and when we got there he would let me ride it around the fields, with him riding pillion because my feet couldn't touch the ground.

I did not know these existed, what a beautiful machine, , I am only guessing that the small log you pulled with it is just a fraction of it's potential strength, Thanks for posting, This vid will be a real memory for the both of You.

Nice story, great to see you got the old crawler working again. Good to spend quality time with your son the years go by so fast.
I like those Ransome machines, not common here in the states, but look like tough little crawlers. Do you plan on painting to original colors or leaving the patina.

I like the original rust patina, We stripped it down and rebuilt it leaving the rust on the outside. The inside and gearbox etc are mint. This had been put away years ago as a nearly new machine , the rust appeared whilst it was stored. The engine is lovely inside, the bearings are perfect. Any parts which were worn or damaged we replaced with old new stock. I could have pained it so it looked new again, but we prefer the rusty aged look.... I added the small fuel tank on the side , this is so I only use a litre of fuel at a time rather than filling the 20 ltr fuel tank and the petrol going stale.. The original fuel lines and tank are all still in their places, just not hooked up....

Would you mind taking a photo of the Ransomes decal(behind jerry can) and sending it to me please for copying for my recently restored MG40?

I can do, but I bolted the tool box over the decal. I will remove the box and photo the decal for you , or make a detailed video and publish it for you to watch. Give me a couple of weeks when I get some time and I will complete this.
