HEY, YOU READING THIS...YOU ARE AWESOME! HAVE AN AMAZING DAY! 🌞
THANK YOU, YOU TOO
Thanks
Song of the day: Enter Sandman-Metellica
my grandmother has a Edison c-19 record player that still works it originally belonged to my great grandparents
and they bought it new. She ones over 1,000$ in original Edison records
I LOVE YOU AND YOUR CONTENT EVEN THO I HAVE A CROSLEY 😭😭
Happy New Year, Jarrett! Here is a suggestion for the song of the day: Moonlight Shadow - Mike Oldfield
Way awesome song...Maggie Reilly really sells it.
Playing a gold or platinum record is the most metal thing a vinyl enthusiast can do.
It's the most metal way of playing music
Misery business has double platinum
Song of the day: In Your Face - Children of Bodom
Rip Alexi Laiho 💔
This is what it has to be
I would say that gold/platinum records are more like trophies awarded to athletes. Doctors don’t ‘collect’ certificates. They need them to be able to exercise their profession. Musicians don’t necessarily need to have gold/platinum records awards to play music, do they? But if they get them it shows they have sold a lot of product and that not necessarily implies that product is of the highest quality lol.
Stil find it a little weirdt that 150 people count the same as 1, but the money.
@@dashofawesome64 a stream is not a purchase. That counting at all is a comparatively recent thing. Not that long ago, a song being heard on the radio, the only way to really listen to it without buying it, didn’t count at all. All that counted was physical sales.
@@danieldaniels7571 I find it all about the views and not how much money goes around. A person that should get one is S3RL cause i can tell you you heard his stuff if you a little bit of an internet person.
Thanks for posting this video. I have had some knowledge about the Gold/Platinum process but I am always learning new things. I read somewhere that at one point the RIAA refused to award records with Platinum status that were released prior to 1976. Somewhere down the line that policy must have changed given how many platinum awards the Beatles have....thanks again!
Thank YOU for watching! 😊
So there's this very famous mariachi artist named Vincente Fernandez, who happens to own a restaurant. If you go inside, there's basically nothing on the walls besides his gold and platinum plaques
Vicente
@@danieldaniels7571 thank you
@@whoislu... No problem. He’s like the Mexican Elvis, and one of the best selling recording artists of all time.
@@whoislu... Every Mexican knows that guy, including me.
I feel like if they’re just Gold plated or platinum plated, they’re not actually Gold or Platinum just knockoffs of what a fully gold/platinum record should be.
Like having a bunch of knockoff Rolex watches on display in your restaurant.
Cool for theming I guess
Can't even plate a copy of the album being honored? That seems EXTREMELY lazy lol!!
I know right? Lol 😂😂
For a long time it wasn’t unusual for the album being honored to not even exist on vinyl.
I own a platinum award. It's the CD and cassette for Natalie Merchant - Tigerlily. It was given to one of the local radio stations and they ended up auctioning it off for charity.
I used to work in broadcasting, and most of the radio stations I worked at had many of them on the wall. Usually they’re given to influential stations that report their playlists to trade magazines that play the song early, before it becomes a hit.
Song of the day: Ring-a-Ding-Ding by Frank Sinatra
Song Of The Day - Paperback Witer - The Beatles
The Grateful Dead tried to play one of their gold albums and it turned out to be Kenny Rogers
When you said "... Instead of the mothers..." at 4:02, my first thought was Frank Zappa's band The Mothers of Invention.
Any problem with playing these is that they won't sound right because the grooves get somewhat filled in by the plating material, so it'll sound kind of muffled.
But, what if you were to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on pressing a record in pure Gold or Platinum?
(Instead of just plating/covering a different material)
Regarding around 4:50 in...John Densmore was looking at one of his Doors gold records and noticed that the bands didn't quite match up to the number of tracks, and one of the bands was not nearly wide enough to fit the entire song it allegedly contained! So he broke the record out of the frame and found that it was a flexi-disc. He put it on the turntable and heard Rod McKuen reciting poetry!
Ooof, I’d be super pissed if I was him😂
That’s like winning a sports trophy and then realizing it has someone else’s name on it.
Why do they do that? Would it be really hard to use the artist's actual record? Rather than gold or platinum plating some other musician's record and then giving it as an award to some other artist! The whole thing just doesn't make sense!
My uncle received a platinum record for his work on the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. It looks great of course. Cool to see a real one.
Song of the day: See Emily Play - Pink Floyd
Back in '86, in a car careening down the 405 freeway on the way to Disneyland, stoned out of my head, a friend played See Emily Play for me for the first time. Literally changed the course of my life.
At one time, a million sales was required for a gold award, at least in the UK. Not sure why that changed.
Because people are soft these days and everyone’s feelings are hurt if they don’t get a gold medal for effort 🤣
Different group started handing out awards.
I have seen the official gold record for Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Very cool! 😁👍
I own a platinum single. When doves cry by Prince. I bought it over 20 years ago at Sotheby’s. I always wondered what is on the record.
Get a suitcase turntable and give it a listen my bro🙌
It’ll probably ruin the needle on that turntable, but the suitcase turntable needles should be thrown out anyways lol
It’ll be good enough to actually hear the album though*
So like you mentioned RIAA is an American company so some artist from say Canada might have a gold record with significantly less sales because Canada has a different industry standard.
This video was sadly very US-centric without acknowledging it, or mentioning that sales awards exist in other countries. American UA-camrs have a tendency to do that.
Song of the Day: Mira Niñita - Los Jaivas
Happy New Year!!!
Song of the day: Duran Duran - Wild Boys
You’re my favorite vinyl collector brother! I want to make my own vinyl videos soon.. I hope mine are as high quality as yours!!! I’ll try my hardest! Thanks for all the great videos, it’s always a pleasure to watch them!
Song of the day - Children by Robert Miles
great song!
I have my glow sticks ready....
I actually have an LP called "Como's Golden Record" which has "Catch a Falling Star" and others by Perry Como.
I see you've got Oncle Jazz in the background, I love that album
Next song of the day. Stone Cold Crazy - by Queen
Happy new year to you and such a professional show you put on. Keep up the great informative work and soon you will have 200,000 subs and definitely more after that.
Very interesting video. I was surprised to learn that metal mother discs were used for awards. But actually Gold Records awarded to artists prior to 1958 by the record companies themselves. This practice dates back to the 78 RPM era. You may want to do a follow-up video on this because it would explain the entire concept of Gold Records.
I'm wondering the cost and trouble making one yourself..... 25cent yard sale no-name record, gold Krylon, art store frame, some color printed art graphics, voila!
It’s been done before and sold for top dollar on eBay to people who didn’t know any better.
Great video loved it
Song of the day:
Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group
Also, Happy 2021, Jarrett! Hope this year goes better!
This is probably my new favorite non-comedy UA-cam channel. Do you script these extensively before you start filming?
Song of the Day: 10,000 Days by TOOL
I just want to say thank you for using a Gaga pic from the ARTPOP era, really made my day. So for that, song of the day ARTPOP by Lady Gaga
The record company’s system for rating record sounds like something a multi level marketing scheme would do lol
I love this video so much, even the ads!!
Amazing as always brother. Always had a question about platinum records, thanks for explaining.
Thank you for watching Gregg! 👍 more great stuff to come!
@@vinyleyezz Yes!!!
Cool song let it be by the beatles
This was worth the wait.
I need that oncle jazz record album you got behind you as well for sure. Men I Trust is so good.
I live in Nashville TN and have visited several museums out here. I have seen many gold and platinum albums displayed in the museums for the Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell Museums. Great stuff to look at. Suggestion for Song Of The Day - Phaedra by Tangerine Dream.
Song of the day: Hot for Teacher - Van Halen
I saw a golden record once at a flea market, and though it was said to be genuine, it was destroyed and rotting. I mean it was from a famous hungarian artists who turned into an alcoholic, so it would make sense.
Happy new year. I have a new Sade song I just heard. It's from the 2018 movie "Widows". Wanted to suggest it for song of the day, "The Big Unknown". It's a haunting song. Sounds like a song that should have been on "Love Deluxe".
Just got an AT LP120 today, and it’s Bluetooth for wireless headphones, which will go great for when the speakers are too loud at night. Song of the day: Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus
I clicked as soon as I saw the Notification
thank you so much! 2021 will be a great year with MORE VIDEOS! Thank you for your patience! 🙏 😊
Hi happy New Year. The song of the day is called beyond here lies nothing from Bob Dillan. Its a good jam
Song of the day:
Bullet with butterfly wings, by the smashing pumpkins
Song of the Day: Invitation - Cal Tjader
I saw a gold record for “Sgt. Pepper” in a music shop (they had several other albums) but the record was “Magical Mystery Tour”. I thought that was funny.
Song of the day blow up the outside world-Soundgarden
Song of the day I’ve just seen a face - The Beatles
Song of the Day- Beast of Burdon by The Rolling Stones.
The first gold record was awarded to Glenn Miller on February 10, 1942 for selling 1.2 million copies of “Chattanooga Choo Choo.” It was presented to Glenn by RCA which is why the RIAA doesn’t list it. It’s on display at CU in Boulder Colorado and is a stamper painted with gold leaf. For those interested, I did a video on my channel about it.
Song of the day
Michael Jackson : Billie Jean
Song of the day: Big Iron ~ Marty Robbins
Love seeing your Oncle Jazz vinyl in the background!!
Big time rush- paralyzed awesome video dude
So why doesn’t Glenn Miller’s Chattanooga Choo Choo count as the first gold record in 1941?
Song of the Day
Hard Times - The Jetzons
You probably haven’t heard of it. It was made in ‘84 but just became popular as of recent.
That is a good song. I’m surprised someone else is commenting about it.
@@johnfrederick3022 I know! I have the limited edition single record of it they printed last may. One of my favorites.
Some of it was referenced in Sonic 3's Ice Cap Zone music.
@@RETROMAN-UA-cam-Channel Yeah i know. My friend is a Sonic fan and he showed me the song. But honestly I just liked the song for itself.
@@Kaizomusicofficial Me too!
Song of the day: squealer by ty segall
...and, Paul MacCartney was the first to be awarded a RHODIUM record...for all The Beatles’ sales, solo, and Wings’
I'd love to have got into Vinyl Moon. But the collector in me would want to own them all.
I think it's too late to do that without spending more than I can justify. 🤣
Haha. I can understand that. But also, why stop yourself from starting the fun now?? Live for the future!
Song of the day suggestion: Always by Blink-182
Song of the Day:
Make Your Move-Diana Ross
It's a shame that it's not the actual record, even though they aren't meant to be played.
But I guess it makes sense as most of those probably don't even have a vinyl release.
Did you have any speed issues with this the Fluance RT81 turntable? I have heard many people complain about having to adjust the speed with the adjustments on the bottom of the player. If so, once you adjust it, does it stay consistent at that speed or does it fluctuate, meaning you would have to adjust it frequently. Also how is the sound quality compared to the Audio-Technica LP120x-USB. Which would you recommend more? Thanks!
I recommend going with a vintage turntable made before 1988 that has adjustable pitch and a strobe. If you’re having speed issues you can see them, and easily correct them. If the speed is fluctuating after you adjust it, a little deoxit in the pitch adjustment pot will almost always fix it.
Nice Men I Trust Lp thats a great one!
Song of the day - The Remedy by Puscifer
I just got that same men I trust oncle jazz record!!! It is mixed so well! Did you get the limited edition?
In my country, local gold and platinum discs, even back in time when they were barely relevant, were a total joke. The milestone to note was the quantity of albums delivered to stores, NOT the quantity of albums effectively sold to the public. Those quantities were derisory: “golden disc”, for example, were just 10,000 albums. And finally, after the award ceremony, all that gold and platinum-coated dudes almost always end its life abandoned at the record company’s cellars. My dad used to work some decades ago as security guard at the EMI branch. He told me all that.
song of the day--------- tupac- so many tears
nice vid song of the day : Sneakers- teen idles
Song of the day: You - Candlebox
song if the day: my way - frank sinatra
I see that record for Men I Trust in the background. I new you had taste, I just didn't know you had *taste*
You can buy some on Amazon
What an amazing song of the day!!
Ps. I always use thuis song to test if the stereo is working
ZZ Top offered a custom gold record award for "Fandango" through their website a while back. It was $250. Pretty cool
Song of the day= Mannish Boy-Jimi hendrix
Ur the best bro
Hide your pain Harold actually Andras Arato, a Hungarian retired electro engineer.
And Im from Hungary too :)
Song of the day: Rock and Roll all night from KISS
Yeah! I wanted to use Hide the Pain Harold in here somewhere, he’s awesome haha
Song of the day : Man At Work - Overkill
The RIAA does not give the artist their gold or platinum plaque for free. The artist has to pay $500 for a RIAA membership then it’s another $500 for the base award in a plain wooden frame if you want to be fancy with artwork and all that other stuff the price goes up, so it is not free and also there are many other companies now where artists can get their plaques from, the RIAA is very outdated. And it’s the same for TV award shows the award the artist receives on stage is not the real award they take home. It’s just a prop, they take home an order form with a specific order identification number that verifies their nomination win they have to pay for the award and then it is sent to them in the mail. Therefore, the awards are never given for free. You have to pay for them.
do the history about Van Halen plz
what’s up my man? fairly new subscriber, and have already learned so much. After watching many of your videos, i have ordered the fluance rt85 which should be here any day. i also went ahead and ordered the fluance SS bookshelf speakers. Now i’m having a difficult time deciding on a receiver. i want to stay under 300 dollars. i’ll also be adding the 10 inch Fluance subwoofer. what do you suggest? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. stay blessed.
does anyone else have any tips? I want to make sure i get something that’s good enough.
He does not tell why they used the Mother ❗
The reason is that a Mother after a certain amount of records pressed with it, was worn out (sound quality became unacceptable). Because a Mother was expensive to make but useless when warn out, and because it was prove of a number of records made, by ceremonial handing it over to the artist or band it became a token of success.
So, originally a "Golden Record" has the sound of the original recording but it was of poor quality.
Marvin says: Don't panic and wear your Mask. 🖖😷👍 ❗
There was a guy on my local Craigslist selling a whole trove of genuine RIAA Gold records, which he inherited from his dad, who was a major record label exec. They were going for $200 each or $2000 for 20, and I really regret not buying one.
I just fixed a "dual 1019" it seems nice and sounds great, i picked up some new records at Target
Prince Starfish and coffee idea for song of the day.
I have a Platinum award for Stryper To Hell With the Devil- I could swear that award and all of Platinum and Gold awards back in the day were for Shipments- not actual Sales. For example- a Gold album might be 800,000 units shipped- or a Platinum album might be 1.5 Million. Some albums like Iron Maiden's catalog are never updated and audited due to the many record labels they were on. Iron Maiden Number of the Beast is clearly not just Platinum almost 40 years later. It is 3 Million U.S. sales by now. I know this because I'm always around the band and their camp.
Song of the day - Rhymes like Dimes by MF DOOM
Great song. Great album, too
Cool song: Lateralus - Tool
2:53
This is why I never really use streaming services anymore, streaming is extremely harmful to the music industry and it needs to die or the music industry will die
Song of the day
Give life back to music - Daft Punk
Song of the Day: Pay No Mind (Snoozer) - Beck
You should check out Tyler the creator. Igor and Flower Boy are two very well put together albums and probably my two favorites. Wolf is a very good album as well but your gonna have to except gruesome language and many genres. Or isolation by kali ulchis, she's an amazing artist.
Did 'White Christmas' Bing Crosby ever get a gold record or where is Glenn Miller's Gold record for Chattanooga Choo Choo?
