@Jason I won't have it another way. I love my culture, my identity, and personal history. I mean, to be Mexican and American at the same time? Speak Eng and Spanish. To eat Fried Chicken and mashed potatoes. Enchiladas with frijoles and arroz?! I've won the lottery! Hahaha Funny enough, non-latin Americans, think I'm Asian. Namely, Filipino. Even Asians think I'm one of them. They come up to me speaking their language. Among my people, I'm just another one of them. My DNA test confirms I'm very much Mexican at 78.5% indigenous and 14% Iberian and 0.05% Asian.
More basic education is needed in the United States about history in Mexico and Latin America to be honest. We took 60 % of Mexico's territory, so you'd figure we would know *something* about it. I was raised as a child in Mexico City, and literally all racial groups and ethnicities are represented in Latin America to varying degrees. We have Native Americans, Afro Mexicans, Chinese Mexicans, Lebanese Mexicans, European Mexicans, etc. I had a Japanese Mexican friend in school. The main groups during the colonial period were Native and Spanish, but by no means are these the totality. Many others, starting with French came to Mexico right after independence. Germans came in in the 1850s and Italians in the late 19th C. Then we had a lot of Jewish people fleeing from the Soviet Union (Ukrainian, actually), and Spanish Jews during the Spanish Civil War. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand, other than we just don't teach that basic stuff in the US.
Blame the media. It there fault that they only show only one look and then people are clueless. The only reason usa don’t really get this is because they show a bit diversity no where else.
Having grown up an hours drive from Sonora, in the US, I found it offensive when people talking about visiting would talk about the danger of ending up in a Mexican prison. I think the crux of this offense is that they think they can act way more crazy and dangerously than they ever would in US just because it is Mexico. Its a lack of respect for the civility of the city they are visiting. Like its just their playground.
Border areas sometimes target tourists. I've met Mexicans from Blondes to Black and all kinds of people. Also, many Mexicans don't know Spanish, too, esp. some Indian groups.
@@dennishassler605 Target tourist? maybe over changed in some cases? but generally you want have a problem unless you act like a drunken fool and do stupid things many Mexicans don't speak Spanish? where do you get that? and the indigenous people, even though they have there dialects, many do speak Spanish and understand Spanish, there Mexican
Omg that’s so true! I kinda caught myself doing that. I’m a Canadian in Mexico for work. You can get away with a lot more here and your mind goes into a crazy FREE mode when you realize there isn’t a cop hiding behind every tree waiting to pull you over. The people are so calm and relaxed down here. But human nature led me astray and I started to push my limits. But thanks for explaining it the way you did. It IS disrespectful.
This! Honestly I have always felt that way as a Cuban growing up in the states where I will see people use our countries as playgrounds where they'll hate the people but love our goods/commodities.
I think these questions are rude and ignorant. I think foreigners judge Mexico from tv shows such as Narcos and Breaking Bad. Even Mexican Americans are judged by a variety of stereotypes. Over thirty years ago, a white guy wanted to date me so I can make tortillas and cook him Mexican food. I rolled my eyes at him and told him that not all of us can cook. I never heard from him again. Lol Tourists who asked for western restaurants, I think they were looking for American restaurants. They simply didn’t do their homework on finding places to eat. Thank Karen. Have a great weekend. 😊
Hmmm just curious why is it that you don’t know how to cook my wife is Mexican and she’s a bomb cook and in my experience most Mexican women have to learn for survival in order to keep expenses down but I suppose there are exceptions
We need to get rid of Narco shows now. Like right now. People are taking Netflix shows as some sort of gospel for Mexican history, and that's just plain wrong, because they're making up a lot of stuff. I don't know if it'd be practical, but honestly, I think that Netflix could be sued for defamation in the American federal court system.. I know it sounds draconian, but there's a real price to pay for all those stereotypes, especially if there's no real information to counter them
I’m sorry about that white guy. Yeah ALOT of white guys date on fetish. Just like when they date black or Asian they looking for something they like out of dating u. Now days it a bit better and people are more open rather then their fetish
@@GringoXalapeno she might have grew up in America. These days a lot of women lost the skills of cooking only the old generations know how to cook. Now the more new generations they lost it because they was not taught. Now if u go towards more poor areas and villages u will get ALOT of women that know how to cook because that’s all they do. Like these days. A lot of mens are unemployed and lack education skills, and I question why they lack education. Aren’t they support to be the men?? Yet now women. A lot of them are beating men in education lol, as their more women with education then men. So I guess now women have to be the men in the relationship and the women. Yeah no that’s why a lot of women’s are finding equal partners that are more educated or stay single lol. That’s say something… My fiancé who is white Mexican he know how to cook Mexican food and I’m very blessed to learn but also cook American food
If a guy just wants to date you because he wants food he should learn to cook for himself instead of making women his culinary slaves lololol he might as well be making microwave burritos and calling it gourmet.
Amen Karen I was born in Michoacan. But I'm super light skinned Hazel eyes Auburn colored hair. Tall 6'3 1/2, 237lbs 13% body fat trilingual.y destesto que me digan que no soy o que nome miro Mexicano. Mexico's got a beautiful diversity of ethnicities colors it's just beautiful. But my personal favorites are las trigueñas 🇲🇽👍.
I get the "you don't look Mexican" a lot. Very upsetting because it reduces identity to only the colour of skin and ignores all other elements: the heart, pride, history, art, language, traditions, relations, environment, etc.
I’m mexicans and us mexicans can have different types of shade of skin like mine is like darkish and then people call me a beaner and the n word also “monkey” stinky it makes me mad this is a crazy world
Saludos La Karencita. Rest assured that on the north side of the border we annoy our people with such ignorance in much the same way. Me gusta quesadilla con salsa. I married a chicana because I want to live in Mexico, I guess.
Enjoy your videos. Being Danish, danish rye bread is very much a part of my culture, however I don't get offended if someone says they don't like it. Everyone has different tastes buds and sometimes it just comes down to what you grew up eating.
well...to tell you the truth, we mexicans neither. Maybe we`re "stranged" if another mexican doesn't like tortillas but other than that we kinda don't really care
Rye bread doesn’t have the same place in danish cuisine as tortillas in Mexican cooking. Its more like saying you dont like pasta in italy or rice in china.
I absolutely love Mexican food. I love blue corn quesadilla with cheese, salsa and pumpkin flower. So good. I have a close Mexican friend here in the US and he is one of the smartest most talented people I know. He is a mechanic, can build anything by himself. Decorates with a lot of taste.
I love this video! You made a ‘teachable moment’ using charm and humor! I agree wholeheartedly that these are all comments without consideration or kindness. I have interpreted similar remarks in the same way you have, such as when someone says: ‘I don’t like pasta’, or rice, or potatoes, etc.’ I would like to respond with, “Do you mean you don’t like Italians (or Asians, or the Irish)?” But I haven’t actually done that…yet. 😃
@LaKarencitaMX you touch a little bit of it at 14:20 you should do a video about Mexicans living in the USA sending Mexico Remittences, and how that help the community in Mexico. Muchas Gracias
Perhaps the next time a gringo says "I don't like tortillas" you could remind them that nobody likes American tortillas once they have the opportunity to eat fresh tortillas in Mexico. My favorite comment is "won't you get tired of Mexican Food?" I try to tell them that I think we just call it "food" in Mexico, and that there are so many different flavors and combinations that it would be very hard to get tired. Thank you for your help. Anybody who visits a new country is going to make mistakes in the beginning. The shame comes when that person doesn't try to learn from mistakes. You help all of us with charm and grace.
Yeah, that New Spain caste system has left a lasting legacy in the country. Yes, honestly, most gringos don't really understand the intricacies of Mexican culture. If you are going to live there, better to learn the local customs.
The full of sh*t, New Spain never had a caste system. Stop spreading the lie of the Black Legend. Most of the New Spaniards never wanted to leave the great and glorious Spanish Empire.
Hola Karen, me gustó tu video mucho.
Wonderful video. Thank you. You make a lot of good sense of things. I've traveled all over the world and have learned to be sensitive and appreciative of all cultures. I have not visited Mexico in many years. I'm looking forward to visiting Hualtulco soon.
I've only recently found your channel. You have lots on interesting things to say, and I am enjoying all of your videos. You really add a nice perspective to topics. Unfortunately, I have already signed up for one language course. But once that one is finished, I will look more closely at what you offer. Keep doing your thing!
Interesting video! I can relate to what you said. Some non Japanese go to Sushi restaurants and they say they don’t eat raw fish. It is annoying, too. I may understand what you want to say regarding “Western restaurants.” I live in Canada and some call “Western restaurants” “White restaurants.” Another thing I want to mention is “Quesadilla.” My partner is from Central America. In Central America, Quesadilla is usually a dessert which is like a pastry. It is made from parmesan and rice flour. But in Mexico, Quesadilla is a main dish. I am learning a lot from your videos. Please continue your great work!
Great video. Hopefully, we have not offended our amigos in the great city of Queretaro. Can't wait to visit again soon! Mexicans have a great sense of humor but sometimes we gringos may offend without knowing it.
Just make sure to always say, "Salud, (buen) provecho, and buenos días/tardes/noches". Don't get alarmed when (my) Mexicans are very friendly. Don't forget to smile, Mexicans are very joyous people. You will be noted as rude, otherwise. I know (we) Americans always use, "please" and "thank you", so no problem there.
Your videos are very well done and I enjoy watching them! I think if someone asked for western food, they’re asking for bbq, hamburgers, french fries, hot dogs, nachos kind of junk foods and maybe finer dining like steak and potatoes? Maybe they wanted to ask for cowboy food? Chili and chili cheese dogs, I don’t know. I found that there’s two things Mexicans don’t have patience for: traffic and buffet lines lol 😂 and if you are trying to train your dog on a leash and the dog should not be distracted from it’s training, do NOT tell a Mexican, who’s untrained dog is off leash and jumps on you, that you do not want to socialize your dog with theirs. They simply will NOT understand and take a big offense! They will kick you OUT of Mexico! No, better to tell them that your dog is BRAVO or will BITE! Xoxo
FUN VIDEO, but actually, MANY of my Mexican guy friends joke that they're "not a real Mexican" because they don't like chiloso, tequila, or Luis Miguel. LOL But coming from them, it's just fun. I have also discovered my friends quite enjoy talking about their ethnic heritage. Querétaro is a "melting pot" of cultures. My friend Alejandro LOVES hamburguesas, and Luis craves SUBWAY!
You are right! It doesn't hurt talking about our heritage. I've done it too (in a couple of videos). Some foreigners, particularly in the United States (from what I've seen), race is very important to some people and they might be surprised that if they come to Mexico, the ideology is not the same.
Very enjoyable and informative video as always, Karencita! About "quesadillas" (which I love and eat often): here in the southwest U.S., as in most of Mexico, I think, a quesadilla is simply a tortilla with melted cheese inside. But I remember one time when I was visiting Mexico DF awhile back, some friends offered me a "quesadilla" that had no cheese in it at all! (I think it was huitlacoche, something I'd never had before). Anyway, to me, it was a "taco", not a "quesadilla". I mean, the word "quesadilla" comes from "queso", right!!? But I learned that what I call "tacos", they were calling "quesadillas". Oh and while on the subject of quesadillas, I remember when a Salvadoran acquaintance offered to give me a "quesadilla". Well, their quesadillas are like a piece of cake or pastry, with cheese as an ingredient. Nothing at all like Mexican quesadillas!!!
We love your contemplations. We are Canadians, though a decade testifies different. We live in Querétaro now. Our objective? For all its insanely epic failings, to be Mexican..
I was in Mexico this past summer and was served a quesadilla without cheese which surprised me, I thought all quesadilla has cheese. Thank you for educating me. The first time I had fajita was when I was living in Singapore and used a fork and knife, but the waiter was kind enough to show educate me 🙏 I'm grateful to be able to explore the world and experience life for myself rather than listening to the ignorance of others. Life is a constant learning process. Live joyfully.
Yes!. To me is insulting when people from up north try to call themselves (in a ignorant way), expats (expat is an abbreviation of expatriate, which means one that no longer recognize his/her country as his/hers), but call Mexicans, immigrants (which is the right term), illegal immigrants or course, the favorite of a lot of people, illegal aliens. Is like some how they feel that they are more especial than Mexicans. And the reason why they don't want to be called, immigrants, is because up north they have given a negative connotation to the word, immigrant. The funny thing is that they are descendants of immigrants. 🤣🤣 Another annoying and lack of respect, is when they refer to themselves as American, we all are Americans in the American Continent, and there is no country named, America. And those are facts.
@@Lairdini You left out the facts. What does it say here: United States "of America". What does it means: United States within the American Continent. And just because tomorrow I call my self, George, that doesn't mean my name is George. Facts matter. First, there is only one Continent, the American Continent; Then you have, North America, Central America and South America. Just like California, and that doesn't mean there are three States of California. Facts matter. And we Mexicans called ourselves, Mexicans, but we also are Americans, just like Canadians. But the US has more of a description than a name, and if you know how to read, that's what it says. Not here to fight or argue, or being hateful, I just like facts. And if you can provide official facts to prove me wrong, please, do.
@@luyzqint3760 In Geography, 2 of the 7 continents are North America and South America. Mexico and Central America are considered part of North America.
Thanks for sharing this video. My dad from Guanajuato is darker skinned and my mom from Jalisco is very light skinned and colored eyes. All my tios have blue, green, or hazel eyes and light color hair.
I highly recommend that you travel in Mexico and do not worry, BUT always be observant and cautious when you travel. I've seen some tourists get pulled over by just a regular car - be careful - you could get scammed. You will often be shorted on change as well in places where gringos are common - if it's substantial I start asking for help and somehow they come up with the missing change. Still, most Mexicans are honest and helpful - there are some scammers around, too, so be observant.
Hola Carencita. You're totally right it happens to me all the time. I don't look like I don't have the accent like. I don't eat chili I don't act like, l don't think, etc. I don't take it too serious. Because l don't look like a Oaxaquita for mi own paisanos,🤣😹 We are only humans love each other ❤️.
I like the word wereo(please forgive my misspelling) I always felt that in the Mexicano(Mexican) dialect it would transalate to blondy(blond). Am I wrong?
Love it! (Try a Paloma... grapefruit soda like Squirt + tequila... but there are so many yummy drinks who cares if you don't really like Tequila! LOL. )
I see people talking a lot about the quesadilla vs taco question. Here's what I learned as a youngster in So Cal, Baja & Tijuana... A quesadilla is flat and made from 2 FLOUR tortillas or one folded over itself and usually has a lot of queso inside, but also can have other fillings and yes it can also be sin queso. If it is a flour tortilla rolled up it is a burrito. A taco is made from CORN tortillas and can have many fillings as well as usually queso also BUT even if it is just a corn tortilla with cheese & some picante it is still a Taco. A quesadilla with any fillings or even sin queso is still a quesadilla IF it's a flour tortilla. I make flat tacos with only queso & jalapeno with picante for breafast and they are still Tacos (to me anyway). Just how I was raised I guess.
Yep, a quesadilla is called a "pupusa" in El Salvador. Likewise, a man with a coarse sense of humor will say about a woman, she has a tight/loose pupusita. I'll leave it up to you to guess which part of the anatomy he's talking about. Man the Salvadoreños even have a Día Nacional de la Pupusa, no kidding.
Very accurate video. I'm guilty of one myself. When I visited Mexico, I ate tortillas for the first time ever. I didn't like them cus of the heavy corn taste (since it's so fresh which is a good thing btw). But eventually got accustomed, and now I'm craving to get back so I can eat more with meat, picante y aguacate 🥰.
Karen...Thanks for the videos. Your presentation is excellent and keep up the good work. I am from the US and live in Huatulco. I need some help with my spanish and will sign up for the lessons. Good luck in Colombia you will love it ! Geoff

On the flip side I get tons of Mexicans say, " What's up man?" (not British English) and "Hey man, what state are you from?" (we don't have states in the UK), and even, "What part of California are you from?" (London is 8, 500 km give or take from California.) Then of course I get called a "pinche gringo" and all manner of things when I'm thought of as a tourist, but I understand it all and just put it down to ignorance - just like there exists all over the world.
@Luyz Qint Yeah, I admit the word "pinche" is pejorative (despectivo) in Guatemala too, but in the rest of Central America it means tight as in tacaño. In Colombia it means something that doesn't mean much (insignificante), and in Spain it's a sous chef, so you even get restaurants called "El Pinche" which makes Mexicanos laugh. I can also tell you mate that I know my English (I'm English), and also lived in Mexico since 2008, so know who's who in my barrio and who gets it in the earhole for calling me a pinche gringo. No hard feelings mate.
WOW ME ENCANTO EL VIDEO!! ESTOY MUY DE ACUERDO!! incluso de la "autodefinicion" de muchos mexicanos sobre nosotros mismos que realmente me sorprenden tristemente buauaaa
That's very good information that you have provided especially for people that are from the United States. That being said I will tell you that most will not remember all of that because there are a select few that go to Mexico for the culture and will remember to show respect like that it's sad but true. Besides the people from United States that are going to Mexico to visit the ones that are going to actually live there are going because it is much cheaper for people in the United States to live in Mexico and that's the bottom line. I mean the weather is good all year round the food is fresh and healthy and if they're into drugs hell that's Paradise for them being that Mexico is where most of the drugs come from. But there are people from the United States that do go because they appreciate the culture the information that you have provided is very much appreciated to those of us who want to show respect to your people and your culture
my wife is part Mexican ,Portuguese, Swedish and what ever else.I tell her she looks Mexican because im Irish ,Scottish and English, im super white LOL.When i tell my wife she looks Mexican its compliment.Mexican people are a good looking people and they have strong family values and a very outgoing perspective on life.
Foreigners and immigrants who have become Mexican residents/citizens have the same complaint about Mexican citizens? For example, many find it offensive, derogatory and racist when Mexican citizens use the term gringo/gringa to describe anyone they perceive to be foreign and to describe people with lighter skin colors (even if they are fluent in Spanish).
Is it interesting, though, that we mostly can tell ourselves apart, with some level of accuracy. I put my Latino radar to good use in the USA, to decipher us. It's a hit and miss, but when we start speaking Spanish, I can tell who is who.
I am in Queretaro now and trying to learn Spanish by Pimsluer to practice in town and was wondering why they teach us Americans to say Soy Norte Americano. Never made sense to me. How does that let anyone know which country I am from? Do Mexicans consider themselves North Americans? What about Canadians? Im so confused. This was a great video with very good content. I would like to see more like this.
Historically, " western" meant west of the holy land. Europe was west, China was east. In the USA, "western" usually refers to Cowboy territory: Texas, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, etc. California is as west as we've got, but we don't usually refer to California as western. We tend to call it the Left Coast.
A mi me dicen mucho esas frases, “you don’t look mexican “, both of your parents are mexican?, etc. pero la verdad no me molesta, inclusive hispanos me hablan en inglés,pensando que soy gringa🤣, solo se que es porque no conocen nuestro hermoso pais. Saludos!

Omg, when I was a kid I hated tacos because my mother got these Mission-brand kits in the store with hard, pre-formed shells and filled them with hamburger meat made with the packet of spices they provided and the terrible-tasting canned salsa... but now I love real tacos.. I am disappointed that you said I cannot have quesadilla sin queso because my chilango husband promised me that I can. I said I can't eat quesadillas because I'm allergic to cheese. He said it doesn't have to have cheese. I said "quesadilla means it's made with cheese" and he said it doesn't have to be. When I'm in Mexico I'm definitely going to eat quesadillas sin queso and I hope that it doesn't offend anyone. Anyway, I prefer enchiladas - sin queso, sin crema.
It is only commonsense not to criticise or be impolite when you are a "Guest" visiting another country. Sadly, many people lack commonsense. Mexico is a huge country with many diverse people. Variety is the "spice" of life.
Hola Ruby. A good, thought provoking video, much needed by a large portion of US citizens. Unfortunately most US citizens wouldn't be able to locate Mexico on a map if it weren't for the Republicans and Donald Trump constantly warning about the hordes of "scary immigrants" about to storm the US border. Never any mention, of course, about how the US stole the southwest states "fair and square". Most US citizens are terrible when it comes to geography. When it comes to Mexico their knowledge is mostly limited to what they see in John Wayne or Clint Eastwood westerns, full of nasty bandits and lots of desert, or movies full of narcos. Tourists have found the resorts of Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Escondido, etc. but none of these paints an accurate picture of Mexico. I was very fortunate to have a fourth grade teacher that taught a month-long section on Mexico, and my best friend was of Mexican ancestry, and I have loved Mexico ever since. In the US "western" has been expropriated for exclusive use in much the same way "American" has been expropriated. In the US some people think that Mexican food is limited to ground beef, iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese and sour creme served in a taco shell, plus refried beans and Spanish rice. The more adventurous may include Tex-Mex. I have five cookbooks on Mexican cooking but they still don't cover all the possibilities of Mexican cuisine. People would benefit from reading a bit about Mexico before visiting. I've noticed that a disappointingly large number of US UA-camrs don't seem to know very much about the sites that they are visiting and filming. The internet is a starting point but it should definitely not be the last. Read some books. Is Mexico safe? Well, it used to be safer, before an insatiable hunger for drugs in the US fueled the growth of the narco gangs. 45 years ago I could camp along any road in Mexico at night and never give it another thought. Probably not today, and I certainly wouldn't hitchhike at night around parts of Michoacan or drive the back country around Culiacan any time, but most tourists in Mexico never have any problems. Just use common sense, and know your capabilities ( your knowledge of Spanish, the cultural norms, your physical condition, etc. ). Anyway, after visiting every state in Mexico except Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas I have nothing but great memories of Mexico. It is as culturally rich and varied as any country in the world. The Mexican people I've met, many in rural areas, sometimes mestizo but at other times unmistakably Indian have enriched my life forever. Get away from the border and the beach resorts. Explore the interior. I'm glad my memories extend back more than half a century. Because of my age I don't travel to Mexico anymore, but you manage to provide me with new memories every week. Thank you.
I like that when you say US citizens wouldn't be able to locate Mexico on a map, they wouldn't be able to locate Canada either haha. Nonetheless, I have met great people when I traveled in both country (US and Mexico). North America is a beautiful place to live and as a Canadian, I am happy to be here.
It’s the country right below, what are you talking about. That’s like saying Americans wouldn’t be able to locate Canada. And Trump was easier on immigration than Democrats like Obama and all dude:
Plus, Mexicans also have stereotypes of Americans being white people that don’t know anything like other South American countries from my experiences. It’s just that generalizations exist everywhere, and that’s how it’ll be when you don’t spend much time with another culture. No one thinks of black people hunting Nutria in the swamp for food when they think of American the same reason Americans don’t think of really indigenous people or black people when thinking about Mexicans. It’s not what we are primarily exposed to all the time. Also, Mexicans themselves have to take the responsibility for selling drugs man. No one put a gun to their head and forced them to seek drugs. Canada and the other close countries to the US aren’t having the problems with cartels Mexico are having despite the same opportunities to sell those drugs and the close proximity. It’s Mexicans who chose to sell the drugs and are doing so, and no one forced them to do so. There is a huge want for things like having revenge against those you have wronged you. If a country made a group of people that can be there to be used as hitmen to fulfill that need, it’s those people’s fault if they gain money and influence and take over the country later on using the weapons they use for the trade, not the people who had the thought before. This whole narrative that it’s the US’s fault for Mexico’s drug problems when other countries around the us don’t have those problems has always been weird for me. The lack my accountability as well.
Don’t say, Mexico is so cheap, because it isn’t, specially where I am from, Tijuana, a border city, it is one of the most expensive cities in the country and people saying it is cheap is hurtful to us locals because comparing a foreigner income to ours we feel exploited and undervalued by our employers and the living becomes a burden and miserable 😩😔
Interesting how where ever i go in mexico, mexicans tell me I don't look mexican, even though both my parents are mexican born. They always ask where I am from. I say Chihuahua, and they say I look Persian! It doesn't bother me anymore, I just always respond with "Oh, I thought you were from some central american or south american country" That usually puts an end to it.
While I was working in the United States in Florida many years ago. I was told that I don't look "Mexican". I asked what do "Mexicans" look like? She said short and dark.
The majority of people are very ignorant. All Latin American countries have mixed populations, just like the USA. It's like saying to someone who doesn't look like a native American Indian that they don't look American. Just plain ignorance. The reason why they call people from the USA Americans is because the name of the country, USA, is a rather stupid name for a country. What can we call them, "United Statians"? "Usians"? Maybe in other languages, like Spanish (Estadounidenses) it's possible, but not English language. So that's the reason the USA appropriated the name "American" although all the people from the American continent are Americans.
@@iramsavir5631 Thank you for your comment and accurate explanation, you are exactly right. Because of the name of the country, "United States of America", the easiest or simplest way to refer to the nationality is "American". It would sound weird to say "Unitedstatesian" or something similar. But of course "America" in its complete meaning refers to the entire American continent, North, Central and South America. So in tjat sense everyone who lives in the American continent is "American", but the only country that actually has the word "America" in its name is the USA.
Hi. We have been watching your channel for while and we love it. Maybe in one of your video you can talk about how they see blacks from U.S. We are new here to Queretaro and we frequently have strangers come and ask to take a pic with us. I know they are fascinated with my sons hair and frequently ask to touch their hair or just reach and touch it. I prepared my kids and they understand it’s just a fascination, as not a lot of blacks. We went to Tequis and same thing, had people walking up and asking for photos. But maybe you can shed more light. We live here now and love it just wondering if you had more info. Thanks.
Hola! Oh. That must be very uncomfortable. I think people act just for ignorance and someone needs to explain them to I'm sorry to hear that. I would love to talk about that, I just don't know how
I remember rthe first time, decades ago, when I ordered a quesadilla and they asked me "quesadilla de qué ?". I almost had a melt down, but fortunately I kept my thought to myself (that thought was "what the f*** do you think I want it of: it's a 3)$=2! Quesadilla) hahaha
Yes I had the same experience in Mex DF years ago when I was offered a "quesadilla" de huitlacoche. I was like, "where's the queso?!" That was when I learned that what I call "tacos", in some places are called "quesadillas". Which to me doesn't make sense if there's no "queso", but that's how it is.
I lived in Taiwan for 33 years! When people wanted to find a Western restaurant in Taiwan, that basically meant a country that was not Taiwanese. I was equivalent to saying foreign cuisine restaurant! It had nothing to do with prosperity or economic status. It was a polite way of saying a a restaurant that did not serve Chinese or Taiwanese food! I opened the first successful Mexican restaurant in Taiwan 35 years ago. It was considered a western restaurant! I sold Frozen Mexican food for about 10 years before I got deported because of the Ohio and virus! I'm an American gringo and my Western Restaurants were very successful because they sold very good Mexican food!
I understand what you say about Taiwan and it makes sense because Mexico is a western country for Taiwan. I get your point and I know how Asian countries use this term because I've lived there too. I'm saying we as Mexicans don't use that term here because we use this term referring to the location of the country. In Mexico works like this.
I'm Mexican American Chicano I love Mexican food tortillas corn and flour tortillas and tamales, pozole, tamarinds and tacos a Vapor, Mexican women are beautiful too Mexicans think I look indio I am native American coca
It's my case, because I'm white and so is my family. I get a lot of that, "You're too white to be Mexican'. I'm like, Mexicans are NOT just brown-skinned.
@@luyzqint3760 True, from a geographic perspective, I think we kind of use the east edge of Europe to define Western vs Eastern (which of course means that Mexico is a western country). From a restaurant perspective, a western restaurant is one that belongs to a large chain, serves crappy food, and people only go there for convenience.
@@jimsalmon5158 I totally understand where you coming from, but I wonder why there are a bunch of none factual reference that are use up north as facts. Please, don't misunderstand, I am not anti-US/Canada, I am just pro facts.✌️
I have foreign friends that are always telling me, why don’t you drink alcohol? are you even Mexican? And I always find that really offensive. They always assume we are all drunks.

Your English is awesome Mijita ❤️🇲🇽👍.
Saying we don't look Mexican is like saying, "You don't look American".
Americans are NOT just white.
In the United States it would be like "No, but where are you "REALLY" from?"
@Jason
I won't have it another way.
I love my culture, my identity, and personal history.
I mean, to be Mexican and American at the same time?
Speak Eng and Spanish.
To eat Fried Chicken and mashed potatoes. Enchiladas with frijoles and arroz?!
I've won the lottery! Hahaha
Funny enough, non-latin Americans, think I'm Asian. Namely, Filipino.
Even Asians think I'm one of them. They come up to me speaking their language.
Among my people, I'm just another one of them.
My DNA test confirms I'm very much Mexican at 78.5% indigenous and 14% Iberian and 0.05% Asian.
Im the US if someone says “you don’t look American” they mean you don’t look white.
I have never known an American going to jail in Mexico for nothing and your not going to jail for a traffic ticket
Karen, eres muy comica, me rio mucho contigo. Espero ir a vivir a Mexico en unos años.
Lol
Tourists who asked for western restaurants, I think they were looking for American restaurants.

I get the "you don't look Mexican" a lot. Very upsetting because it reduces identity to only the colour of skin and ignores all other elements: the heart, pride, history, art, language, traditions, relations, environment, etc.

You hit on so many good points! #3 “Mexico is so cheap” is one we hear A LOT and we want to make a video on this topic 😏
Saludos La Karencita. Rest assured that on the north side of the border we annoy our people with such ignorance in much the same way. Me gusta quesadilla con salsa. I married a chicana because I want to live in Mexico, I guess.
I understand you married for Mexican papers, hahaha
Only parents can pass on the right to Mexican nationality and is lost with grandparents.
But she was talking about Mexicans not liking tortillas..... Way to make it about the other race!
American tortillas lol 🤣 here in south Texas all the tortilla are hecho y mano and fresh made
Thanks again Karencita 👍🇲🇽

Thank you for educating us !!! ♥️
The quesadilla is Mexican 🇲🇽🔥 not Central American
Great video. Hopefully, we have not offended our amigos in the great city of Queretaro. Can't wait to visit again soon! Mexicans have a great sense of humor but sometimes we gringos may offend without knowing it.
Just make sure to always say,
"Salud, (buen) provecho, and buenos días/tardes/noches". Don't get alarmed when (my) Mexicans are very friendly.
Don't forget to smile, Mexicans are very joyous people.
You will be noted as rude, otherwise.
I know (we) Americans always use, "please" and "thank you", so no problem there.
The tortillas in Mexico are amazing 🤯❤️ so moist and flavorful
They sure are! Can't understand how someone can not like tortillas.
I love your content! Thank you
Your videos are very well done and I enjoy watching them!
Well, looks like your friends live or have lived in the US, which gives a different spin on this.
I loved this Video. Thinking about signing up for your class. Thank you!
I hope you can join! The next course starts next week!
Nothing at all like Mexican quesadillas!!!
quesadillas are Mexican 🇲🇽🔥
We love your contemplations. We are Canadians, though a decade testifies different. We live in Querétaro now. Our objective? For all its insanely epic failings, to be Mexican..
I was in Mexico this past summer and was served a quesadilla without cheese which surprised me, I thought all quesadilla has cheese. Thank you for educating me. The first time I had fajita was when I was living in Singapore and used a fork and knife, but the waiter was kind enough to show educate me 🙏
I'm grateful to be able to explore the world and experience life for myself rather than listening to the ignorance of others.
Life is a constant learning process. Live joyfully.
That hat is really cute! It looks like it is comfortable.
Do you have any more suggestions for things you should never say to a Mexican?
Another annoying and lack of respect, is when they refer to themselves as American, we all are Americans in the American Continent, and there is no country named, America.
And those are facts.
"Pepsi is better than Coke".
@@prime8nate 😂

No, quesadillas are made with tortillas de maiz en Mexico.
BTW, may I compliment on your excellent lighting!
Awesome video!

Well, can you tell the difference between someone from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Honduras...etc?.🤔
I get that alot!!! I am very white but fave Mexican background. Even when I go to Mexico.

I Love your videos!!
Thank you for this
Thank you for watching
People come in all colors and all colors are beautiful.Everyone is mixed more or less.
Is it interesting, though, that we mostly can tell ourselves apart, with some level of accuracy.
I put my Latino radar to good use in the USA, to decipher us. It's a hit and miss, but when we start speaking Spanish, I can tell who is who.
Another great video presentation
Gracias!
But La Karencita, I've also heard Mexicans tell other Mexicans that they don't look Mexican!
Actually, your demonym should be: estadounidense. This is the way we call people from the United States.
lol quesadilla sin queso is like asking for a lemonade without lemon flavor or orange juice without orange flavor. lol
A quesadilla sin queso? That sounds like a pretty fancy qay to say "tortilla".
Saludos!
Yeah I’m sorry 😢 Mexicans are mixed

What's the town called?
@@hydnars Let’s just say it’s a town that borders with the state of Durango. There is people with extreme blue eyes, there is brown people, a good mix of everything. I’m brown skin and some of my sisters are white with light green eyes. My cousins some are dark and some are extremely blonde with green or blue eyes. For example one of my cousins is really dark and his dad was white with the bluest eyes probably in the whole town, but he just caught his mother side.

Anyway, I prefer enchiladas - sin queso, sin crema.
i rember when i went to Cabo san lucas and i ordered pancakes and sausage for breakfast and i got a hot dog for the sausage LOL.
It is only commonsense not to criticise or be impolite when you are a "Guest" visiting another country. Sadly, many people lack commonsense. Mexico is a huge country with many diverse people. Variety is the "spice" of life.
Jaja… muy padre tu video, pero tu reacción sobre los narcos… or is mexico safe? Super hilarious 😂
Ur a fool come to south Texas and see what we know about Mexico
Mexican sushi sounds amazing!!!
Hahaha. You know how to answer!
I doubt Mexicans say you look Iranian to be honest. Not a lot of Iranians in Mexico to make a distinction
While I was working in the United States in Florida many years ago. I was told that I don't look "Mexican". I asked what do "Mexicans" look like? She said short and dark.
What? 😨
@8:12 OMG! LOL!! 😀
Soy mexicana de tez blanca viviendo en el extranjero y siempre me dicen que no parezco mexicana… yes it’s annoying
I would love to talk about that, I just don't know how
@@LaKarencitaMX I can email you my contact info. What’s your email?

@@margaritakleinman5701 and I still want to find cheese on my quesadillas
@@stlev99 Me too! Fortunately here in California, the quesadillas are made with queso!
I am Mexican, and a quesadilla without queso triggers me no end. Also do NOT label me as Latinx.
A Mexican I lived with delineated race between what he called Castano and Castilian.
Quesadilla sin gueso = a Tortilla😲😅
My Mexican friend keeps moving his hands around when speak while agitated. Is that normal?
Haha I think so. I have done it in many videos
Are you sure he's not part Italian?
I'm Mexican American Chicano I love Mexican food tortillas corn and flour tortillas and tamales, pozole, tamarinds and tacos a Vapor, Mexican women are beautiful too Mexicans think I look indio I am native American coca
It's my case, because I'm white and so is my family.
I get a lot of that, "You're too white to be Mexican'.
I'm like, Mexicans are NOT just brown-skinned.
Karencita deberían comprar un terreno o una casa en puerto escondido para que pongan un restaurante mitad mexicana y mitad Londres
Ahhh. Me encanta Puerto Escondido de verdad! Algún día Julión!
To me, a “Western” restaurant would be something like McDonalds, Applebees, Starbucks, etc.
Western, is a geographic reference, anything else, is none factual.✌️
