Think "Alice" when you see "Alicization"
I have never been able to watch this episode with out tearing up. That I believe is the hallmark of perfect story telling on the behalf of the whole production team.

I couldn't help getting emotional in this episode as well. We all knew it was coming.
That send off with everyone in the game paying respects to the strongest swordsman was just incredible.
and since that day, Yuuki is still my favorite anime character and will always remains the #1 in my heart

Favorite story, character design, and personality. I can't NOT feel a bit broken every time I watch her die. Seeing anyone who's normally strong and brave like that - reverting to just a child who needs a hug, with a weak, depressed voice - it's heartbreaking. Seeing how many others cared for and respected her make the scene even more impactful.
I really appreciate your positive takes on SAO despite the all the controversy and hate surrounding it! It was once my favourite anime (now surpassed by 86) so it's great to see you enjoying it! Thanks for giving it a go and looking forward to more!
Even watching again and knowing what would happen, tears fallen from my eyes, Yuuki is my favorite Sword art Online character and this was the last episode at the time
now you know why this my favorite arc of SAO. in fact on real life on some online games has events where some player pay respect to another player that died. like on Final Fantasy XIV, or World of Warcraft.

I am not crying from seeing this the 7th time, my heart is just dehydrating through my eyes! Leave me alone!
Well as for the fight between yuuki and kirito it is confirmed by the author that yuuki is the strongest character in all of sao, even if you take into account kirito using two swords and star burst stream 21 hit combo from the anime, since yuuki is able to "see" Quadruple Pain which is a lot faster, she can easily see and block starburst stream from kirito. If anything kirito has to use his own skills and can never use a sword skill or sword connect while yuuki can use anything she wants normal swordskills and even her original one. Even if she has only one sword, shes still at an advantage because shes faster than kirito and can "see" every programmed combo while being able to use that to counter the enemy combo.
TLDR: Author confirmed yuuki is the strongest character in sao and yuuki can "see" (block) every swordskill of kirito while kirito cant do that and is at a disadvantage because yuuki would be able to use any swordskill she wants, while also being faster in general.
I now remember why I'm not as broken up about Yuuki than I am about a certain other character.
Yuuki got closure. Everyone knew it was coming and they could get her the best departure they could. She found meaning in her life at the end. The love and the heart that was shared around by her and for her exploded into positivity and became a sweetness that overcomes the bitter of her life being so short.
I adore Yuuki and her relationship with Asuna, however short it was.
That other character didn't get closure. No one was prepared for it. They didn't even get to find meaning in their life, they died believing this was the right thing, the best thing that could've happened at that point. They didn't see value in their life. There was nothing anyone could do to alleviate their self-loathing enough before they were gone. After their death, the people around weren't left with positivity and hope, but rather a crushing weight, and a despair and disillusion that ran deep, as the world refused to acknowledge the good that they did. Over time, the grief will settle, the memories will be cherished, and become a driving force for good... but it's not something that happens so easily.
Yuuki at least got to spend her last days enjoying the company of her friends, and got to find purpose in herself.
I'm really glad she did. I wish that same kindness had been extended to that other character, but... that's just how life is sometimes isn't it. Death isn't kind, it can strike at any moment, it won't wait for anyone to be prepared.
Sometimes death is sudden and merciless and leaves painful scars. And that's just what it was.

Most people like to call War of Underworld the Season 4, but it's actually like a Season 3 Part 2, Alicization is a single arc/season of around 50 episodes, but they divided it into 2 parts totalizing 4 cours, something like Sonic 3 & Knuckles

On a positive note, I'm reminded that gamers can be amazing. The massive in game memorials do happen, when Lenord Nemoy died there were THOUSANDS of people gathering in Star Trek Online and when Lance Ridick died the same thing happened in Destiny 2.

One of the most beautiful, heartbreaking, and cathartic arcs I've encountered in Anime. Every time I tell myself I won't tear up, but then I see all the players flying through the sky, coming to say their goodbyes... And the VAs for Yuuki and Asuna are just so constantly outstanding in their performances.
SAO has its faults, but Mother's Rosario isn't one of them - it packs so much into such a short time, overlaying Yuuki's heroic story (I won't say tragic) onto Asuna's development. And so much of it feels so real.
every damn time this scene gets me, but it is absolutely understandable that people cry here

This episode always gets me, so many came to honor her and say goodbye. Can't help but tear up.
I assisted to something like that. In LOTRO someone died from another guild, I didn't know the guy but the guild organized a memorial and there were at least 100 persons. It always made me realize that we are not just characters, we are all persons, everyone in an MMO.
This season has more of a yin and yang arc with i love. Showing the ups and downs of this technology. Some will have fond memories, others will be lost and many will have a bittersweet in their mouth once everything is said and down.

Sword art online is one of those things that just has a hate train for it. It's not completely without reason but it is way overblown to the point of people that haven't watched it holding that opinion.

The SAO hate is purely a meme. Ranting about SAO was profitable on youtube back when it was new and now everyone is convinced it's the worst. It's a good story, with good characters, and good world-building, that doesn't get a fair shake.
For the main timeline, the next one would be Ordinal Scale(movie) , then Alicization and War of Underworld.
For the progressive (also movies), I would say it is a remake of SAO, or kind of parallel world story.

Oh yeah, Sword Art Online is on of my favorite anime, and was my first.
It's just popular to hate at this point, unfortunately. And a lot of people go into it expecting some kind of gritty action show and get this much more emotions and relationships show, but can't let go of what they expected and just hate on it instead, I think. 🤷♀️
But I adore it. It's a favorite. Still makes me cry watching it now, Yuuki is a favorite and this arc always makes me SOB so hard, they did just try to break us I swear.

i think people going into it expecting some kid of gritty action show has to do with its marketing, a lot of the promotional materials for the anime tends to play up minor aspects of the characters alongside the action sequences and drama but the actual novel the anime is adapted from focus more on character relationship more then anything like the synopsis for vol 1 of the novels just gave a brief premise of the background setting focusing more on kirito as a person and even depicted his meeting of asuna as being "fated" while trailers for the anime contrasted by was focused on showing off the visuals of the characters and fights instead alongside their scenario predicament

I hope Luke watched the full end credits during the steam because the scene added at the end really hits the mark & elevates the end credits from what they showed until the finale.
I think that Kayaba designing the Medicuboid proves he wasn’t an entirely bad guy.

Sooooooooooo... I hate to break it to you Luke, but Sups and Flash have raced. If it's foot to foot, Flash is faster, if Sups gets to fly, he's only a tiny bit faster...in the comics anyway. Flash also thinks faster than Sups, faster than all the main JL members too. I'm just going to leave this info here and, move along... 😅

@@xXLightvsDeathXx “s4” is literally called s3 part 2/3 xD so while you’re technically correct it’s the 4th season, its still part of s3. Regardless the new gear is introduced at the start of s3 part 1. Or as far as i remember it is, havent seen it in a few years so might be off

This episode hits the feels way too hard every time. Alicization is definitely the peak of this anime. Also the people who call sword art terrible/the worst anime ever made quit during the Alfhime arc. I'm going to refer to them as arcs now because the season's got smashed together. Sao+alo were seasons 1+2 but are now season 1, ggo+ Excalibur/sleeping knights was seasons 3 and 4 but is now season 2, and Alicization+ war of the underworld were season 3 from their start as they happened after the compression, but are now seasons 3 and 4?
Alicication is literaly the opposite of a peak. War for the underworld is marginally better but not by much.

The bad thing about S.A.O. is it is overhyped by new anime watchers. It's not like its a bad anime, but some of the fanbase are saying like its peak anime programme, and trash talks the other named anime, for instance Full Metal Alchemist, either the 2003 or Brotherhood. Just as a heads up, before brotherhood FMA 2003 also stand at top choice, mind riding that same Rollercoaster ride? But there are other Anime with their distinctive pro and cons, so after finishing this anime, move on to the next, and make sure to still be active on UA-cam. God Bless you, Luke...

For me. THIS arc is where SAO started getting good with its storytelling.
Aincrad arc was pure garbage. It was a bunch of side stories and a rushed finale of the game.
Fairy Dance is... yeh.
Phantom Bullet is kinda cool but has some very weird plot holes and contrivances.
Mothers Rosario Arc finally sidelines Kirito, focuses on redeeming Asuna's character after she became a damsel in distress in Fairy Dance and manages to tell a small scale, super heartfelt story that quickly became one of my favourites
Season 3, Alicization continues being great! It resets Kirito's lack of character and actually starts to develop him. Its much longer allowing the characters and plot to actually breathe.
While the anime adaptation of Alicization gets a bit rough in the 2nd half. For the most part it remains great. Then the Progressive movies were everything I wanted out of SAO when it came out but actualized.
Alicication was when they threw out all logic because anyone still watching clearly didn't give a ounce of a shit about it.
