    I have nothing but love for Stoney's extra stout pig. Cannot understand any negativity.
    I consider it the Milkmen's Abbey Road.
    So many great songs, Peter Bazooka, Girl with strong arm, I'm flying away, Blues song, Don't deny Your inner child, I can't stay awake. It's a masterpiece. Also love the album cover. Give it a re-listen when You can, it's fantastic.

    Wow! A sad day. I've spent 199 Saturdays listening to you guys. I guess I will have to look around the room or drink water on Saturdays moving forward. Oh and yes, not a huge fan of Stoney's. Like Dan and Dean said there are some good tracks (Chaos Theory, Helicopter Interiors, Big Deal). I do break it out every once in a while.
    Enjoy your break!

    Really funny episode this week. I remember buying the album in Amsterdam and I liked a lot at the time and was great you had a new album. I was wondering why Rodney had a picture of Jockey Wilson and then mentioned Dexys at the end. Enjoy your break and thanks for all of these videos over the years as I think they got me through the COVID years.

    Thanks for answering all the big questions.
    High on Life sounds like it would be Rodney’s magnum opus if he could finish it. I can see the fans screaming “HighLife” similar to the way they shout “Freebird” or “Stairway” or “Camaro”.
    Enjoy your break… you guys deserve it!

    I love this album! "Big Deal," "Peter Bazooka," "Don't Deny Your Inner Child," "The Man Who Rides the Bus," "The Blues Song," fucking "Crystalline." Dudes! Such a good album.

    Surprised you guys don't like this one, I always viewed it after a great return to form after two records of what I assumed was record label meddling (Though I love those records as well). Big Deal has to be one of my favorite Milkmen songs, and I thought it was a wonderful way to end the discography, sort of a redo of Life is Shit.

    Shocked that this is considered a bad album by anyone! Peter Bazooka, The Blues Song, The Man Who Rides the Bus, Don't Deny Your Inner Child, When I Get to Heaven, Chaos Theory, and Big Deal are all top tier DM IMO. That's almost half the album. To me, they were retiring at the peak of their powers, so it was very bittersweet.
    And thanks for solving an ages old mystery. I never understood who was singing Crystalline. The cd booklet didn't say, and I'm not sure why I didn't guess it was Dean. Anyways, so call me crazy, but I love that record.
    The only DM record to miss the mark for me was 'Not Richard but Dick', which had a few tracks I loved ('I Dream of Jesus' being another top tier song in my eyes) but overall just felt like not much effort was put into it. But even the "worst" of DM's releases have at least a little gold in them. I think you should be proud.
    Enjoy your break, guys; you've certainly earned it.

    I read a blog in the early 2000's, not sure if it was by Griffith, but it always stuck with me. They explained the rules of Five Card Nancy and the economical "Three Rocks" drawing policy. I was linked to it from another blog post about The Garfield Randomizer.

    Like to Be Alone has got to be one of my favorites. I always thought it sounded melancholic, and stood out to me as being one of the only @TheDeadMilkmenOfficial songs with serious (not humorous) lyrics. But then I remember the part about "Love is the law", and thought...is this a reference to the Law of Thelema? I also always wondered why Joe's voice sounded so low and robust. Now I know it was just slowed down. Who wrote the music/lyrics, though?

    • @JosephGenaro
      @JosephGenaro 9 місяців тому +2

      I'm responsible for that song's music and lyrics. I played it for Dave and said I wasn't sure it was Dead Milkmen material but he liked it and wanted to do it. The "love is the law" part was inspired by an intriguing art book by Laibach that my friend Gabriel brought by for me to look at. There was a diagram in it that equated God to "Gravity". I had heard of "God is Love" and "Love fulfils the law" but not "God is Gravity" and then it clicked that it would work for the middle part of "Like to Be Alone".

    Why would Joe want the last three songs left off? Those are three of my favs, especially Like to be Alone and Big Deal. They are terrific songs. Yes, I was disappointed in the album to an extent, but there are many highlights too.

    • @JosephGenaro
      @JosephGenaro 9 місяців тому +1

      Khrissy is an example of lazy lyric writing on my part. I didn't use the cut-up technique like Rodney did but instead just sang whatever came to mind at the time, and the lyrics to Big Deal are similar - not much thought. That one starts with a bumper sticker slogan that I always thought was stupid. But back then I thought it was a funny way to start a song. Like to Be Alone just does not seem to fit the feel of the rest of the album. (These are my thoughts upon listening back to the album a few days ago.)
