That's not how tarrifs works. If I import as a US business an item which costs $1,000 and there is 25% tarrif on it, I will have to pay $250 customs tarrif in order for my product to be release from customs. If I was planning to make 10% profit and sell the item with $1,100 now I will sell it with $1250 + 10% = $1,375 to the final consumer. The country which is tarrifed is US and not the manufacturer country.
When I think of Donald Trump in the Oval Office pushing buttons, it reminds me of the absurdity of putting Homer Simpson in a position to push buttons in a nuclear facility.

if you understood that the US Constitution, you would understand that it gives the US federal goverment to raise revenue via import tariffs and nothing else. But you dont understand that. Trump is is making statements based on what the Constitution ALLOWS the federal to govt to do.

Even you don’t have tariffs right: China doesn’t pay the tariffs on Chinese goods. The American companies importing Chinese goods pay the tariffs. China doesn’t have to pass on the burden of the tariff because the U.S. government does not collect from China. The government, when goods are arriving through the ports, collect from the importers, *in* the U.S.

Yep, American Farm Bureau says we need 1.5 million to 2 million workers. Farmers have to pay for ads to try to hire local workers. The local people are not taking the jobs. Farmers have to pay a penalty for H2A workers.

I think the bottom line is Trump doesn't understand how tariffs actually work.
He doesn't understand much his education comes from the end of a pen that someone else was paid for writing the essays and tests.
That would be illegal for him to do and a copy of a policy common with Russia, Putin included. As the trade agreement between Canada, USA and Mexico makes that a breech of contract.

Your explanation of how tariffs work is not quite right. China doesn't pay anything and doesn't manipulate their prices unless importers/retailers move to buy manufactured goods from countries with lower tariffs. The importer/retailer (not China) pays the US government whatever the tariff is for a particular product or raw material upon entry into the US. For example, if a retailer imports a $20 product from China with a 25% tariff the importer/retailer has to pay the US government is $5 for each item. The retailer/importer can pass this added cost onto the consumer or reduce their profit. The idea that this incentivizes importers to bring manufacturing into the US and hurt China is a bit of a fallacy as most Americans won't pay the higher prices that manufacturing ordinary goods in the US would cost. Bottom line: tariffs are hidden taxes for the consumer that go right to the US government.

When Trump did his 25% tariffs on Chinese products the Chinese said, ok, we don't want any of your agricultural products. This devastated Farmers as they had nowhere to sell their products, like wheat and corn, etc. They had been selling to China for decades. It was a huge part of their Market. It was so devastating to Farmers that Trump had to give all of the money from the tariffs to the Farmers as a subsidy so they did not go under, turning American Farmers into Welfare recipients for the first time in American History. They still have to be subsidized today because of Trumps tariffs. Now. How exactly did Trump help Farmers again? How successful was his tariffs again? Farmers have been devastated and now have to depend on handouts to survive. How did this help Farmers? The tariffs do not bring in as much as the subsidies to Farmers, so even that is costing the American taxpayer, not helping us. Just shows how little Trump knows about tariffs and if he does know, he knows it increases the cost of goods to the American people, and just does not care.

The basic reason for tariffs is to discouraged consumers from purchasing that product. If America was a major producer of computers, placing tariffs on another country would encourage to buy American. Placing tariffs on everything we buy would be a tax, FACT! There's a lot of products we don't make!
