In the original Greek myth, Hephaestus found out/had enough of his wife cheating on him, especially with Ares so he forged a golden net and a sort of complex trap to catch them both in bed together. While Bachanals were technically ritual orgies, they also regularly involved drinking in excess and partaking in drugs of the time, normally to the point of brawls..... that could then turn into weapons being drawn and countless revelers being killed or gravely injured, so honestly focusing on the sex part of the joke is probably the most light-hearted interpretation, long story short, you probably don't want Bacchus at your parties unless you've locked up all the weaponry and stabled all your animals.

There's a Greek myth where Hephaestus was trying to get with Athena and ended up clinging to her leg and sobbing and getting snot on her leg. Athena wiped it off with a tissue and throws it off the mountain, the tissue then turns into a baby boy who's name is Erikthonius (sp.) who she then raises. Erm, it wasn't snot. That comes from Rick Riordan changing the myths for the reading of children. In the myth, Hephaestus tried to r@pe Athena but was unsuccessful, but some of his semen fell on her leg, which Athena cleaned off using some wool; in others, his semen falls onto the earth, both versions resulting in Erikhthonios' birth.
