    some people like jay some do not. but the dude is rock solid on keeping old stuff alive and actually keeping his stuff in usable condition. It is amazing to me that he can pull his stuff out and ride it just like that. bravo.

    I knew of Frank Kurtis, now I have to google Glen Curtis; Leno's knowledge on everything car and bike-related is incredible. Never paid much attention to him as a tonight-show host, but since seeing his car/bike stuff on YT I have massive respect for the guy.

      Glen Curtis of Curtis airplane fame, also made motorcycles and the first 5th wheel trailers.
      While you are at it look up the amazing Colonel Albert Pope who pioneered the modern 'safety' bicycle, the motorcycle and the automobile. The biggest manufacturer of such vehicles in America in the late 19th century.

    Two things impressed me when Jay started the Pope...how much compression it must have (he really had to heave on it) and the fact that it started first kick, which tells me the carburation and ignition were spot on. These old bikes generally used magnetos , which require careful maintenance to provide a healthy spark.

    I swear the first time I ever saw Jay Leno was around 1980, he was a guest on some late night talk show (probably The Tonight Show,) and he rode a motorcycle on stage and then sat down for the interview. Dressed in black leather from head to toe. He pulled a TV Guide out of his jacket and kept reading from it and cracking jokes about it. I did not dream this.

    I'm the guy that had Don Franks relay you a message that my friend Charlie Emmons had passed away and his 19O3 Kery was available. I rode it in the opening scene of Chasing Rainbows dressed as a WWI British soldier. Crashed it on the second take when the handlebars broke off.

  • @rodneyyoung8096
    @rodneyyoung8096 2 роки тому

    That's so cool. My last m.x. motorcycle went to Don Jones m.x. shop. He had designed handle bar grips with a ball on the end. Grand prix racing the changing grip to the outer porting helped with hand pump and added extra stamina for the ride. If or when you fell, the end of the grip kept the bar sticking it to you. A great safety device.

      Rear brake only...even Cars of the day didn't have front brakes. If you watch the very beginning when he talks about the clutch and brake on the same pedal, when he pushes all the way down you can see the rod that connects to the rear brake move. Fun Info: 1921 Duesenberg introduced the first 4 wheel brake system in the USA and it was also the first use of hydraulics for braking.
