In the playoffs, too many of the larger market, favored teams are being eliminated early on. So less national interest in teams like the Rangers, D-backs, etc. That explains the lowly rated WS to me. If the playoffs are perceived as a crapshoot, I also think it may lessen interest in the regular season, but am not sure.
Yeah idk my parents got Dodger season tickets. Its not obvious that there's less attendance but my only guess is tix are just expensive. And with more high profile starters (this will only get more expensive when Ohtani starts to pitch) people might just find it too pricey. Dodger games were never cheap but they definitely were far cheaper than going to the cheapest Laker or Kings game for example. If the cheapest tix are matching that? That's not great
This summer wil have the COPA America, Euros, and Olympics. That could take eyes of baseball for a bit.
