I agree. If applicants don't prevail on the medical criteria, the process including an additional non-medical portion on the backend is 100% misleading, potentially emotional abuse.
It does sound good, William. Since your notice says expressly that you met the medical. I have not heard from the SSA that they have fixed the other notices, but your seems to say more. In a good way :)
From what I’ve been seeing EVERYONE is getting the same thing in line as far as the non- medical review. So it obviously does not mean anything other than they aren’t finished and you won’t know until they make the final decision at step 5.
This literally just happen to me yesterday. I was all excited thinking I was going to get approved for my SSI Disability, only to find out the very next day my claim was denied. I was devastated. I told myself not to get excited about the update because nothing is guaranteed until it is confirmed, but I couldn't help it. I'm just waiting for the denial letter so that I can file an appeal, which is what I expected to happen anyway. It still doesn't make me feel better. However, I'm glad to see this video. I wish I saw before I received the SSA notice. At least I know I'm not the only one this happen to or there is an error going on with SSA.
Oh Alia, I am SO sorry. This is nuts why they keep putting out the language. Even if they said, '"decision has been made, but we are not telling you what it is, b/c the local FO has to send you that letter" - Grrr. I feel your pain.
On my first denial, when i logged into my ssa online on the progress bar, itll say step 3 medical review, and then on step 4 says seeing if meets non medical requirements, and i thought i was approved aswell. Few weeks later gos to step 5 with denial, i think their progress bar isnt accurate
Hi Joy and friends, I saw in my ‘field office non-medical review letter’ experience, was that I was indeed medically qualified for SSD by the state agency folks, and that my file had probably landed on a tall pile of other files at the field office waiting for the workers to eventually get to. I called the local office and politely checked up on my status a couple of times. They were nice too. And in due time my SSA account on line posted my approval and monthly amounts in big bold fonts, and the SSD box on the page has the word “Active” in bright green letters. Friends don’t be discouraged. I’m on the side of likely approved if you get the non-medical review letter. They will promptly give you any owed benefits too. Last thing, set up direct deposit right away. Well wishes.
So i got a fully favorable via federal judge. After 3 years. Then it went for non medical review/2-4 weeks?. Now this was in one town but i moved right before they started the non medical criteria review for ssi. When i checked ssa wedsite first it showed in step 4 showing city i was living in local ssa office. Then it changed to show new city is reviewing and it showed me a payment summary saying how much im going to get. That its starting on April 1rst and it also showed me 2 seperate deposits i assumed is part of back pay. Now i was excited after seeing all this on ssa site. I logged back in next day and site reverted back to original city information before i moved. No payment summary. Nothing. I called a couple times and reps say they dont see anything. So do u think some glitch allowed me to see what im getting????? Can someone give me their opinion please??
My case is still in the medical division process for the past four weeks on my dac survivor benefits now it's going into the fifth month I've been on ssi since I was fourteen i don't understand what's going on.
Oh, so you are in the standard area of them looking to see if your current and recent medical evidence confirms you are or are not fully disabled anymore. If your functional limitations from your impairments have reduced over the years, that can signal improvement, which can lead to not being fully disabled from all 12000 jobs, but only some. But 4-5 months is not a long time currently, however long it seems when you are living it. Hang in there, and of course never stop being a diligent treater of your conditions.
I got the notice that they were reviewing non medical a little over a week ago. Today I got a letter asking me to call about direct deposit. Nothing is showing in the benefit letter just yet.

Yes, that is accurate that all go back but NOT for review - only those that WON medical should be going back for non-medical. It is part of the process to double check for any offsets, errors in DLIs, etc. Obviously, no such offset checks can even occur on a non-award case of zero. HOWEVER, even denied claims go back so the office so it can send out the DENIAL letter. So yes, all go back but for different purposes. But not for looking for offsets (you can't offset zero :), fugitive status, etc. The hoopla has been that SSA has, in what most in this field for years would say is a big Boo boo, is telling people, HEY, you have completed medical review, now we have you go through non-medical review. At most what it should say to those denied is, we have completed medical review, you were denied, it is going back to your field office to generate an official denial letter. Again, no point in 1) telling people who lost that internal step, just send them the denial letter and quit the torture and 2) reviewing issues that ONLY apply to people who have prevailed.
