I was really young When I used to watch this. I used to watch it in Animax and would wait for new episodes every night. It's 2021 already. Never once forgotten the feeling of Nostalgia.
SPOILER WARNING When I initially watched this series I thought Rikuo was an idiot for rejecting his demon blood. I mean damn this shit is so cool right!? Now I think about how he watched his father be killed in front of him and saw the aftermath of the bus incident (his friends were injured, there’s no way that everyone on that bus was as lucky and there were probably a few deaths). Certainly he has an intrinsic desire to become the Third Heir and lead his own Night Parade, but it had to be tempting to ignore that and live as a normal person. Half his problem in the beginning was willful ignorance, likely stemming from trauma. I also used to think his day form was so lame. Lacking the conviction of his night form, whiney, totally uncool. Now I can see that they are totally the same person and definitely related to Nurarihyon and Rihan. They do what they want and don’t let people tell them what to do. That’s essentially what Rikuo did when he initially denied his position as a candidate. He’s actually very strong willed about it. I also rewatched a lot of the council scenes and noticed that a lot of his seemingly polite and innocent comments were barbed. Cleverly worded little digs that were meant to shut the offender up without actively antagonizing them. Additionally, when you consider that Rikuo is 12, he’s very clever for his age. A lot of the stupid mistakes that he made are because he’s young, inexperienced, and coddled (both by his father’s retainers and, to a lesser extent, his grandfather). Rikuo is actually a really well thought out, well developed character. The perfect blend of genetics and circumstances, really. Also not at all as weak as I had initially pegged him as.
