I have read articles that say to treat a bleeding fish with Mountain Dew, and articles that tell you not to. With that being said, I have probably seen Mountain Dew stop a fish from bleeding and keep them alive in my livewell 50 times in the last 15 years.
@@citydogpack I was fishing a team tournament with a buddy that’s in my club a couple of years ago. He deep hooked a fish and poured some Sprite in its mouth and the bleeding stopped. I’ve been doing that since! Works every time!
The skipping action when you reeled in that first cast quickly was pretty nice. Reminds me of bait jumping out of the water when a big fish is after them. I could see a mixed slow with a few rapid pops retrieve being money too.
I usually dunk them back into the water and the bleed will stop most of the time because there blood doesn’t coagulate in air like ours does it’s takes h2o
I would say that the piku piku is like a technique called shading, wich consists of rigging a shad shape soft plastic or similar in the middle of the body, like a wacky rig, and work the lure near surface making those sublte twitches, in fact piku piku means twitch in japanese.
I have tried to stop bleeding with many things that I had in my boat: 3/8” socket, broken sunglasses, an inappropriate text, Tabasco, old sock, other fish, lottery ticket, 16lb left handed bowling ball, and smoked oysters. I never thought of trying Mountain Dew!
I carry a jar of vegan mayonnaise and rub down the bleeding locations on the fish. Use a counterclockwise motion for best results unless it is windy, then only go up and down.
I just discover your channel with this video and I would like to thank you for your very clear and understanding English! I'm French and it's not easy for me to understand most videos when anglers are speaking fast or with an accent 😅 I've learned a lot of things with you, thanks and don't give up! 👍 Yoann
I have been thinking about a lure like this for some time, without ever seeing anything on the market. I've thought about doing a floating wacky rig but this looks incredible. Bought some instantly. Thanks.
The fish you have caught almost attack every lure I want to know about different lure for different fish I don't bleave on ur lure it's fish who attacks every lure can you show carp lure Grass carp lure etc
Other than the body curve, I think you could put an eye top center on any topwater. If it looks like it may not hold well, just run line though top eye and tie off on front eye. Bing.
Cool to finally see the action, was eyeing this lure before. Gonna keep commenting for the algorithm and to get reviews of the Psycho Stick! (And Hakai reel?)
This is a variation of the Niko rig used by Shimizu, field tester of Shimano.... Hook in the middle of the body and small weight at the head of the lure.... It wriggle like a mosquito larvae, head down at the bottom and body up .... It is a killer rig...!!!
Man, I'm digging the JDM route you've been going lately! I'm all about using those oddball baits that most people have never even seen! Went to buy it, all that's left was 2 in clown. 🙁
Well good luck getting your hands on these anytime soon. I think I'm going to modify something instead. This is also something I'm going to try with the Nikko Ikanago minnow hooked wacky with a small treble hook.
@@MattyWongFishing The sugar may also play a big part. My sister sustained a deep laceration on her hand as a teen and our neighbor, a Marine poured sugar on it - stopped the bleeding instantly.
If a fish is bleeding that u caught don't poor Mountain Dew because it's really not good for them it's harms their gills. So the best thing u can do for a fish that is bleeding is just put it back in the water as soon as possible and usually the bleeding will stop because of the way their blood reacts with water. An if u wanna take a picture just let it sit in water for a minute and usually the bleeding will stop.
The curve probably helps the action of the pikupiku. But if you have a slightly curved jerk bait with 3 trebles, take the hook off the middle and try it out!! I was just thinking the same thing…
Nice thanks for video, I subscribed to your channel a few days ago very informative and straight to the point. I got a family member that lives in Japan maybe I can get my hands on Japanese lure cheaper than here on the states. Thanks again keep posting 👍😎
Hey Tyler just got my first piku 78 and your video is great but my question is why is there an eyelet on the nose of the bait. You only talk about the tie on the middle of the back? Your advice is always welcome and keep up the great videos.
Hey brother I have a real serious question. I’m fishing 50 pound braid and 20 pound leader on a flipping pole with a Texas rig or a jig and this morning I broke off twice on the hook set. Am I setting the hook too hard? Do I have the wrong knot? I’m just really discouraged after loosing those fish this morning because they had to be 6+ pound fish so I’m reaching out asking for some advice please help a brother out
More than likely yes. Where exactly did the line break? If it broke at the leader knot then it could just be your knot. Have you tried an FG? If it broke elsewhere it could be the hookset. If you are using braid to flouro you might want to back down to a MH power and a more moderate action or you could try more of a pull hookset. You basically have zero stretch with braid to flouro so all the energy has to give somewhere
@@BassFishingHQ it didn’t break at my leader knot, it broke my Fluro line. Twice. On 2 different fish that I have no idea how big they were! I mean I caught some fish that were solid 2 pounders but these fish that I broke off on were complete tanks.
@@BassFishingHQ and brother everybody that sees my bass hat I got from you is asking where they can get one too and I always tell them to go subscribe to your channel and they can order themselves one!!

I've had some success with coke as well. Never tried mt dew
Same with me but I use 7up. I’m not sure why it works but it does!
Sprite.
No way Mountain Dew!!?? I thought you were joking

My thinking is how well this would work on schoolers.
Look at the jackall riser if you like that action
Peekoo peekoo! Love that your showing your subs these DIFFERENT baits than everyone else. Bounty fish now this pikupiku! Keep up the good work!
The fish are gonna be hooked on the Dew. They will probably bleed on purpose just to get some dew 😄.
Is this bait still in your rotation after a few years? That might be a good video of looking back at baits and seeing if they have stayed.
I usually dunk them back into the water and the bleed will stop most of the time because there blood doesn’t coagulate in air like ours does it’s takes h2o
Ok raise your hand if this is the first you’re hearing of the Mountain Dew thing 🙋♂️.
What does it dew to me drinking it? Never heard that before. Will Pepsi work? LOL
My hand is up!! Lol
My hand is up too

Of course the fish live, he was all jacked up on Mountain Dew

Laugh 🤣 bowling ball 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jackall make the best, innovative lures. Great company

Leave it to the Japanese to make something we're gonna wanna buy up. Just think of the hook up ratio.
I buy up Teckel Sprinker frogs for sure
Can you use the front line that is on it to give it a different action
Good vid. Bro!
I have fished a senko wacky rig twitching it fast enough to keep it float. Boy, they secret is out

Thanks for watching. I am gonna keep doing it
JDM tackle is where it's at
They can be very pricey, but I consider them little pieces of art.
There are some beautiful baits out there
Looks interesting. Where did you find this?
😲 MtDew.. does it work when I hook myself?
Great review ima get me a couple. Question tho… what’s the ring in front for?
Well good luck getting your hands on these anytime soon. I think I'm going to modify something instead. This is also something I'm going to try with the Nikko Ikanago minnow hooked wacky with a small treble hook.
Mnt dew: we endorse this video
Should we be concerned how Mtn Dew apparently stems bleeding?
It’s the citric acid that clots the blood. Red Bull, coke, most sodas will do the trick but for some reason the dew gets the press…
@@MattyWongFishing The sugar may also play a big part. My sister sustained a deep laceration on her hand as a teen and our neighbor, a Marine poured sugar on it - stopped the bleeding instantly.
Hey. Will Diet Mt Dew work?
That's one crazy lure. It puts out the same vibration as a wacky rigged worm.
God what id give to catch a few bass...be in a complete drought. Its insane...just no bass up shallow enough around here.
Seiji Kato is true genius.

I don't think it's just Mountain Dew. I've used Fanta, Sprite... I think it's mostly just the carbonation and sticky sugar
Glad to hear about the Mountain Dew, where can I purchase the lure?
In the description
i want to try this lure too!
6:00 I just had a tournament and one of our fish almost bled out. Wish I woulda known that (The fish made it through weigh in and swam off fine)
Any idea what the front line tie might do?
$17.99 that's a pricey thing
Mt. Dew doesn't coagulate the blood, it cauterized the wound. That stuff is like pure acid.
Man... Another awesome vid. I'll be in the office Tuesday. I'll get a nice care package set up for you.
Pumped about Ariel!
Great video 🤩
I see you like daiwa, you should check the daiwa procyon Al lt it's pretty sweet I have it paired with the st.croix victory spinning rod 7'3
haha are you kidding me with the Mountain Dew?
Thats awesome lol
What if you put the front hook on the nose tie?
Sprite and 7 up so the same thing it work's it's got something to do with the citrus in it from what I understand.
God the water and weather there is just magical
Love the reviews of the JDM baits. Keep em coming!
I'm wondering of this will work on floating hard baits we already have by just moving the eyelet to the middle of the bait?
The curve probably helps the action of the pikupiku. But if you have a slightly curved jerk bait with 3 trebles, take the hook off the middle and try it out!!
I was just thinking the same thing…
Been wanting to make a lure and this might be the one to try out !
I have some blanks with rattles and I think I can heat them with a heat gun to put a bed in it and bingo. The price is ridiculous.
That lure is really, really cool! I'd use it for sure. I 💕 the "something different" factor.
Looks like something I will enjoy throwing once I get my hands on some thanks for the heads up never seen this before this video
I'm lovin the idea. looks like u can keep it in the strike zone dancin pretty nice
How did the hooks hold up? I had to change the hooks out right away. Those hooks are so fragile.
I noticed that you’ve had a UA-cam channel for seven years now. I would love to see a video on how to be a fishing UA-camrs tips and tricks and stuff
Yes I started posting a few videos back in the day but decided to get serious about it this year
It reminds me of the old Heddon prowler I have one it sinks looks like a minnow with a broken back!!!!!
Awesome lure!! How about the action when you tie it on the front hook eye?

Subbed just because I had no clue of the dew trick. Very interesting fun fact. Definitely will be thinking of this when I'm on the yak.
Will any citrus flavored soda work ? I like Sundrop
I use a wacky like this sometimes across the top of grass
How does it perform when tied in front ring?
Wondering the same thing…
Hey man,I love mountain dew and typically have it with me lol

I came here hoping for that very answer
Does the Mountain Dew have to be carbonated?
Good question! Might need to replace bottle after each trip one has been used?
*gets shot or stabbed* “hurry get the Mountain Dew and stop the bleeding!”
When I get to my old school lures you will see
