- Spoon featuring lead singer and songwriter Britt Daniel is featured as one of Austin's up-and-coming bands on the series "Soon to be Seen" in 1996. And now two decades later they are still cranking out great music today.
Recorded on December 9, 1996 by AMN.

I always wanted to see that Plastic Mylar riff. Thanks.
No dislikes, this makes me happy.
Daniel's voice Still has the same power
Seeing an acoustic guitar make those noises is so jarring
So good, still so good. So good.
Wow. This video was great. I love seeing any great band in their early stages. Spoon was tremendous and I love the band, putting their talents/music up there with the best bands of all time. Thank you, Austin History Center!
Thanks so much for uploading this footage. I saw them not too long after this footage in PDX and they hooked me from the start with their songs and I enjoyed that Britt was using an acoustic in this manner live. The band has been amazing consistent in the quality of their output and I'm just as stoked by their music as the first time I heard them. Pure sonic bliss.
Towner! Been looking for a live version, love this track and would love to hear them dig that one out of the catalog this year. Great set!
This is the way I first saw them at Electric Lounge. Awesome.
That's crazy!! Thanks!!!
Stubb's, I was there.
you can really hear a Tex-Mex influence in their early stuff. awesome.
Woah what? Can you give examples?
i just saw them live and seeing how Britt used to look is hilarious omg
Gabriela jim eno looks better here though
Gabriela he still hot
THIS VIDEO EXISTS?!
No!
Them's the Telephono shades.
Spoon was our local rising band in Austin in the mid 90s!! I saw them all the time in the early days as a trio with Andi on bass. Would love to see any video footage from this era, especially the show they opened up for Radiohead and Soul Asylum at Austin Music Hall in I think 1995.
So sad that Britt Daniel hates this era of the band. They never play anything off of Telephono live. But man, Plastic Mylar is classic.
Does he actually hate it? The only thing I've heard him say about this era was something to the fact of "I no longer understand the person singing those songs." ... but I get it! I always feel like my first experience with a band is my favorite! It's like any relationship, the first moments are so magical as you get to know each other and then sometimes you go together and sometimes you just grow apart.
It is a shame..after seeing them roughly 11, 12 times since the late 90s...their first 2 LPs..and Soft Effects are THE best.
Whether he 'understands' that version of himself any more or not
Maybe he no longer understands the person singing those songs, but many of us do and we demand a full album Telephono tour.
I only wish I had the screaming voice he had
Hey guys...any idea whatever happened to that footage of Spoon playing Subspace Biographies by GBV???
It was fairly accessible here on UA-cam for years..now I cant find it to save my life.
Song list??
How is this the only live video footage of Spoon before 2000?
Old school Spoon has a very strong Jets to Brazil vibe
some kind of guitar fuckery
Compare this to Inside Out.
I’ve done so. Love both.
@@tylerdarling6895 me 2!
Suck Pixies vibes on this one! Track list any one ?
