  • IW Hockey reviews the 2018 Bauer Supreme S29 Ice Hockey Skate.
    Available at www.icewarehou...
    The Bauer Supreme S29 Skates are a great fit for the advanced skater looking for a high-performance boot at an affordable price. Bauer's new Fiber Composite is lighter and more responsive than the Tech Mesh of the past, the cherry on top is that it provides a better anatomical fit thanks to the updated 3D-injection process.

    For anyone out there considering these skates just get them! You won’t be disappointed totally worth the price. I got these last week only had a few skates in them but they’re really comfortable and durable. I’ve been seeing the improvement in my skating since getting these skates.

    These are some of the best skates I’ve ever skated on I got these at the Bauer store pre release a couple days before it came out and I went down from a 8.0 D Vapor X800 to a 7.0 D supreme and I love them

    Just bought these last night. Had them baked and my feet killed me. My old Bauer Vapor 10's were absolutely amazing and lasted me 15 years. I'm hoping these break in better.

    Bauer needs a 1 piece boot. No square boxed toe anymore either. I would like to see a lower profile rounded toe like the old Easton S17 skates. So comfy!

    Bought these last week. I got fitted and my size was a 7 EE. Went thru the process of getting them baked and had to wait 24 hours to skate on these new bauers. The first time I got to put these on an went on the ice. The first 2 hours were brutal on my feet. I kept re lacing every time I would do a lap. I don’t know if it’s because This is the first time I’ve ever had skates baked This is pretty much the worst skating I have ever done on a Public session. I knew I had to break them in. Skated another 2 hours later that day it still I was still having pain inside. Felt like the whole inside was on fire! This weekend I’m gonna skate on them again and break them in a lil more. I don’t know if it’s just me. They told me I have 30 days to return so if it doesn’t work out I wouldn’t recommend these skates at all and I will be returning them if they don’t work out. Will be responding in the next 2 weeks if there are any changes. I just wanna know if it’s just me or these new bauers are awful.

      @PancakePapiG 5 років тому +1

      I am keeping them. I know I had a lot of talk about these skates but I went through 8 public sessions already and after the 4th session they were getting better. I had the Bauer s 140’s and And the lacing is very different because I’m so used to tightening them so much on the 140’s and These S 29’s I don’t really need to do much of that. These are my first ever skates that has been baked and I noticed a huge difference. Putting on these s 29’s that have been baked is something that I needed to get used to from all of those public sessions. But other than that I’m definitely keeping them sure!

      Bought them aswell and im returning them. The memory foam has to break in i get it. But i get such a lace bite from that guard protector its insane i almost cant walk in my normal shoes. Its at the top lace, and skipping it down a ring doesnt help at all. I cant lean forward without it hurting. Have you experienced this???

    • @kennethdante
      @kennethdante 5 років тому

      I havent had skates on in 10-15 years! This tongue design doesnt help much...i think actually make lace bite worse. The tongue design on the 2Spro makes so much more sense to me..contoured to the curve of top foot.. this slab stuck on top of felt seems to transfer all the lace pressure right down in the worst way. :( Anyhow..i dont think i have the strength of will to endure hours of skating foot punishment to get them broken in. I have a lower arch and im not even sure that's a problem...maybe the memory foam cause they fit like a slipper until i attemp to lace them up in any fashon that will flex this boot. Maybe 200 degrees for 10 min? :) Worst is on the inside arch just in front of and below ankle. I dont really have a high volume foot (2.5 borderline) but I'm going to test fit Nexus before I decide to keep these. S29 are 10ee..trying nexus in 9.5ee and 9.5d. I wonder if the ccm Tacks bridge a gap between Supreme and Nexus?

    • @kennethdante
      @kennethdante 5 років тому +1

      update: 1 I'm adding this info cause I know I really sought out these testimonials from people in search of skate fits info. Ok. So the..Nexus N2700 9.5 D arrived today.. I know it's a step below the S29 but here's my initial take... The left skate fits very well.. great wrap and toebox near perfect. What I do notice is that the Nexus toe cap shape seems to be slightly less room towards tips of toes (more triangular and slightly less room in width than supreme 10ee. This isn't a great apples to apples comparison due to the half size step down but does help when thinking about dropping a half size when crossing from one line to another. I was curious if the half size down would be a sweet spot to negate any unwanted extra boot volume. For the most part this was true except my right foot is slightly more volume and I didn't reap those middle-grounds benefits from that foot. Wide part of fore width (behind toe cap was not as wide as the 10ee so my initial lace up left me with a numb foot.. that's nothing I want to mess with (I'm 42). SO to make them work I'd have to physically widen the right skate with a punch or something.. inside and outside or both. Even at a half size smaller both arches felt better than the supreme s29. NOt comfy but much better. Biggest improvement was no trace of lace bite when walking around and doing some aggressive staggering around on carpet with gards on. One big issue I ran into was trying to leave the lowers loose enough to not numb my right foot.. it wasn't tight enough to get my heel locked back so my right toes were too far fwd to make the 9.5 work. For them to be perfect id have to punch and be able to lock the skate on w the laces. Break-in would probably solve that issue by working the foam at the ankle and allowing a tighter heel fit. SO it was lack of lacing up tight enough that wouldn't allow the skate to fit properly on my right foot. My big toe (rt) was feeling too much of the toe cap as it angle in,.. not a brush on the front. That's a difference from the supreme seems to give you more toe room and nexus gives you more width behind the toes. Take away.. the Nexus 9D is not as wide as the supreme 10EE across the wide part of foot. (no big suprise) A good skate to try for me might be a 10D in Nexus or maybe a 9.5EE which I will test tomorrow. I have a suspicion that the 9.5D is too narrow for my right foot and the 9.5EE is going to feel too big for my left foot. I could be wrong. It might be great. I know the best route might be to adapt the right skate in 9.5D by punching but I'm not quite ready to concede on that yet. One myth I think I debunked for myself is that the Nexus line is made only for people with big fat feet. Not true. My left foot laces up great with no negative space and I have a normal heel and ankle.. just a lower arch and wider slightly flatter foot. There is room around the upper for wrap but the fact I don't get lace bite means I can crank on those laces and even use the top eyelet. That wasn't the case in the supreme s29 even a half size bigger. The tongue on the nexus n2700 seems slightly lower profile.. maybe a bit less protection but it is more comfortable. I'll have the s29 10EE, the nexus 9.5D, and the Nexus 9.5EE for direct comparison in the next day or so. These skates come with slippery laces.. I'm going to pick up a pair of waxed to have on hand to help with lacing up. I'd like to add, the 9.5D has a slightly shorter runner that really feels good under my foot. Wish I could make them work. Another thing... If I decide to use a footbed, there's no way I'll be able to do it in the s29. If I go with a Nexus in a 10 I'll probably have room.. The 9.5D nexus maybe not. The nexus arches aren't buttery actually slightly tight in both but haven't baked or broken in. Pardon me for making this my fit journal lol

      Hey there, they're both really comparable in terms of materials and performance, but I'd give the upper hand to the 9070's with the comfort pads on the collar as well as a vented outsole. It's a win-win either way you go! The S29 has a pretty solid tendon guard, I wouldn't worry about it.

      I had the similar issue.Bauer changed size pattern for the skates few years ago. I got used to 7D in Supreme skates when bought Bauer 8090 long time ago. All Supreme/Vapor skates from bauer( 2014-2017) seems almost a half size bigger. So i had to switch to 6.5 EE in Vapor X700 skates . However, 2018 Bauer Supreme skates models including Bauer Supreme S29 Skates went back to the previous sizing chart. I tried 2018 Bauer Supreme S29 skates three days ago from the local bauer dealer. It fits the same way as my old Bauer Supreme 8090 skates , which is very nice

      Hey John, you have plenty of options. For a first time skater, I would recommend either the Bauer NS or CCM Super Tacks 9350. These both offer excellent comfort and flexible support for the new skater. If they are new to playing but can already skate, something like the Bauer Supreme 3S or CCM Super Tacks 9380 would be the perfect choice.

      There are some places selling in between models. They're called the Ignite series. I just bought ones called Ignite Pros. It's a S29 boot with changes to the tongue, steel, and inside liner. IW should make a video about these because they exist at many price points. Grande 807 It's still early, as I've only used them a half dozen times, but they're still pretty stiff (even after baking them). My biggest emphasis would be to size them correctly. I came from an old skate, so I had to go down another half size to fit in modern sizing. Sadly, this also meant losing about an inch on the runner. Been throwing my center of gravity off since I tend to have a forward lean. Otherwise, comfy boot. Experiment with custom footbeds at your discretion.

    • @MKH-92
      @MKH-92 5 років тому

      Vapors are more narrow in the forefoot and they have a shallow heel as well. If you have a smaller or a more narrow forefoot, in step, heel and so on, vapors are good for you. Supremes are in between the Nexus and vapors (Nexus skates have a wide forefoot and deep heel. Those are made for people with wide feets). This means that supremes are made for people with a standard forefoot and standard heel. But it’s always best to try on some different skates in a store!
