Detmar is correct. inconsistent and long 6 to 8 day pitching rotation is very difficult for starting pitchers to adjust.
but, he needs to realize his mental is still weak to pitch and he needs to overcome. but, ohtani has no bearings on victory or defeat in any clubs anyway. Angels is weak, and Dodgers is strong with or without ohtani.
The fact that Ron threw Guillorme under the bus and failed to take responsibility for the call AND ALSO tripled down and said Romero was throwing strikes when he obviously was a bit wild is insane to me.
He must be on drugs or he’s going blind. Not only would that have been Ball 2, but Romero was wild and with the failed suicide squeeze, it’s Out 2 and the bunt can’t be attempted again (a bunt foul with 2 strikes is Strike 3).
Man, it’s only been a quarter of the season and I already miss Phil Nevin. JFC, I didn’t imagine I’d be saying that.

@@ThaddeusThompson-uv9jd I'm not sure if you meant it as sarcasm, but if you genuinely didn't know, it is called a squeeze play, where the runners on base takes off trusting that the batter will lay down a hit to the ground, usually a bunt. It is played with less than 2 outs, so that you'd score a run even if the batter gets thrown out at 1B. Very few team do this nowadays because of the hype of the long ball. The squeeze play, if executed properly, guarantees a run at the expense of an out. It is a somewhat less risky approach than to hope for a base hit which may turn into a double play.
It is unfortunate that the Angels are terrible with RISP and yet they couldn't make basic bunts when required. Yes it is true that the pitch was so wide of the strike zone that it is unhittable, but a good bunter would still be able to make contact even if it's a ball.

What even was that play in the 8th inning by the Angels? 💀 bunting with 2 strikes and then sending the runner as soon as the pitch left the pitchers hand? All with no outs before that play and the Cards almost turned a triple play... just wow lmao
there was only 1 strike on the batter when he attempted the bunt.

A squeeze play on a 1and 1 count. The hitter has to make contact as the base runner from 3rd is going full speed as soon as the pitcher releases the pitch. Very aggressive call and of course it blows up in the Angels face.

@@Doz899 Ture, but he was still clutch to get out of it as opposed to pretty much all of our relievers last year. Unfortunately, the offense has become even worse this year than the bullpen has gotten better (but that's another discussion).
