  • A modular HT system allows you to carry only the gear your need to accomplish your goal. I prefer this over approach over a HT Go Box or HT Go Bag. In the future, we will take a look at the HF ham radio go bag box.

    I’ve been intending to figure out how to charge my HTs from my Bienno. You saved me time and trial-and-error with this video. Thanks.👍🏼

      Be sure to check that the HT will take 12V direct. Some will and some won't.

    Thanks for sharing this. I've started carrying 2m and GMRS HTs with me pretty-much everywhere. We're in a severe wildfire risk area and I need a way to be in touch with people in my neighborhood if something happens while I'm out, even if it's just grocery shopping. A kit like you described (though my needs are much more basic) looks like a good way to go to keep things organized and easy to carry. I just used your link to order one of those EDC cases.

      Thanks. I am a big fan of the Maxpedition cases.

    Boafeng Tech have the large batteries for the UV5R family which have USB-C ports. They also have a charging cable for the older large UV5R batteries with a charger port to USB-A

    Kinda wish I'd managed to get my hands on those tiny Alinco HTs from around two decades ago. But two decades ago I was young and comparatively poor.

    I like how you put this together but I find a better solution without a laptop.

      It really depends on what I think I need for the day. No point dragging a laptop around that won't be used. 😀

    Love my D74's but I just checked the pricing on replacement batteries -$109!!! That's insane. Batteries America has thenm for $54, but still that's insane for a battery. I wish the D74/D75 was more ruggedized than they are (similar materials for hte case like the VX6).

    What pouch are you using. I can see on your Amazon list, but curious which one that is :)

      This one amzn.to/4dmAjmw (affiliate link) is the one shown in this video. Big fan of the Maxpedition pouches.

      @@KM4ACK Thank you! I actually have 3x of that exact pouch so wanted to check.
      Been a big fan of Maxpedition for years. In fact Im feeling really old as I realize that I think I bough my first one in 2004 :(

    Jason, saw your comment above about charging directly from 12V...where are you finding that info (specifically for a yaesu, but I'd be interested about other radios as well)? A quick check of the manual didn't yield anything... Would be super cool, but I'd rather not trial-and-error it!!

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  Місяць тому +2

      Look in the specs section of the manual. The FT5 manual for instance tells me that EXT DC Jack will take 10.5-16V for charging. The D75 has an imprint on the DC port cover that reads DC In 13.8. Please don't trial and error. No one wants to release the magic smoke 😜
