- In this episode of Texas Beard Adventures I show ya'll how to STOP blow by oil drips on a CUMMINS motor. This is by far the cheapest way to help keep the oil spots off your trailers and tailgate while towing.

12 valves are notorious for having oil dripping from the tappet cover tube, especially when you bump the timing from stock to increase power. Most have a catch canister that they drain every oil change, just a few ounces. Ive used the valve covers with built in blow by tubes to reduce crank pressure also, but they are expensive. Nice video btw!
a test can be done w an osciloscope to find out were is the blow by coming from, there are pressure transducers and in cylinder pressure transducers. to take the readings. new subscriber here .
Maybe check your play on the turbo. If the turbo is wore out exhaust gases can escape through the shaft bushing then down the turbo drain line, pressurizing the crank case
I would have never thought of that. Thanks
Those new valve covers actually take a thick rubber grommet / seal that fit tight in that recessed area. That’s what the case tractor 12v use. I’ve got them at Napa before
Awesome I’ll have to check them out! I’ve got a Napa close by my house. Thanks Nathan
i like the china pronuntiation, im from mexico lol. 😆😁
Lmao
Si Abla español vea 😂
do they do that kit for the 2nd generations 5.9 cummins?
I’m not sure Bud
Hey! I have zero blow by on my ‘93 12 valve but I like the idea of these to decrease case pressure. Would this be beneficial or alright to do on my truck. Just want your opinion and great idea btw!
100%…..good luck and thanks for watching
@@TexasBeardAdventures hey thank you brother keep them diesel vids coming!
It is kind of normal to lose a little bit of oil out the breather tube from The lifter cover it's alleviating Blow by doesn't matter the age or mileage of the Cummins engine I'm pretty sure they all do it a little bit
Cool 😎
Thanks Jake! Feel free to check out some of my other videos and thanks for watching.
@@TexasBeardAdventures I am humbled, my brother. GOS bless.
I have a 2003 dodge ram 3500 with 560 thousand miles on it. And a friend says it is diesel blow by. So I did a little bit of research. And when I said anything to this friend all he says is its the mileage. I don't know what to think. What exactly is it?? Can it be fixed?? Can you help me understand?
I’ve heard the same thing. Besides an engine rebuild I don’t think anything can be done. Maybe just maybe some thick Lucas oil could be used to help ring restoration….but I’m no expert on that. Thanks for watching.
The engine probably isnt broken in yet since the rebuild. Rings need time to seat. Drive it for 10k miles and it should get better. Let's see a video of how much blow by.
If your engine was just rebuilt , it would be good to put it though a break in period to let the Rings and everything else set it , Cummins says 10k pounds for a 1000miles . If you still have lots of blow by I would check vacuum lines and the vacuum pump . I’ve had a pump go bad and it make the blow by terrible
I’ve definitely put around 30k miles on the engine. I think the rings are set by now. I know I found a vacuum leak on the vacuum pump a while back and fixed it then. I should probably check it again. Where would the pump leak from……the gaskets?
@@TexasBeardAdventures as far as it leaking vacuum to the crank case I’m not sure I just replaced the unit and I bet it would be a internal issue and not a seal. But yoh can check easily by just capping the pump off from the system
Hey I just had a 98.5 motor put into a 2001. I have blow by coming from the blow by tube. But the oil cap when just set on top of oil cap hole it doesn't move. Why is that? I have a heavy lope and have to give it fuel on first start of the day and it smokes real bad for a few minutes then goes away. No lose of power either. I'm lost and stumped. My first diesel and second owner. Really really would like to save my baby.
Maybe the vacuum pump has a leak. Might need to replace or delete it.
Well I was hopping, but I have a 3rd Gen 5.9 Cummins. Thanks anyway
Don't leave me hanging make sure to let me know if this solved the oil blow by.
Since I’ve been running the 3 breathers that you saw in the beginning of the video the oil blow by has decreased by at least 90%.......I’ll keep you posted on how the back 2 cylinders affected it. Thanks for watching
@@TexasBeardAdventures how did the back to cylinders affect the blow by>?
It seemed to help
Hello sir nice video 💪
Thank you Mitchell
Did you replace your cylinder sleeves, because that’s where your problem probably is.
Yes
How is it running now brother
Good……I had to add some rubber washers to the bolt to help with oil covering the top of the valve cover.
All in all she’s running pretty dang good!
Thanks for watching 🤠
Oh and its probably not blow by. Fix your vacuum leaks. The vacuum pump dumps into the crank case.
How did you have this engine apart but you don't know that?
Deleted the vacuum pump and it cleared up thanks for watching
Change the vacuum pump I fixed my
12v problem blow by
I have often thought about that but never tried it. Once I fix my transmission I’ll give that a try.
If a course hone was used with the rebuild, it'll take 50,000 miles plus before it starts to break in. Ask me how I know. Rebuild shops who do a lot of gas engines make this mistake.
Appreciate it!
This set up doesn't help me.
Have 12 valve 8.3 with dpf system.
2022. Got real bad blowby that it affects turbo system.
On a brand new truck? They stopped making the 12 valve in the 90’s in any LITER configuration. Thanks for watching though 🤠
Also it's a 4x4 3500 quad cab dually. It's has the Ohio rust all the way around.
That is so excessive you only need two crank case breathers
No argument here, thanks for watching!
Never too much ccvs
Again no arguments here…… unfortunately for me I have a hard time judging when too much is enough. I’ve been like that my whole life! Thanks for watching Billy
Brodie you say two crank case breathers, is there sections between the covers? Would all crank case pressure go to say cyl2 valve cover or does it need it on say 2 and 4 or 1 and 3?
🤣 why does no one know what blow by actually is? You can't stop blow by (windage) you can only reduce it through precision design when building an engine. There is nothing you can do on the outside of an engine to "negate blow by".
All you are doing is catching the mess...
I’m in the process of removing my vacuum pump. My F350 doesn’t need it because it has an electric pump on the fender under the hood.
You are correct about catching the mess, I’m not solving any issues by install the breathers or the catch can on the blow by tubes.
I didn’t rebuild my motor by myself. I had a local company do it. It wasn’t until recently that I found out that my vacuum pump could be the cause of my issue.
Thanks for watching 😘
