I feel that's a bit of a misnomer. People will say that about bottle conditioning or natural carb. Cicerone teaches that there isn't a difference there... I do find proper levels of carb is super important for quality of a specific beer.
Great review man! By the way you describe the flavors and scents along with the details of the characteristics really show the experienced audience that you know your stuff!! Got a sub out of me, keep reviewing that sweet savior man calls beer! Until next time my friend!
I "remember" this beer from my early craft beer days. Could get a 16 ounce pour of it near my wife's college around 2006 for like $4...it was stupid dangerous. Another contender for the "beers that got me into craft" title.
Your palete is very specific and more complex than mine. I can understand the danger though. I'm feeling it right now after 1 12oz bottle. Great review 👏
Cheers!! Love the review! I personaly find this one a bit too malt forward for me. Can't get past the sweetness. Given it doesn't taste or hit like a 9.5percent, i chugged the can to get through it. Looks like I'm gonna garner a dope Golden Monkey story
Being a huge fan of Belgian Ales (especially Tripels), I would enjoy a "Battle Beers" from you of this style. I know that Coriander is used in Golden Monkey, but not sure of anything else. La Fin Du Monde and its "wheated" brother (and my preferred), Don De Dieu (Unibroue) are two other Tripel-Style ales that use spices. I have always surmised that the herbal/earthy notes you (and I) get in the flavor profile is courtesy of Victory's use of Whole Cone Hops. IMO, Whole Cones impart a unique and distinct flavor (even aroma) that define breweries like Sierra Nevada, Odell and Victory. As far as Tripels are concerned, Whole Cones are what I think separates Westmalle Tripel from the crowd. Cheers, Brent
I've heard that Westmalle is actually quite hoppy when fresh in Belgium. And one of my favs, Karmeliet is actually also an outlier with its use of spicing. Love your intense knowledge in comments, Brent!
I’m ashamed I like the flavor of this so much. I guess I’ve became such a beer snob that I’m a bit sheepish bringing home cans of beer with a freaky monkey on them. I like Chimay Blue, Gulden Draak, Delirium Red, Rochefort 10, Ommegang Abbey Ale, etc. But if all I could get was Golden Monkey, it wouldn’t be the end of the world from an enjoyment perspective. Thanks for the review!
@@dread550 it defiantly gave me crazy dreams from this beer for sure,in my dream i'm driving down a road and monkeys are coming at me from out of the back seat stabling we with plastic forks lol

@@RotomWash This review is spot on btw. Over the last year I've fallen in love with Golden Monkey and Victory's Sour Monkey which is the funky version of this beer.

Hey Darwin. A new found fan!!! Live in Pa. & have toured Victory as I live less than 30 mins. away. i love how he is so incapable of maintaining eye contact, that he even cant look at the camera! not a bad thing, just something i relate tooooo. not a tasty beer. until u realize it is 9.5%. id much rather drink this then 2 light beers.
@@DarwinsBeerReviews So what constitutes a serving? Is it ABV related? I typically drink 2 beers when I do drink however I prefer stronger beers usually 9percent and above.
Fun fact : Saying “beer can” in a British accent sounds like “bacon” in a Jamaican accent. You’re welcome.
Uh... Sure! That's one of the more interesting comments I've gotten!
And phone call in Australian sounds like fine coal
And if you say “khakis” it sounds like you’re saying “car keys” in a Boston accent lol
And if you say "Hoorah" with a dick in your mouth it sounds like "Hooah"
who asked? ....
Also, I've heard it around that the finer the bubbles, means a higher quality beer. Any thoughts on this?

That's very unsafe for a bar to do... I've heard those stories as well with bars selling cheap 16 oz. pours of this beer...

Throw on a sweater man! Either way, classic Belgian Tripel made in USA that I've drank quite a few of. Probably one of Victory's most solid.

Haha, true.
I don't see how 9.5 is considered dangerous when people literally make drinks with 5 different liquors
Well those are different things. I wouldn't compare beer with a Long Island.
Every time I get this beer it’s filtered. I could swear this used to be an unfiltered beer? 15 years ago.
Really? Why do you think it's changed? Appereance?
Only had two tonight. Fucking lit. Gave one to the wife she stop drinking her white claws. They are dangerous.

9.5% of 16 oz is les than 1.5 oz alcohol. Thats like one margarita or half a martini i wouldnt call it "stupid dangerously irresponsible".
Wait what? What's your math?
9.5% x 16oz =152
However, compare that to a liquor.
40% x 1.5oz = 60
Or a martini.
40% x 3oz = 120
So there you go....
