Nice to see Sam back in full swing can’t wait to get stuck in again. Congratulations on finishing the training and lovely to see enthusiasm to crack on with the work. Becca I do see your vision and think it will look beautiful with the roses growing around the moon door. Personally I would defo remove the old dead tree before you plant your new one, just don’t want to see it ruined and think it’s best to start with that gone. Can’t wait to see your progress through the week and hope you have a wonderful holiday ❤
I fully see your vision, Bekka! I know how quickly plants will grow and cover all the ratty corners. A very rewarding rose is white Iceberg. A suggestion? Chop down the dead tree BEFORE you plant the Willow. I speak from experience.
Congratulations Sam on completing your fire fighting training. I know from friends it is not for the faint hearted! What a lovely gesture Rebecca, to honour the Hunt & Percival families. 👏🏻👏🏻
Your such a likeable family, and I dont mind what the footage is. Because its always interesting to see other plans for the land. And to hear the bit of history on the house, I love that. And such a beautiful gesture to visit their graves ❤Have a great weekend guys x
Becky you are just amazing at using what you have on the homestead to make practical use of … What a brilliant idea with the roof sheeting … makes absolute perfect sense … and with the gravel and wood chipping it’s sure to make the veggie area stand out 👍👍 And as for the moon door … fantastic idea !!! … I can see it with the creeping roses .. what an entrance 👍. Great place for the planting of the weeping willow … another feature for your homestead 😊 Such a lovely gesture to honor past owners of the property … 😊 Sam you did a good job of organizing the shed ..👍. Onto the studs walls .. can’t wait. Durban SA🇿🇦
Another awesome vlog!! Sam - you are so very knowledgeable re building … anything! Plus you work fast & hard - you & Becky have a great vision of heat is going to make your home special & the grounds extraordinarily beautiful - even with vegetable patches - how exciting for you & your children….ha, as well as your amazing animal collection who are so lucky to be included in your family - I so enjoy your every vlog …. 🤗
Really enjoyed my visit to your wonderful homestead watching all your projects taking place and delighting in your enthusiasm ...even if I am curled up on the armchair with my heated throw 🥰
Delighted video, as usual and as I’ve previously mentioned, I love seeing little Benji waddling through the shot making one of his cameo appearances.❤️ Thank you Bec and Sam for my Saturday delight.
Hi guys from a hot and sunny South Africa. Please don't stop using stones for the raised beds! It's just so much better than logs, if woldvis what you are going to use. I know it's way easier and it's also easy for me to say this as I'm not doing the work, but stones are SO MUCH better looking and also retain heat better and last longer than most other materials. Either way, best vlog award goes to you...
The logs are to hold the wood chips in place ... I think they do intend to continue to with the stone. Unfortunately, she's been solo ... needs a legion of Roman soldiers for a day. It would get done right quick!
Wow, so much done this week! Rebecca, I knew you'd come up with a good idea for the pathways between your raised garden beds. It will be amazing. Your vision is indeed wonderful. So glad the woodchips are free! And the moon door is such a great idea. Roses do love to climb. Great to see Sam back and hear his good news about the electricity, plumbing, and windows in the works for the very near future. Sam, you did a great job of tidying up the barn. Can't wait to see you begin working with all that timber that just arrived. Hope you and the children have a great weekend. Give Nell a hug for me and tell Tilly and Toby I send them my best regards, the little rascals. Oh, I almost forgot about Otis. What a sweet character he was in this video. 😊💙
Thanks. They gave us them for free as we have spent a lot at that sawmill over the past year! 🤣 It's been a bit frustrating waiting for materials but onwards and upwards after Christmas. 🤞
Good video 👍When you get your raised beds filled with manure and other debris, sprinkle hydrated lime over them and then wet them down moderately and cover with black plastic film. Even in winter it will accelerate the break down and by spring you'll be surprised how close to plant able soil you'll have.
I think Sam is happy to be home. His firefighter training was good for him. Rebecca’s stone lined garden beds look very nice. That pile of stone is $$$. Another good episode.
Wonderful to be back to the full team again! Welcome back Sam we've missed you but so thrilled you enjoyed your training and you're now part of a vital wider community service as well! I'm sure Bec's couldn't wait to hand over your 'do list' and well done on all the sorting and ordering you've both done in the barn and raised garden. There's nothing more satisfying that having an ordered workshop and materials storing area, where you can lay your hands on tools and 'stuff' without having to deal with a 'hunt the thimble' type exercise. That galvanised sheeting sublayer for the pathways is an excellent idea....it'll stop the chip sinking into the mud too fast and, using the old beams as formwork not only prevents the chip from sliding off the edge but stops the chooks from scratching into the chips and sending it flying everywhere....they're VERY good at that! Your vision for your farm does your family, AND the families that have gone before you, proud - that's such a lovely, respectful idea putting some flowers on their final resting places and acknowledging the years of their lives they'd invested in that little piece of heaven. It might have been a tad frustrating waiting for your building supplies to arrive but you've achieved a huge amount with the unexpected time...well done you both. I loved how Toby and Tilly came over to give you a nuzzle at the end Bec....they love you too. Just a wee side note: You're very kind replying to postings but please don't feel pressured to do so - it's just a joy to be allowed to share in your wonderful adventure and to acknowledge and encourage your incredible work ethic....all of you. Thank you ❤❤❤❤
The garden area is coming along well and I'm glad you went with the wood chips. That will be perfect for walking and absorbing moisture. The ducks are about the only thing that you would want in your garden because they will eat all the slugs that will be trying to eat all your veg when it pops up 🙂
In Australia the usual name for a "moon door" is "moon gate". I fell in love with a moon gate set into a high brick wall. 🌳 Yes, it was a very grand country garden. 🌲
When I saw you hauling the tin over to the beds the thought that ran through my mind was, "keeping the feet out of the muck" 😄 Looking forward to the moon door all grown around and decorated!
Welcome home Sam!!! Good you had that timber wait so you could address Bec's concerns! Very smart laying the metal down as a stop gap for all the mud! The moon gate and roses will be so pretty! Lots of projects in the works what with windows, plumbing, electrical and the studs. Can't wait till next week to see what evolves! Love seeing Toby and Tilly, my dog watches for them, especially when they come face to face with us! And Nell, what an intelligent border collie, she has that "look", that "stare" about her. I trained my sheltie with these collies and even tried herding, but Alas! all the MUD!!!!! (and sheep SH - -!) Once back home, garage door down, strip off all clothes, carry dog into the shower, jump in also, we both had a scrub! It was just too much what with Nick's abundant coat, even our garage stunk! See you soon, Michigan is below zero with strong north winds and single digits! But typical fashion, next week it will get up to 40! Bring the shorts back out, ha! Hugs!
The beds look good. This is a time when you can put some winter veg in your gardens. Spinach, broccoli, kale, garlic, etc. Sam, I use old railroad ties to line my gardens. Mind you, I'm getting too old to pick up an end to move them. They weigh a ton! Becca, a friend of mine has metal sheeting and she spray painted them. Then she gave her kids samplers of paint and they painted flowers all over them! It's very 60's hippie looking, but kind of cute. You have far more tin than she did, but I'm passing it on. Nice to have you home Sam! You've been missed!
Hello my favourite Irish people 🏡🥰You are so nice to look at and hardworking, you are admirable. I was so touched when you told me about putting flowers on the grave,🌹it's so nice of you.🌹 Soon you will be up to 100,000 subscribers, that is also a milestone but I hope you grow even more. Have a nice weekend. 🏡💛💙🏡
Looking forward to seeing your stud work go up Sam…very practical idea about the chip bark etc Bec..the rock wall sound good too Sam…..always makes you feel good when you get to tidy up..eg..your barn..if the timber had arrived it may not have been done ..congratulations on finishing your fire fighters coarse Sam…it will really be totally different for you Sam..I won’t say “exciting” or anything like that as any type of fire can be deadly for all concerned ..Thankyou for sharing..love your videos 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Gooood morning from Austria to Ireland❤. Well using what you have is the most economic way, I Salut you for that. Besides it being very clever. We are so spoiled, being used to get everything done right away. You are clever🎉
You must be chuffed to have Sam back! I'd never heard of a moon door, so that's intriguing to see unfold. Just a quickie, do you think you will be doing another question and answer video in the near future? Last one was set out great btw ❤
Good to see your having fine weather for the filming , and all your family is okay , just a note on the mulch/ bark chippings, side of things ,One put this down many years ago but winter came it all blew away it was cheap then ,but to stop this put a thin plastic mesh over the top of it = you can walk on it okay but it does not blow away , just ideas is all , best of luck, to kill the ive that kills the trees cut its stem at the base of the tree take out about 3 cm = it will die off and it will not kill your willow tree when it gets growing , just a thought is all to help ,
Have you planted rhubarb yet. You might like to plant some in full sun area and shade area too. Why? Full sun rhubarb matures earlier and then goes dormant in full summer, while, shade grown rhubarb will provide summer and fall crop for cut and come again harvesting. Also, consider planting some asparagus for early spring harvest and later the ferns can be harvested for floral arrangements. The summer and fall appearance of asparagus makes a temporary, seasonal hedgerow that will grow 3 to 4 feet tall, then die back to ground for winter. Food and decorative planting can be found with asparagus... a perrenial.
I don't know if you've already mentioned this, because I am paranoid, please just check if there is any residual paint/sealant on that roofing and if it contains lead! You don't it to be in proximity to your beds if it contains lead
Hi Becky 😊. Nice to see another South African in the comment section 👍😃. Not surprising really. Your videos are so entertaining, interesting with beautiful scenery and I love all the animals. Chooks in particular. Can watch them for hours on end 🐓🐔🐤🐤🤗. Great to have Sam back from his fireman training 🧑🚒. He looks like he thoroughly enjoyed his time off and is raring to get back to his building again 👷📏🔨🪚🪛🪜😅 Take care..Many thanks for super viideo 👍👌❤️ See you next week 🤗
It's good to see that you reduced down to three lol, I was thinking about just how much work it would take to build what you first had in mind. Over years maybe more lol ❤️
You mentioned in an earlier video that you were concerned that the chicken wire fence around the raised beds would partly obscure your view from the house. I recently saw a UA-cam video where chicken wire was painted black and it became a lot less obtrusive, not quite invisible but certainly much less obvious to the eye. I suppose this might work for the moon door frame as well. Just a suggestion.
Things like this a a woman makes me so so happy . Wen a plan comes together. My dream is to visit this home sted one day . I live in Cape town South Africa. The Rand ses a lot 🎉❤ looking forward to the garden proses. PS I wood love to show you my stone hose we build 32 years ago. Boulders to rock to building stones . Took us 5 years to tjip the stone . Big Stone House white a cottage and a garage 3 buildings . My son's are still busy 😂
Good morning from New York. Productive progress indeed ! It's important to have a vision AND patience to bring it to fruition. Both of you have that gift and always a "plan B" when things don't always go to plan A 😉. Hope to hear your laundry chores return home soon, a real pity about that generator. So good to see Sam back and ready to dig into the inside construction. I'm sure that getting the barn back in order was quite the "day killer" ordeal but a necessary one and (I fully agree) having music is an absolute necessity to aid in getting it done ! Care to share your tunes list ? All the best to you and yours over the holidays. Crack on.
Quick thought, clematis are very nice climbers for your moon door and play well with other plants. I grew them with honeysuckle and the display was wonderful. Sam, are you a fireman now or not!
@melanieBlunt0y1q As a former landscaper, I agree that this would be a good step to take. When the dead standing tree either comes down on its own, or you take it down, it could easily damage or kill your lovely little willow sapling. If you have the time and the means at this point, it would keep your new tree a lot safer.
Excellent when a plan comes together, and timing for the 1st and 2nd fix perfect for the grant timing. Come next year the veg beds will give so much freedom away from the expense of the markets. I think once the veg is growing that you will some certain four legged animals very keen to try some fresh nibbles out so prepare for battles ahead with them 2 LOL. Sam, well I have been quiet for the past three weeks so ready for your call and queries, and get as much done pre xmas ready for the 2 week close down.
Thanks Joe. I'll bell you next week, helping campervibe fit some doors on there timber cabin tomorrow morning and getting a wheel bearing sorted on the car, been nice and busy here for the past few day, its great having all my equipment back in order ready for the next part of the project
"Winter Chores " Sam's returned from his training, no time for now for fun or explaining, There's work to be done. { Well maybe a little fun!!} {and explaining} Bec has thought of a clever plan, to line the garden paths with a metal pan. Made from the remnants of the old tin roof Their song will ring as you walk along, Notes to the memories of this property's song. In time will be covered by mulch and plants But now keep dry the footware in this Progress Dance. Sam ,next door in the barn ,he tackles, the hay and the straw, the tools and the shackles. Brings order to the space in done, Yes I think he makes it fun. Seeing what is and what it could be. Bec has a Vision or maybe three. A Moon Door framed in roses, Weeping willow to the waters edge You can see it .! Can't you? So can we. Trips to the Laundry and the country markets, Lay flowers at the graves of the previous owners. Winter Chores and kindly gestures, Come from the heart of a woman Who can see through a Moon Door at a land beyond Where animals speak with just there faces, in this refuge full of loving spaces.
Sam / Becks why the change to insulated lime plaster rather than stay with insulated drylining with mechanical air flow. It will be interesting to see which is most effective. I am curious to know what prompted the change of heart. Love the channel. Keep up the good work.
Best surkshark add i have seen well done (hate adds) whatched from the start keep it up take the adds it all helps love the eye dog as you would from NZ .
high guys firstly did sam pass his course he didnt say i can see why you put corragated lengths down as a base you can always take it up wnen you want to put proper paths down please dont put your tree on that sidei know you want a pond i would plant it in a container away from that tree it can only fall one way because the other way is the farmers field your tree can put an root growth for the next few months then you can put your pond where you like then when your ponds in you can plant your tree thats what id do mh
Would you not build a lean2 beside the stables for the straw n hay etc that you just roll it into well a similar to the stable rather than messing the barn n you tools

That bit of piano music is rapidly becoming your theme tune. I hope you are allowed to keep it.
Nice to see Sam back in full swing can’t wait to get stuck in again. Congratulations on finishing the training and lovely to see enthusiasm to crack on with the work. Becca I do see your vision and think it will look beautiful with the roses growing around the moon door.

Thought the same reagarding the tree
I second climbing Iceberg. It is also shade tolerant.
Yes, otherwise you have double/triple the effort with getting rid of that dead tree
Congratulations Sam on completing your fire fighting training. I know from friends it is not for the faint hearted!
What a lovely gesture Rebecca, to honour the Hunt & Percival families. 👏🏻👏🏻
You guys have become my favourite channel. Love to see what you're up to (and lots of sneak peeks at Otis).
So nice paying respect to previous owners of the cottage. I really enjoyed this video. Much love, and Merry Christmas from New Mexico USA🌵🇺🇲🥰🎄🎄🎄👍👍👍

I love love love how much all your animals show their love of you through their acts of sevice. ❤❤❤

17:58 : it looks just fine! Nothing is perfect in the beginning. It works for now.
I think Sam is happy to be home. His firefighter training was good for him.
Rebecca’s stone lined garden beds look very nice. That pile of stone is $$$.
Another good episode.

The trampoline circle is a brilliant idea it's like a dimension into another place.

I love a moon door, they are magical. The roses climbing on it will be fabulous.
Your garden is going to be so pretty 👍🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲
Make sure you plant the Willow far from your septic.
Welcome home...the family all together again...God bless and keep you all healthy and happy...
Danke!
Welcome home. Rebecca did a great job holding down the fort. Merry Christmas 🎄 to the family!
Lovely seeing you back Sam ,Bec's vision for the garden sounds absolutely fabulous.❤
Almost at the shortest day, so at least soon you'll have more daylight to work with.
Here's hoping we get a bit of a respite from the storms.
It's wonderful seeing you both again. Looking forward to next week when the woodwork begins. Good luck with everything! :)
Us too! Felt like we were on forced pause again this week with the house but we thankfully stayed productive.
Weather there looks cold but thankfully no rains. Happy holidays to your family. 👍👍👍
I see it as a wonderful garden in the making! A good hardy rose is Mutabilis. Grows quickly, very disease resistant, nice foliage.
Hi Rebecca and Sam enjoyed video, nice to see you using old tin, your homestead is comming on beautiful well done. kind regards Sean

That moon door is so cool.
My parents purchased their first home purely because it had a weeping willow in the garden.
They are beautiful trees.
Nice to see you back sam

Weeping Willows are huge water users. Hope you have lots of water.
It must be hard not having a lot of money on hand to follow through with dreams right away. But with time, all will work out fine.😊
Love how you make use off that old roofing such a great idea Becka welcome back Sam nice video

Something I found out by accident before all willow here was deemed a weed was dry willow nest fire starters.

Tin looks slippery! I am sure it works great for what you need.
The barn is your biggest task, apart from. Your home.
I'm just thinking with the rocks and the metal sheeting you are making a beautiful home for alot of slugs and snails lol but it will look great!
Happy christmas every one
Love the "Moon door" idea, however, forward thinking, how will you gate it to keep out the chickens?
"Winter Chores "
Sam's returned from his training,
no time for now for fun or explaining,
There's work to be done.
{ Well maybe a little fun!!} {and explaining}
Bec has thought of a clever plan,
to line the garden paths with a metal pan.
Made from the remnants of the old tin roof
Their song will ring as you walk along,
Notes to the memories of this property's song.
In time will be covered by mulch and plants
But now keep dry the footware in this Progress Dance.
Sam ,next door in the barn ,he tackles,
the hay and the straw, the tools and the shackles.
Brings order to the space in done,
Yes I think he makes it fun.
Seeing what is and what it could be.
Bec has a Vision or maybe three.
A Moon Door framed in roses,
Weeping willow to the waters edge
You can see it .! Can't you? So can we.
Trips to the Laundry and the country markets,
Lay flowers at the graves of the previous owners.
Winter Chores and kindly gestures,
Come from the heart of a woman
Who can see through a Moon Door
at a land beyond
Where animals speak with just there faces,
in this refuge full of loving spaces.
Sam / Becks why the change to insulated lime plaster rather than stay with insulated drylining with mechanical air flow. It will be interesting to see which is most effective. I am curious to know what prompted the change of heart. Love the channel. Keep up the good work.
It would be really neat to see a tour of the town you live in (or closest to).
😊😊
I love border collies, they are never off duty. Lol
Great video guys! I’m guessing you passed your course Sam? If you said, I missed it! Donkeys are looking fab, as are your beds. Love from Norfolk!
👍
Best surkshark add i have seen well done (hate adds) whatched from the start keep it up take the adds it all helps love the eye dog as you would from NZ .
Love the videos and look forward to the next one. Can you please play cheery music at the start not so sad 😊
high guys firstly did sam pass his course he didnt say i can see why you put corragated lengths down as a base you can always take it up wnen you want to put proper paths down please dont put your tree on that sidei know you want a pond i would plant it in a container away from that tree it can only fall one way because the other way is the farmers field your tree can put an root growth for the next few months then you can put your pond where you like then when your ponds in you can plant your tree thats what id do mh
I love your Metallica ring tone class 👍
Would you not build a lean2 beside the stables for the straw n hay etc that you just roll it into well a similar to the stable rather than messing the barn n you tools
Did you choose to have a tiled roof or was it chosen for you planning for instance?
You might regret leaving the tin down around your veg beds ... its the perfect hiding spot for slugs.
